1. Archie Bunker - All in the Family
2. Al Swearengen - Deadwood
3. Tony Soprano - The Sopranos
4. Cosmo Kramer - Seinfeld

it's so hard to pick only 5 from all the shows i've seen throughout the years. The above mentioned characters were just the first that entered my mind. I can't help but also think of the entire casts of M*A*S*H, Friends, and Seinfeld. Then i think back to Crockett & Tubbs from Miami Vice, Sam Beckett from Quantum Leap, all of the Brady Bunch, etc. Geez, for me this list can go on forever.

1) Jack Bauer-The ultimate in Cool!!!!! (24)

2) Basil Fawlty- The funniest thing ever on TV(Fawlty Towers)

3) Captain Kirk- Need I say more (Star Trek)

4) Homer Simpson- MMMM BEER (The Simpsons)

5) Gordon Shumway-Hey Willie, remember that car you had, err have? (ALF)

Without question, George Costanza is the most brilliantly conceived (and executed IMO) television character EVER.
