You're right. I guess I'm just confused how Ethan kicked the crap out of Jack and the Others killed that one dude on the shore ("they came from the sea"), but Ana Lucia and Eko didn't seem to have any trouble dispatching them. I guess I wanted them to be crazy-tough. Still very interesting to learn more about them though.

Well Eko I can see. He'd beat the fuck out of Jack, Charlie, and Sawyer all 3 with clubs in their hands. So him killing one or two with a rock the size of a football doesnt suprise me. Plus its not like they didnt get their licks in. His mouth was all bloody. But having AL kill one was a bigger stretch. But it looked to me like she might have killed a chick. So it balances out a little bit.

How do we know for certain that all of these "Others" are on the same side?

There's Ethan.
The people on the boat who took Walt. (Who, presumably, also took Alex.)
The people hauling away the tailies.

It's quite possible that the three interests aren't related to one another even though they're obsessed with snatching the children.

On the survivors' fear of the Others:

I'm 5'11", 195 lbs. I'm not a weakling by any means but I'm definitely not what you would call a menacing figure. However, if I snuck into your house undetected every night while you were sleeping and stole a member of your family YOU WOULD FEAR ME LIKE I WAS THE DEVIL HIMSELF. It doesn't matter that if all things being equal you could whoop my ass in a 1 on 1 fight. You probably won't get that chance because I'm moving around like a ninja most of the time.

So what Ana and Eko killed a few of them. They still got away with a huge number of survivors. Add to that the fact that these people are in an unfamiliar place God knows where, and these Others seem to know the terrain rather well.

Then just for shits and giggles remember you can hear them in the forest and not see hide nor hair.

I'm just saying I don't think they need to all fight like Bruce Lee to make it credible that our survivors would fear them.

As far as Ana killing 2 of them - she is an L.A. cop. All cops are trained in hand to hand combat to a certain degree, some more than others. She is to our knowledge the most trained fighter of all the survivors. Certainly more well trained than a band member, a pregnant woman and a doctor. There is no reason to believe these Others are Master Killer Shaolin Monks so the fact that a girl cop could hit another girl in the head with a rock and kill her is not a leap of the imagination for me.

When that white woman tallie said that 23 of them survived two episodes back and I only saw a handful, the first thing that popped into my mind was that they ate them to survive. I would have liked the idea of cannibalism than the stupid premise that the others wiped most of them out, what a defenseless bunch!

Spoiler:
Also, by the looks of the clothing the dead others wore (who attacked Echo), do you guys think they may be from that Dharma Project thing, since the guy Jack new also had similar clothes on?

I've read through most of the thread but not all so if this was already said disregard..

I remember reading someone saying that we first saw Ecko dry and on the island. That is not the case. He was in the water from the get go.

The major thing that bothered me was that they talked with Boone on day 41 and he died on day 41/42 and it is now only day 48. It sure seems like Boone has been dead longer then 6/7 days..

Another reason to fear the others: they have no clue how many of them there are. Although they may be able to defend themselves one-on-one, if they get surrounded by 50 of the others, they are SOL. It is the unknown that causes the fear.

How can you tell that's Scripture? I can't make it out at all.

It looks like it says "I WILL ..." and then below that "LORD ..." then an "E" or "F" something.

I've been thinking the same thing. The various Dharma stations could have splintered into their own little tribes. Very likely, if you ask me.

It makes a certain amount of sense that these abductions are driven by some sort of battle going on between different factions of "the others". They may be competing to bolster their numbers, or one faction might be looking for "good people" to perform some sort of experiment on while the other faction is so opposed to it that they're trying to play keep away.

I haven't seen this posted yet (if it has been posted I'm sorry)...

I saw this on another message board and I'm going to go ahead and give a SPOILER warning with this.

I was wondering if anybody else had thought of this... Boone died on day 42 and Hurley's lotto/the hatch numbers are 4 8 15 16 23 42. So I was wondering what happened on the other days of the numbers? (i.e. day 4, day 8, etc.) I have a feeling that some important events occured on those days.

Btw, TBird2340, I agree with you. It does feel like a lot longer since Boone died then just six days, but that could just be that's it been many many weeks for us since we saw it.

No real spoilers there, just some guy throwing out a theory and he only uses things from past episodes to do it. While he has some cool observations, I don't think his overall theory holds water. If our survivors were cryogenically frozen and then thawed years later to repopulate the earth, it seems the system would be intent on keeping all of them alive. Under his theory, the crash was staged in such a way that people immediately died (I'm thinking of the guy that got sucked into the engine). Seems like a pretty big hole in what he's suggesting.

Aren't we forgetting that there was a whole shipload of people with the Frenchwoman? They could have "gotten sick" and formed their own tribe and then there are the original others, the Dharma people. Plus the drug runners and descendents of the Black Rock boat.

This is precisely my own belief - that they are distinct sets of "Others" on the Island. Seems much more appropriate now that we've met Ethan and Goodwin and the hooded marauders.

Had a few questions:

Were the Others trying to drag Mr. Eko away, or did he catch them dragging others away and jumped in to stop them? I'm thinking that they weren't trying to take him since the list of paper had 9 people on it and they took 9 people, thus Eko would have been the 10th.

And I'm not sure why they are so scared of the Others. Heck, they've killed five already, though to be fair the Others haven't been in a killing mode (yet). Still though, send out Locke, Mr. Eko, Jin, Ana Lucia, and Sayid on a tracking / hunting expedition, I'm sure they would do OK.

He did the first time, but Jack had just rolled down a hill and hit his head on a rock. So he was dazed when Ethan jumped him.

The second time, before Charlie shot him, Jack kicked the shit out of Ethan.

People, it's TAILIES, not TALLIES. Apart from Eko, they're not all that tall.

There, I bitched about it.

I think they probably attacked Eko. Now what's REALLY strange is that Goodwin said they took the strongests first, but that would HAVE to include Eko and Ana.

Not necessarily. You can be strong in ways other than brawn and will. Who knows what qualities the Others are looking for.

Eko wasn't on the list of the 2nd round kidnappings because he was supposed to be in the 1st round.

Also, I expected people to get "sick" in this episode. When they first started asking Jin, Mike, and sawyer about the front-end survivors, weren't they surprised that nobody was "sick"?

Wasn't Libby the one asking that? Perhaps she said something she shouldn't have, as in she's an "Other" surprised the sickness didn't kill the rest of the front section types.

I still don't quite trust her, and have some doubts about her as an innocent survivor of Flight 815. But of course I have no basis other than she's a psychologist and appears too "nice". I know she was on the beach after the tail section hit, but I something about her raises my suspicious hackles.
