It sounded like what "does one snowman tell the other?" maybe. I wasn't sure.

It sounded like he thought he was being relieved and had to ask him the code. Loved how Locke did the 'of course I'm the guy you think I am'. Reminded me of Ghostbusters: If a diety asks if you're a God, say YES!

As soon as I saw Kate's point of view from the duct with the gun on Locke, I was thinking holy crap she's going to get shot.
something about one snowman to the other.

defimtely some type of countdown that resets, something.

Yeah, except Locke really believed it (or wanted to believe it). The look of disappointment when he realized he wasn't "him" was great. Subtle, but great.

I'm baffled that anyone can think this is the "worst" show on TV or that the hatch stuff was repetitive. It was awesome to have that scene approached with such a different viewpoint and set of knowledge. Great, great television.

It's pretty much an established pace for the show. And actually kind of why I like tuning in. It feels like it's going at a more or less natural flow for the characters, but to each their own.

Yeah, I'm pretty much just posting out of my arse tonight. I was expecting Rodriguez and company to showing up this episode as well.

How can you say that? We have no idea what they mean yet. I mean, it could turn out to be lame, of course, but as of now it's mysterious and interesting.
Just an opinion. It lost it's mystery to me since it's being used for everything. Medicine bottles, time clocks, coincidences, sums, execution codes, lotto numbers... Sure it could be something amazing, but I dunno, the show "not showing" stuff has never bothered me, since it all seemed to develop at a proper pace to me (mystify something, then demystify it at a realistic rate), but they're just playing em up a little too much.

Also, noticed Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje is getting a "Guest Starring..." credit. (as well as his first appearance in tonights ep.. at least, I think that was him.)

Completely agree, other than the Shark thing there was nothing else too great in this episode IMO.

Could've and should've condensed it all into last week's ep or made it a 2 hour season premiere since we essentially got nowhere with the hatch.

I don't mind the building per say. I mind when said building is made up of stuff we've already seen and/or long sequences of two guys arguing on a pile of wood.

Writer's joke? As someone mentioned dangling the carrot on the end of the stick?

Just before Sawyer swims for the pontoon there's an underwater shot of Sawyer in the water and the shark swims by the camera's pov. The symbol is close to the tail of the shark.

I don't recall the show ever backtracking in time and covering the same material before. This was a first, and hopefully it won't become standard.

Rodriguez and company seemed to show up at the end.

Some Walt's mom speculation:

Spoiler:
Not really a spolier, but I thought I'd block it so people who don't want to speculations either. Don't know if this has been speculated before... I had a thought regarding Walt's mom, since it's always bugged me how she seemed to have a decent relationship with Michael pre-Walt, but as soon as Walt was on the way, she ended the relationship and did everything to get Walt away. Although I don't think we've seen the exact moment this happens in flashback. My speculation is, could Walt's mom be like Desmond - someone involved with the Island. Maybe her job was to have a baby with Michael (because they knew in some way the child of Michael would be special) and then eventually make her way back to the island when Walt was old enough. She did eventually end up in Australia. Her death might have been cause she got "sick" as in island "sick"... or hell have we even had in your face proof that she's dead. With this show I wouldn't be surprised if she showed up on the island too.

It's possible, but some minor casting spoilers from before have me thinking otherwise.

The season premiere should have been a 90 minute episode, they had numerous characters to cover (catch up with), so the backtracking wasn't a big surprise. That said, I doubt it'll be the norm, but it worked, imo, in this situation.

I thought maybe Kate was going to eat a lot of food and be too bloated to fit in the vent.

Agreed. The Sawyer/Michael bickering was also forced and rang very hollow. "Get off my raft!" Right. I love the show, but this was filler, which is pretty disappointing when we're only on the 2nd episode.

I'm 99% sure it's "Dharma". I can't remember what shot exactly or what the logo was on (food? shirt?) but there was one shot where the name could be read very clearly.
