2006 Emmy Nominations

Yes. I am extremely shocked by the Sopranos spot in Drama Series. The two (three time Emmy winning) leads aren't there...yet the show (which definitely was underwhelming compared to earlier seasons) is. And over The Shield, Rome, and SFU: three shows that had better seasons? Funny - The Sopranos is nominated in Drama. SFU wasn't. Conroy (best nomination of the morning) and Krause were nominated. Gandolfini and Falco weren't. They are hobgobbling HBO...

No love for Veronica, Gilmore, Everwood, Battlestar, The Shield and not enough for Rescue Me is another glaring oversight by the voters. Why can't these great shows catch a fucking break!?
I'm also stunned that the unfunny 2 and a half men beat out Entourage for comedy series, and all it's nominations in other categories are head scratchers...thinking of the people who missed out because Charlie Sheen got a nod is infuriating.
Glad that 24 did so well and especially Itzin and Smart's nominations...well deserved IMO. Not upset that finally the Desperate Housewives hype didn't carry it to a wealth of nominations...they finally judged it on it's merits and didn't find much to praise.
Well, it should be interesting, but next year I hope they can give these smaller shows a chance (assuming their new seasons are as good as I'm counting on).
MATT
and all the Deadwood fanatics can rest easy...if the third season keeps up the way it's been going, next year it's a LOCK for best Drama series and the acting emmy is McShane's to lose as far as I'm concerned.

Glad to see 24 get a lot of love this year. Looks like the creators finally figured out how to appeal to Emmy voters. Have an evil Republican President.
The Office better win Best Comedy Series. I love Arrested Development, but it had its weakest(and shortest) year IMO. The Office had maybe 2 mediocre episodes out of 22. And one of those was ordered by NBC at the last minute, so even that shouldn't count.
I was very impressed to see them snub Lost and Desperate Housewives. Both shows were widely regarded by fans as having a letdown second season, so it was refreshing to see the Emmys not reward them for high ratings or the quality of previous seasons.

Lost got a nomination for Live Together, Die Alone, the season finale, so I'm assuming that's the tape they sent in, not the premiere, or is there another loopy rule I missed? Or different tapes for different categories...
Best Actress - Comedy seems odd this year, maybe it's a setup so Jane K. can finally win one. Good to see Jamie Pressley get a nom, she's fantastic on the show. But honestly, who would have seen that coming a year ago?

Rich,
That was in the directing category. It (as well as writing) are voting on differently than the drama series. With writing and directing, a show submits chosen episodes in those categories. They are separate from the drama series category.

Grey’s Anatomy - "It’s the End Of The World, As We Know It (Part 1 & 2)"
Grey’s Anatomy - "Into You Like A Train"
Grey’s Anatomy - "Into You Like A Train"
I remember complaining about the Desperate Housewives all being nominated together too. I think there should be a "one nomination per show, per category" rule - spread the wealth a bit.
Big
to Jaime Pressley - she makes "Earl" for me.

Draven,
I can live with it, but:
Check this past category out (from the 94 Emmys):
Outstanding Individual Achievement in Writing in a Drama Series
Winner:
"NYPD Blue" (1993) - Ann Biderman (teleplay/story); ABC
For episode "Steroid Roy".
Other Nominees:
"NYPD Blue" (1993) - Burton Armus (teleplay); David Milch (story); ABC
For episode "Personal Foul".
"NYPD Blue" (1993) - Ted Mann (II) (teleplay/story); ABC
For episode "NYPD Lou".
"NYPD Blue" (1993) - David Milch (teleplay/story); Steven Bochco (story); ABC
For the pilot episode.
"NYPD Blue" (1993) - Gardner Stern (teleplay/story); ABC
For episode "Tempest In A C-Cup".
Television writing must have been in a rut that year...

Sorry to see Forest Whitaker also left out.
Of course, the Emmys mean little......unless they match my choices.

These Emmy nods aren't perfect, but they are damn sure better than they have been in recent history. I think it is a step in the right direction, and I am really happy for Gregory Itzin.

I kind of have to disagree, During season one yes, but I think in season 2..some of the others started to shine.

Personally, I'm upset about Lost's snub as I thought it only increased in quality this year. As for Desperate Housewives, though, it deserved to be snubbed.
My favorite nominations are easily Itziin & Smart for 24, as those were incredible performances that brought some excitement to the far-fetched but entertaining 24.

The Extras ep w/ Kate Winslet was freakin' hilarious. I hope she wins in addition to the writers.

Man, no Deadwood?!?!
I am a little disappointed that Lost didn't get nominated for Best Drama. There hasn't been a must see show for me in a long time before Lost came along.
j/k about Deadwood.

Maybe that is why her storyline ultimately didn't work. While the other villains on the show like Mrs. Huber and Edie camp it up, Mrs. Applewhite never was a fun character to hate.

That may be the most bizarre nomination.
Frankly, if you are talking comedy, I think Eva Longoria was the most deserving of any of them this season. She and Carlos were the best thing about the show this season.

I also find it weird that they just now got around to nominating Kevin James. And I'm surprised there wasn't anything given to Everybody Hates Chris considering all the buzz this year. Terry Crews arguably deserved a nod...but I'm happy Scrubs at least got some attention.
