It's funny, if you look at the bid history, ebay has had to cancel a lot of "joke" bids on the portrait.

I really want it. Maybe next year's portrait.

When the show comes back on Monday the guest that night is Barry Manilow. Should be awesome:lol:

Quake1028 10-25-06 11:52 PM

Why the off week?

slop101 10-26-06 12:10 AM

Since they don't have "seasons", per se, Daily Show and Colbert take about 8 separte weeks off a year. Think of it like year-round schools - instead of one long break a year, they take a few shorter ones.

Besides what slop101 mentioned, which is correct, I think they took this specific week off because The Daily Show is going to [Ohio] next week, so they're probably using this week for prep. The Colbert Report takes the same weeks off that The Daily Show does usually.

Edit: changed the state to the proper one.

pinata242 10-26-06 09:49 AM

Ohio, isn't it? Trying to get the youth voter turnout up in the "swing" state is my understanding.

Yep, my bad. I always get those states mixed up.

dick_grayson 10-26-06 10:07 AM

I imagine they'll be plenty of stuff to cover up to and after the election that this is probably the only time they'll be able to take off for a while.

Kal Varnsen 11-01-06 01:06 AM

Does anyone sell replicas of that Colbert poster?

Chew 11-01-06 07:05 AM

Manilow/Colbert duet gets a

Bronkster 11-09-06 10:29 PM

Another great duet last night with John Hall (I think!) and Stephen doing the National Anthem! I actually clapped.

I started singing along.

Its odd, I was one of these people who didn't get the joke. It took me a long time to warm up to Colbert's show, though it was quite funny I found the character quite annoying. I just couldn't figure out what the joke was. How could anyone find a character like that amusing.

THEN: I happen to catch for the first time O'Reilly on Fox. Nows its crystal clear that this is satire. Now that I get the joke, its really quite brilliant.

I'm insulated from the butt of the joke, living in Norway. I don't get the opportunity to see FOX all that often and had never watched a full Hannity or OReilley show.

I still prefer the Daily Show, for now anyway. Though I do miss This Week in God.

That was brilliant and an incredible arrangement.

I missed the manilow duet, I*ll have to look for it on youtube or something (unless its been removed).

I think seeing "The O'Reilly Factor" at least once is absolutely crucial to "getting" what Colbert is all about, because "The Colbert Report" is a direct spoof of that show.

(Of course, watching "The O'Reilly Factor" even once can be a rather painful ordeal... but it is worth it for the comedy gold that is Colbert.)

calhoun07 11-12-06 02:46 AM

Stephen Colbert said in his recent Rolling Stone interview that he got to meet Bill O'Reilly and O'Reilly told him that he watches the Colbert Report regularly and closely and loves it.

Anyone catch the Rock and Awe:Countdown to Guitarmagedon tonight? Great stuff. I didn't think he'd dedicate a whole show to the contest.

resinrats 12-20-06 11:30 PM

Didn't like the 'Shred-off'. If he could really play, that would be fine, but the cop-out having the other guy show up was just lame. He should admitted the Decemberists won the challenge other than that 2 second showing of their CD. I guess it worked out for the Decemberists though since the have gotten so much publicity out of this. I never heard of them before this.

slop101 12-21-06 12:55 AM

Morley Safer and Kissinger both made me laugh.

BTW, I've been playing guitar for almost 20 yaers now, and the Decemberists guitarist, though better than I thouhgt he'd be given his band's type of music, was a total hack.

You sure, bucko? The Decemberists aren't exactly shredders, but they are a fantastic band, and so far from "hacks" that it makes me question what you mean by "playing your guitar" for twenty years.

I don't understand how he could be better than you thought he would be and a total hack at the same time. Did you have some kind of prophecy that revealed how horrible of a guitar he was before hand? After you watch, were you so impressed that you elevated his status to hack? Just because they don't push guitar out front, doesn't in anyway reflect his abilities. They are first and formost a vocal driven band.
