i'm pretty sure the french woman heard the numbers, crashed on the island AND changed the broadcast 16 years ago as well. remember when the survivors first hear the distress call in french? it was determined to have started 16 years ago.

Methinks that the combination of the Hummer, a lady blindfolded with a red bandana in the seat next to him and the ritzy neighborhood eluded to that.
Great episode.

Either Hurley's luck with money has changed due to the island i.e. before, he doubled his lottery money in one month or Walt has magical powers

Did anyone notice, they opened with a shot of the hatch, instead of someone's eyeball. Could the hatch be the island's eye?
Also, they showed Hurley in Australia, but they still haven't shown him on the plane. I was expecting a flashback to the plane.

I wonder if Walt is Hurley's opposite and that's why he's immune to Hurley's bad luck auora.
I think those location coordinates that place it between AU and US sound pretty close to what it could be.

Looks like it's in Micronesia somewhere. Funny..that's where the latest season of Survivor is. The islands in these areas saw a lot of action during the Pacific War. I'm thinking that this device, base, hatch, etc., is related to the war. Maybe it was some sort of experimental device that was to lure ships and planes into the island and cause the stranded people to become delsuional.

one question I have about the numbers etched onto the "buried hatch?" is whether they are machined (as in some serial number for a piece of hardware, etc.) or hand carved. They looked kind of uneven and non-uniform, but still pretty neat for someone etching them in by hand.
