The worst part of it all is Chris Hansen. The guy has made like a character for these things. "I need to tell you something. I'm Chris Hansen." WTF!

I do like it how he asks the person a question about their drive or the weather or whatever as he jumps out from behind the curtain. That's the only good thing about the show. The rest is sad on both sides of the aisle, but that holier-than-thou name-dropping host makes it amusing. It's a brilliant idea since people are so scared and caught off guard, they'll tell him anything. Plus, I'm sure people think the police are about to pounce on him or are listening or something, so when they finally are told they can leave (i.e. being ambushed with 3 or so extra cameras) they run outside and are then face down on the pavement. What's also a bit fucked up is that most of the people are just lonely [weirdos] who have never had that type of attention or interest from a girl. Her age isn't always the factor. Don't get me wrong, the show does some good, I suppose, but at a shitty price for humanity.

CinemaNut 01-31-07 01:49 PM

So this why this shithole show is coming back..people are watching it.

not like they entrap anyone

these people find the decoys online and drive a long way to meet with them and in many cases they are married or in long term relationships. they are getting exactly what they deserve.

if they want someone younger than their SO or someone different then go make a porn movie, hire a hooker or hook up with some college girl. i used to know someone in the army and we used to joke that he was a womanizer because he would screw every new girl that came into the unit. he got out years ago and i caught him on a porn website by accident.

I think there is some truth in this, and it makes me wonder if the whole exercise is more grandstanding than actually getting dangerous predators off the streets. How much of the trap consists of the '13 year old' actively baiting the guy? Not to excuse what these guys have done, but it just seems like it does nothing to get the truly dangerous predators off the streets.

Rockmjd23 01-31-07 02:09 PM

Didn't they catch a guy with rope and ducktape in his truck? I think he was the only truly dangerous one.

It would be interesting to read the actual online chat transcripts. They only highlight the nasty things the guy says, I wonder what kind of things the fake girl says to egg him on.

Pistol Pete 01-31-07 02:34 PM

I think they entrapped Mr. "Can I rape you in the ass?". He was clearly just looking for friendship.

maybe if the decoy was pretending to be 17 years old, I'd have a little sympathy. But they're going to a strange house in search of what they believe to be a THIRTEEN YEAR OLD. That's f'n sick.

But sometimes Perverted Justice, when they are chatting online, portray themselves as 13 year olds who are sexually active and engage in sexual talk with the predators and although it still should be considered sick, it seems to border on entrapment. It would be best if they would just stick with the cover of being naive 13 old virgins because you know these guys get all sexually charged up when they start hearing the girls talking about going down on their boyfriends and such and are enticed by such talk into going over there.

entrapment? yikes!

Is it that unreasonable to expect adults to know that it's wrong to bang a CHILD?

I don't give a shit if a 13 year old is having threesomes and doing ATM, there is absolutely no reason for an adult to be going to meet someone of that age for sex.

orderandlaw 02-01-07 08:16 AM

Why do people enjoy watching this crap? I finally watched it and honestly thought it was the stupidest, most pointless, thing I have seen and a monument to just how disturbing our television culture can be.

I do have two questions:

- I was under the impression you had to sign a waiver to have your face shown TV. Did these people honestly sign away their privacy, or does no one care about their rights enough to offer the waiver? If the latter is true, I hope someone sues NBC.

- Going by police protocol, you aren't supposed to pull a gun on someone unless they make suspicious movements. Do the cops on this total testament to out rubber-necking culture pull their guns for only dramatic effect? (However, one could argue leaving the scene of a crime as a "suspicious movement." Which is perfectly valid as an argument.)

And one comment:

I hope someone punches that guy from Dateline on camera. I will die laughing.

CinemaNut 02-01-07 09:47 AM

When I seen the preview of the bad ass cops (sarcasm intended) pulling guns on a young dumb 22 year old for wanting to mack with a 13/14 year old (Though I dont condone this, its nowhere near how I feel when 30+ and over do this) I became more offended and angered at the cops then the dumb dude who thought with his lttle head instead of the big one.

Wasnt Elvis like 23 - 26 when he started a relationship with Priscilla at 14? Funny how he isnt judged as a perve..

jackepstein 02-01-07 10:04 AM

when is this going to be on again?

RoyalTea 02-01-07 10:05 AM

well, I think the most offensive aspect of the show is people who think that an adult going to a 13 year old's house is no big deal. So what if he's "only" 22 years old. If he's that desperate, scrounge up a little money and go to Nevada.

And what's wrong with the police drawing weapons? Is it that unreasonable to think that a person who has just been exposed on national tv as a pedophile might do something unpredictable?

Another thing also, what kind of chat rooms are these where they first meet the decoys?

I wouldn't find it too surprising to find a perv in a room such as

Home Alone and Horny

Flirty Flirts

or any of the numerous relationship type rooms on the net.

Why not go after the pervs in places where you wouldn't expect them such as a room geared towards Movies or Television? Someplace where the subject of sexuality wouldn't come up.

Norm de Plume 03-23-07 06:21 PM

Pathetic. Tomorrow night, the most American-ass-kissing and derivative of Canadian networks, CTV, is airing its own "To Catch a Predator"-style show on W-Five.

RoyalTea 07-18-07 02:20 PM

Chris Hansen goes to the Jersey shore tonight.

There is no way this cannot be entertaining.

Now when I see ads for these shows, it reminds me of this, which was obviously inspired by these shows:

Pedophile Gladiators.
