i spent 3 minutes on tv.com and noticed something that i found ofensive. i went to the Firefly section, and found that tv.com only offers the episodes in the order that they were originally aired. the link that redirects you to the page listing the episodes in the order they were originally intended was disabled. to those who dont know Firefly's history, let's just say that the series pilot was aired after the show was cancelled. that should give you an idea of why original airing and intentional airing should both be listed. tv.com is a complete an total failure for this series.

I recently went to TVTome and was redirected to TV.com - Whoa! I didn't know anything about the change. Not a fan so far.
I immediately thought of allmusic when I played around with the new TV.com. I wasn't a happy camper when AMG was needlessly redesigned. Both are similar in that you now have to jump through a lot of hoops to get to the info that previously was easy to get to. Still, I visit allmusic frequently.

I think it's a mixed bag. It isn't as convenient to pop onto TV.com when I have a question, but I remember plenty of times when TVTome just wasn't available or crawled for me. I like the "my shows" feature somebody else pointed out, too.
Maybe this is just the start and the site will eventually be as usable as TVTome was when it was working right while adding features.

tv.com SUCKS
tvtome was about people who enjoyed tv. cnet is about making money. that's all there is to it. I did go on tvtome a few days before cnet took it over completely and the main editor there said that cnet wasn't responding to any of their ideas positively and that cnet was doing it's own thing. So the majority of the great editors and contributors of tvtome will NOT be at the new site - they had a falling out.
I really appreciated all the work they did to bring us tvtome.com - and screw cnet for ruining something that was fantastic just to cater to the ritalin / britney spears generation.

They should have learned from Amazon and IMDB. Amazon let IMDB run independently for the most part after the takeover, and IMDB continues to grow. Heck, CNet's own GameFaqs still runs mostly independent of Gamespot from the look of things. I'm dreading the fact that they will likely revamp GameFaqs with tons of graphics and mandatory login someday.

One of the features I liked on tvtome is that they listed all the new episodes that were airing that night. I can't find a listing on tv.com. Is there any other web site that does this? All the other tv sites just have a small list of what they like for that day.

For anyone who wishes to make a complaint about the site, you can send an email to [email protected] (it took me about 10 minutes to find the Contacts page).

Ankarino,
You probably don’t give a damn about this email, but I am absolutly disgusted with what has been done to www.tvtome.com. The site is unbelievably hard to navigate around, tv series are hard to find, and when you do eventually find the series you are after, you get posted to a page that contains the episode spoiler.
I am not against www.tvtome.com being bought out by another company, but at least the old site was managable. TV series were easily found, and you had an opportunity to view the spoiler IF YOU WANTED TO.
I was constantly using TV Tome for information on when my favourite tv shows were going to be screened, now, I'm left with a conundrum. "Do I go to the TV.Com site, knowing that when I do eventually find my TV Show, I am going to be taken to a spoiler site, or do I find another web site that will help?"
I'm left in a rather confused state of mind as to who the site designer was. Whoever they are, they should be shot. As a web developer, your site is as user unfriendly as can get.
a) There is an extremely large amount of wasted space on a nice pretty pie chart, but what use does this give the average person.
(BTW, how many people actually vote on shows compared to the number of people who visit them?).
2) If all you are after is the episode list, you have to either
i) Scroll down the entire page
ii) After find the episode, you have to select the episode summary to get to the episode list (this should be in the reverse order - you select the episode list, then select the summary of the particular show you wanted)
If you want to know of the dis-satifaction of users of TVTome, just go to the forum http://www.dvdtalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=426945.
Here you will find many people who are extremely unhappy with the new site.
Regards,
John

I've used the site a few times this past week and damn it is slow. I have broadband and it still is slow to load.
I can't stand it. Anyone know of a better site out there, because tv.com is garbage.

TV.com is easier to remember, that's why the site moved there. Other than that, yes, it sucks. Sucks HARD. Worse than sucks. I don't use such language.
I registered there of course, but have only posted twice.
It's already been said, but I agree that I don't care if the site was bought by someone else. I care that the site has changed so much.
Firefly is not the only show that suffers the fate of messing up the airdates order.

I have started something like tvtome.com alot of the info was taken from tvtome.com i was in the middle of grabbing the info when it shut down. was hoping to get it all before it did. it is still in the works but hoping to get it going good and somewhat like tvtome was. and what tv.com isn't. But i need people to look at the site and complain and suggest and all that jazz. so i know what the best and most preferred way is. I was hoping to grab more info from google's cache but that failed the cache is already falling away. so please take a look at the site and yell at me if need be. suggest changes anything you think would improve the site. i am still missing some ep guides and some are empty or missing information but its in the works and i think is comming along somewhat nicely the looks leave something to be desired somewhat but i suck at graphic's and i'm still coding parts of the system ok alot of the system which makes now the best time to complain and make suggestions
wow i'm bright i just noticed i almost forgot to post the url duh its been a long day.

tv episode alternative
I spent an hour searching for new alternatives to tv.com
This is about all i came up with: http://www.episodelist.com/site/
It doesn't have as many episodes as tvtome, but that could come with time.
It's fast, ads lite, text/content oriented and does have some in-depth information on the shows listed. The site also seems to keep up with tv news regularily.
I too am pissed with what they did with TVTome. What a waste of time. They may never get it; what was so appealing about TVTome was the writers that kept everything up-to-date (and contributors, which i doubt they will find so much of now) and the speed you could get at the information & just having so much information right there.
Here's to hoping something else pops up that can fill the void, because TV.com is off limits to me regardless of what info they may have that I want.
I don't know what content CNet (TV.com) now owns, but most of that content was added from hard working contributors to TVTome.com
I remind people much of the old content is still available from the internet archive.org - here's an example of some archived info: http://web.archive.org/web/200402141...m/StargateSG1/

I used to love the old tv tome for quick and easy to bavigate episode summaries and light trivia, now the site is borderline unusable. Nothing but fluff and ads galore. Horrible, horrible site. Now I use www.epguides.com whenever possible. All in all, a very sad transition. RIP TV Tome.
At least we still have imdb.
