What kind of sound does a magnet make? If I heard the sound of something powering up, a magnet would be pretty far down the list of things I would think of.
My other confusing moment was during next week's preview:

I see it used as a noun only for a totally different definition, but it's really just splitting hairs.

Hurley going berzerk on Sawyer made the entire ep worthwhile.
That and Henry saying that it sounded like a magnet powering up. The end w/ Locke and "Henry" was great - too bad Locke didn't shoot him while he was in there.

Has anyone else brought up the fact that this is another episode where the writers/producers of the show use another idea that came from the theories of internet geeks? Everything being in Hurley's mind was brought up like half-way thorugh the 1st season.

Enjoyed the ep quite a bit again. They were bordering the cheesy & funny line but I glad to see they didnt go over it. Sigh, only on dvdtalk is there 3 to 1 ratio of going off subject in a thread with elitist english experts.

Yep, I mentioned it on the first page. Was one of my favorite things about the episode.

Someone needs to come up with the theory that the Sawyer caused the plane to crash in an attempt at having a threesome with Kate and Anna Lucila. And he succeeds.

So I'm fine with this situation.

Actually, given what happened to Walt and Shannon, does that mean Ana Lucia's days are numbered?

But of course the real answer is it was just a spur of the moment thing, Libby was egging him on (she gave him the ranch dressing to dump out) and he wanted to impress her.

When Dave was listing all of the evidence pointing to Hurley being in a coma, did he allude to Hurley seeing Leonard (the mental patient with the numbers) in the hatch at some point? Did I hear that correctly? Was it during Hurley's dream sequence in the hatch? I forget.

Ok - here's my Kooky theory. I'm not a "losty internet geek" - I've missed many episodes and have no desire to go back and rent the other seasons, and someone else may have come up with this theory - but it goes something like this:
The Island somehow creates what you want - e.g., Hurley wants food, so then there's a mysterious crate of food, the druggie rock star guys wants Heroin - so it appears in a plane crash, everyone wants shelter - so they find a "hatch" - only there are "bad sides" to getting these things: Hurley goes crazy, rock star goes nuts, the "others" appear, etc...
Kinda like the Butterfly Effect. But better. Much better. And you're not going back to change your past - you're changing your present.
I'm sure there are other examples, too: Michael wants to be a "Hero Dad" - so Walt is kidnapped, Sawyer wants power - so he's able to steal the guns, etc...
Anyway - that's my little bit of over-analyzing and trying to probe the minds of the script writers.

Hey, you know what? I think it's actually a great joke on the writers' part. Hurley is the personification of the Lost fanboy, and Dave is trying to persuade him that it's not real and it's all in his head -- as in, stop obsessing about this show.
