Regardless if Ana Lucia shot Shannon or not, the reason I don't like "M-Rod" is she just sticks out like a sore thumb from the rest of the cast. She's playing the same character from Fast and the Furious, S.W.A.T. and every other movie she's been in. The "tough girl you don't wanna mess with" type. And she really, really overplays it. Everyone else feels natural in their roles. Watching her, you KNOW she's acting.

I put the spoiler in just in case; but since it happened on the season premiere, it probabky isn't necessary. Thanks, though. I don't post often and don't want to be flamed.

Have you ever thought that maybe she is really like that since she is always cast in the same role??

As for Shannon being the one that died; I hated this. The episode seemed to be like, hey, let's write a story about killing the actress that was giving us problems. Translates to don't question the powers that be or your off the show. JJ has too much power.
This is the first I have heard of this. What kind of problems was she causing?

I had read that back in March/April she was asking for a short Hiatus to work on a movie (rumored to be Xmen 3, but probably not) and during the summer she asked for more screen time and more money. There were rumors that many of the cast had tried this and each one that asked, was then told agian that no character is safe anymore... From everything I have read, it was not her decision to leave; but the decision was made months ago that they needed her gone (not just for plot related reasons).

With an ensemble show like this, any character could be taken out and it wouldn't hurt too much.

If the decision to kill off Shannon was just made over the summer due to her demands, then that worries me. It worries me because then that would mean that there is no "greater plan" for the characters and the island, and the writers are just going from episode to episode.

Walt's the angel of death. Everyone he visits will die.

Shannon's always been something of a secondary character, and her role on the show has never been all that critical, imo. Hence, expendable. Ditto for Boone, at least he until he became Locke's sidekick.

My sense (or hope) is that the writer's have a solid sense of direction where the overall story will go. Perhaps it isn't important which characters are there at the end, but it's the hows and whys of how they got there.

With that said, in terms of expendability, I'm sure Jack, Kate, Locke and Sawyer are "safe" - Sayid, Michael, Jin, Sun are "pretty safe" - Claire, Charlie, baby Aaron, Hurley, Rose, Walt, Ana, Bernard, Mr. Eko, etc are "on the bubble" as potential body-bag fodder if the need arises for high drama.

Now I will revise my thinking...Ana was shooting at whoever was trying to kill Shannon.

Anyone grab this pic elsewhere? I get a bandwith error when trying to view.

No one has mentioned the rain. The monster comes after it rains. The monster shot Shannon.

Still doesn't seem like the kind of danger Walt is referring to. Whatever he is doing, it seems like an awful lot of effort for just that.

Also, what's REALLY strange, from my memory is that Walt walked away to the right (stage right) and Shannon came back from the LEFT.

Well, if her flashback shows that she was NOT a tough girl in her real life, then OVERPLAYING it would be PERFECT

Just to further everyone's suspicion that I think way too much about this stuff, what about this:

What if what we are seeing is NOT the same scene, but TWO DIFFERENT scenes, just half of each scence (or only one perspective). That is, two different scenes on different parts of the island cut together to play as one.

That would be very interesting. This comes from the "why is Ana holding the gun in her left hand when she is facing Sayid when she is clearly left handed" that the boards are abuzz about.

Here is what I think happened in the last moments of the episode.

- It rained

- Walt appeared warning Sayid and Shannon about monster

- Shannon ran after Walt

- Monster appeared and killed Shannon

- Ana Lu shot monster

- Monster ran off
