I still don't get how the Others are so tough. They dragged off a bunch of scared tailies at night while they were sleeping. Ethan kidnapped a hobbit and preggers Claire. Eko and Ana Lucia have both killed them without guns.

There don't seem to be that many Others. And there are lots of guns in the hatch. Shouldn't be too hard to hunt them down and kill them all.

I was hoping that the Others would be shown as total badasses last night. But now they just seem to be better adapted to the island and maybe a bit stronger.

On a personal note, it was very cool to see that this episode, and the installment of "Invasion" that followed were helmed by Black directors, Eric Laneuville and Ernest Dickerson, repectively. I remember watching Eric L. on "Room 222" when I was a child, playing "Larry", a student with a MASSIVE afro. No racial flame throwing implied or intended, just very nice to see.

I immediately thought fondly of St. Elsewhere when his name showed onscreen... I hadn't realized (or I'd forgotten) that he was such a busy TV director.

Did Ana Lucia tell Jack what she did for a living in the flashback last season? Ana Lucia dodged the question when the clinical psychologist asked her.

Also, if they could squeeze in an appearance by Tom Cavanaugh, then we'd get an "Ed" trifecta on "Lost".

The Others on the boat had at least one gun and a bomb.

Assuming they're all the same "Others", I think this is what made me dislike last night's episode the most. There was so much setup between Danielle and the attack on Claire and Ethan being such a badass and the insane level of fear exhibited by the Tailies, but the payoff (at least for the Tailies) was really weak. For the past few episodes, these characters have been mad with fear, like they had experienced some unspeakable horror (torture, or cannibalism, or simply killing children or something), but the source of that fear came across much less scary than it was built up to be. Now I have a hard time buying the emotional response we've been seeing and likely will continue to see from the Tailies.

This is true. They are definitely well adapted to the island and have some weapons. From the tailer's terror I would have thought they would be more menacing. They are, at the very least, very effective.

Another thing that confused me was Danielle's saying that there are 2 ways to deal with them - run or die. But Eko and Ana Lucia didn't have much troubled dispatching them.

Quote: it looked to me like he was marking days as well. it didn't occur to me that he was marking days of silence though. i assumed he was keeping track of how many days they had been stranded.
it looks like 3 rows.
the bottom row almost looked like his name.

anyone else find it kind of ironic that the gun that actually killed Shannon was the one put into sawyers hands to "protect" the rafties? on top of that the gun bein originally with the main group, only to make its way to the tailies? wonder if (jack i think it was) he'll regret givin it to sawyer?

also glad to see the backstory of the tailies, i dont nearly despise them as much as i previously did, though Ana is still a pain in the ass.

so on the island somewhere we have Desmund, French chick, the main group, the tailies and 1 or 2 groups of others? think we'll find another group along the way?

another thing that hasnt been touched on again was the 2 skeletons jack found with the black and white rocks.

Can you be more specific when it occurs?

so what about the apparent vehicle that can be seen moving on the side of the mountain behind ana and one of them when they are talking near the top.

can be seen right in the middle as she says, "were did they get it?"

about 33.44minutes in, right after she says "shoes'

Just watched that scene - Ana and Goodwin are sitting down, sharing the knife- in slo-mo about 3 times, and I see nothing.

Is it in the 2-shot of Ana and Goodwin?

Are you watching it in HD? Maybe my nonHD DirecTV pic isn't sharp enough.

I'm sure the vehicle (if it's really there) isn't a clue. It's just something that accidentally ended up in the background and they didnt' catch it. Oahu's a busy, crowded island, it's amazing there hasn't been a car, plane, helicopter or something accidentally in the distant background before now.

Oh, I agree 100%. I just wanted to see it......

I could barely see the car in my non-HD recording, it's only there for a sec.

Wait...so Cindy is actually one of the the pilot staff? I never even noticed.

You should be abke to see it without HD if you look closely enough, as I just verified it on both my HD and SD recording. It's a silverish vehicle moving from right to left in the area of the screen between the two characters and approximately level with MRod's forehead. You can see it most clearly just before the scene switches from a shot of both of them to just the over-the-shoulder shot of Goodwin.

Oops. Guess they either didn't notice it or didn't care enough to reshoot the scene...

This is it, apparently. I didn't see it when i watched it.

probably easier to see on video, when it moves.

Quote: I think that 12thmonkey's theory on Eko's background is interesting, but here's how I see it:

Spoiler:
Eko was an african bushman who was converted by missionaries. Many missionary groups that I am familiar with like to take leaders from the peoples they convert and after they have a basic understanding of english and doctrine, put them in a new suit and fly them back to the US to go to seminary and become native clergy.

When the plane crashed, Eko's faith was still present, as we can see by him seeing prayer as the most helpful thing he could do for the crash victims. But after the Others started taking survivors and he was forced to kill two of them in self-defense, I think he lost his faith. Just like how in Firefly Mal lost his faith at the end of the Battle of Serenity Valley. He then "went native" again and stopped speaking because of his own inner turmoil and perhaps the reality of what happened finally hitting him. Possibly he also stopped speaking because of resentment to the westerners; if he did not convert and enter this new life he would not be in his current situation.

He is unable to turn his back on his fellow survivors and becomes the warrior and tracker of the group. When he finds out that Michael left in a (hopeless) search for Walt and that Jin is leaving to search for Michael, that breaks the turmoil that Eko found himself in and he starts to become himself again, even standing up to Ana Lucia to save Sawyer's life.

I think in the future that Eko will...

Spoiler:
Become a foil to Locke. They are the hunters/trackers for each group of survivors and each is a person who is a champion of faith. Locke's primitive faith in the island and Eko's newly regained and strengthened Christian faith. Perhaps Locke will become increasingly unhinged as he still sees himself as a "chosen one"(his mother implanting the belief that he is destined for greatness, his response to Desmond's question) and is unhappy with the explanations of the island phonemena being explained by the Dharma Initiative.

But that is just conjecture. Hopefully we won't have to wait too long to get the real answers.

I think Eko might be a minister. He landed wearing a black suit. He also looked longly at the Bible that was found in the bunker.
He was carving names or maybe Scripture in his club. (text of some kind)

I found this screen capture that showed Scripture being carved in the stick. http://lost-media.com/modules/copper...ays-cap216.jpg

I think we all can agree that there is something more to Eko.

My guess on wheat that is behind them. It is actualy a vehicle or something. They are filming in Hawaii, it is probably hard to control everything that apears in wide shots. They just didn't notice it and didn't editit out.

"Hey Dr. Mike, ten bucks if you let me break your neck from behind."

We have to get backstories on the tail section survivors, espcially Mr. Eko. He kicks almost as much ass as Locke.

yeah, it's definitely a car or something they didn't notice in editing.

Unless it's desmond in a race car!

Ethan also kicked the piss outta Jack IIRC.
