"So THIS is what my kids think of me when I'm not around!"
I also loved George Michael's exchange with Ann:
"George Michael! I thought you said you couldn't come to church because you were working! And now you're doing neither!"
"Oh, we're just having some fun."
"I think prayer and studying are fun. I thought you did, too."
"Oh, yeah, I enjoy not having fun. I mean, your idea of fun. Not having it."
"Well, she just killed my buzz."
Also, when Lucille cut off George Sr., I could tell it was him shouting at her before they even cut to the gag.

And I find myself extremely underwhelmed. Maybe it's just you have to have watched more than a few episodes to get all the humor but it all seemed very forced. Lots of silly puns, obvious humor and general insanity that didn't do a lot for me. It seemed like a live action Simpson's episode... but one with too many minor characters and subplots and definitely from a recent season. I wasn't all that confused, it just wasn't anything like what I was expecting.
There were a few hysterical jokes ("Don't salute him like that idiot at the gate", "I do.", etc.) but for the most part is mildly amusing at best and rather predictable at it's worst. Is the consensus that these episodes were better than average or did I just luck out and get some stinkers in an otherwise stellar season. I feel like the TV Talk forum has let me down

This is likely why the ratings are awful, many of the jokes require you to watch it on a weekly basis. There's no way you would find any of the "Anne" jokes funny when you don't know who she is, why Michael reacts to her that way or why George Michael likes her.

I missed that while watching this. Anyone have a screen capture?

Also enjoyed when Buster went to give Oscar a massage.
The whole Ann thing is a riot. Nice to see them sticking with the Maebe being a director/producer bit instead of just dropping it.

I didn't feel it too much for these 2 episodes. Don't know if it was the long layoff but I can see how AD can turn off new viewers. I definitely did not like seeing the two eps back to back and have to sit through a recap of something which just ran. All I could think of was that was wasted time that could have been used for new scenes.
It also was not a good sign that fox did nothing to promote marie-louis dreyfuss. I know her stock isn't very high but could not help compare her initial appearance which was advertised left and right. I had no idea she was back until the episodes.
I don't know why but seems the plots are going to unbelievable extremes. I didn't have that feeling in the first season and much of the second ...but lately it seems more forced.

It's always interesting to see the various reactions and opinions here, and how what strikes some as funny/great is 'meh' to others. But, that's what makes us individuals! That said, I felt the first of the two episodes was, by far, the better, with the second seeming a bit more forced. But as others have said before me (almost every week), a 'bad' episode of A.D. is still better than the best of almost any other show.
So, will the issue of Buster's hand be resolved in a future episode, or will it be glazed over like the numerous near-fatal injuries that GOB has endured over the run of the show? Hmm! And what do the numbers on the hatch really mean?? Oops.. wrong show ...!

Actually the first time I was fairly disappointed in a new AD, but my standards are so high for them, it's still the best television I've seen in three weeks.

"I think I'm responsible for Buster losing his hand by letting loose a seal after giving it a taste for mammal blood."
"Okay, that's more plausible than mom's theory."

also, in the first ep, when Michael and George Sr. are in the attic talking about Buster going to Iraq, George Sr. says something like 'i'll never be able to touch that hand again', as you hear what sounds like 'jaws' in the background..

Whoh, tough audience. I laughed my ass off when I watched them tonight. Loved how Buster ignored the warning "Loose Seal!".
Was the white gay cop a regular on "Whose Line"? He seemed real familiar to me. Henry Winkler was hilarious as always. "You were warned about touching" "You said spanking, your honor". Great stuff.

Not sure if it means anything, but I guess Fox removed the "Special Message" about Arrested Development not being cancelled from the website. Again, it may just be that the message had run its course. Or not.

That's hilarious!! I completely missed that "warning!" One of the things I love about this show, and why I will continue to buy any DVD that comes out, is the repeat viewing factor. I love all the little jokes that are missed until rewatching episodes. Did anyone notice blue handprints in the house this ep? I didn't see any, but there's been one or two every episode this season that I've seen...
AD never disappoints me.
