Even though it is wholly unacceptable for adult men to come and meet a 12 or 13 year old girl specifically for sex, I can almost feel sorry for some of these shlubs. In the blink of an eye, they're lives are ruined. And the lives of their wives and children, if any. Then I remember why. Screw 'em. That last guy in Ocean City was hilarious. "Can you give me a ride home?" Yeah, I don't think you'll need it. I was just in Ocean City a few weeks ago and think I may have driven by that house. Just to go to the beach, of course. :) If anyone comes to this forum looking for sexxxygoose6969, tell them I'm not here. |
Do they ever replay these? Or make them available online? I missed this one from the 18th. They are like a train wreck, I just can't stop watching.

I think there is some truth in this, and it makes me wonder if the whole exercise is more grandstanding than actually getting dangerous predators off the streets. How much of the trap consists of the '13 year old' actively baiting the guy? Not to excuse what these guys have done, but it just seems like it does nothing to get the truly dangerous predators off the streets. Deputy Dave - I think there is another episode on next Wednesday. |
Part 2 is on this upcoming Wednesday at 10 PM. I would imagine that Part 1 will be on MSNBC in a couple of weeks.

Yeah, I feel kinda bad for some of these people. Especially the ones that are just normal guys and did this for the first time. The internet is a strange world where people can take on an entirely new identity and live out their fantasies (regardless of how sick it is). These are people who have lost control of their own identities and fantasy crosses over into reality.
A lot of these guys aren't bad people. Just lonely people who made huge mistakes. I think the poster who said they should be executed is being harsh. Granted, there are very very sick people out there who need to be locked up (some are on this show) - but many of these guys just need counseling to conquer their demons/addictions. Especially in a culture where girls are learning at a younger and younger age to display their "sexuality". We are breeding pedophiles with the lack of control over our children. A thirteen year-old should not be wearing a thong. A thirteen year-old should not be wearing push-up bras. A thirteen year-old should not be watching MTV. I think there really should be more emphasis on this show towards parents and how they guard and raise their children. How many of you guys have had fantasies (thoughts) about a scantily clad Britney Spears or Lindsey Lohan before they were of legal age or before you even knew how old they were? You've got to wonder if that makes you a pedophile or just a man who noticed a hot girl showing off. Just to make myself clear - I'm NOT advocating this behavior, and definitely think this show is needed to keep our children safe. I think law enforcement agencies in all cities should have a similar program. But I think we also need to learn and understand what is causing this behavior before we so quickly vilify and judge. |
Appreciate the tempered comments, Shilex. Understanding, without excusing the actions, is key.
I personally think pedophiles should, under certain circumstances, be surgically castrated as an alternative to, say, a life sentence. Instead, serve ten years, have your nuts lopped off, and live the rest of your life without these unnatural desires. As barbaric as that sounds, it would give peace of mind to both society and to pedophiles who truly regret their compulsions. It would remove their ability to have real sexual relations, but that's better than the agony of self-hatred and the restrictions of prison. |

NBC sued after suicide during predator sting
From what I remember of this particular episode, the guy who committed suicide was also posing as a younger male, 19 to what he believed was a minor. They traced a cell phone call back to his name and he had a phony MySpace profile he was using as well. He was never lured to the house and may have been onto the sting since he deleted the MySpace account prior to police attempting his arrest. What I don't understand is if he was going to be arrested on felony or misdemeanor charges since he didn't actually show up at the house. Showing up at the house shows clear intent and thus raises it to a felony and that is the felony takedown we usually see (guns drawn) at the house after the person talks with Chris Hansen. |

Whatever happened to that doctor, an oncologist I think, who got busted last time around?

Interesting article in the San Francisco Chroicle which doesn't make NBC or the show look too good:

A close friend works on the show. I can't say more than that. And trust me, the show does not come across as good when he talks about it.

Esquire Magazine also had an article in the September issue about TCAP, and it also doesn't look good at all for NBC.

From what I recall, the police have been doing these kind of stings for many years before nbc came along and made this whole process into a circus. We've had enough episodes to make the public aware of the dangers of the internet. It's time for the studio to stop making the show and leave the police to do their work. I'm sure they'll handle things fine without nbcs involvement. It almost seems as if people are praising to catch a predator more than what the police do who should get more recognition!

http://www.esquire.com/features/predator0907 What a complete and total clusterfuck. As a former journalist, I would have walked off the job rather than continue to participate in this type of action. It makes me uncomfortable just knowing it went on. |
It was a nice read. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that the police rushing the suspect as they leave the house is way over the top. They even have some guys with camouflage leaves all over them. This isn't special forces.

The police do it to nab criminals. NBC does it to scare parents into controlling their children's online habits and to scare criminals into not engaging in these sorts of activities. So the police are reactive and NBC is proactive. Even if the criminals NBC catches are later not found guilty, I assure you that there were dozens (if not hundreds) of other criminals scared away from attempting this sort of activity and thousands of potential targets who lost chatroom privledges. |
