I like comic books as well as the next guy, but you're telling me...
..at the bottom of the Island's batcave is a probability-generator? Yeesh.

When Hurley went to meet the woman in Australia, did she refer to him as "Mr. Reyes?" Isn't that his real name? I thought maybe it was a mistake. Or am I hearing things (perhaps I'm going crazy myself)?
I swore I heard that and couldn't figure out what the hell was going on for a second. I'll have to go back to the tape to find out.

So the best move is to just chill on the island and let other risk their lives.

Has anyone noticed that if you assume the number sequence of:
4 8 15 16 24 42
is in base 16 instead of base 10, the sequence is actually (translated into base 10):
4 8 21 22 36 66
and I think we all know what that signifies ...
OK, I got nothing. I converted that sequence into every base from 9 through 50, and no patterns jumped out. Now if someone else wants to run it the other way -- assume the sequence is already in base 10 and convert it to other bases -- I'd be interested in seeing the results. For example, in Base 2, the sequence is:
100, 1000, 1111, 10000, 11000, 101010
In base 3, it's
11, 22, 120, 121, 210, 1120
If we don't see any patterns that way, there's always "Assume it's in base X and needs to be converted to base Y, and neither X nor Y is 10."

In regards to what it means, I have no idea.

The numbers could be a the numbers of the "Science Station" (or whatever it is), maybe the station was in distress (something went wrong or malfunctioned) and needed help. What if there are more stations around the world with different numbers.
Timeline:
16 years ago: Numbers started transmitting & heard by the 2 men in the South Pacific
14 years ago: French woman's boat hears the numbers and get shipped wreck on island
14 years ago: French woman changes numbers to a destress call
1 Year ago: Numbers are used by Hurley to buy lotto ticket
about 6 weeks ago plane crashes on island
Did anyone else catch any more timelines?

ABC's "Lost," 11.3/18, claimed its usual spot at the front of the pack at 8 p.m. NBC got a solid 7.9/12 from a "Dateline" special featuring an interview with Scott Peterson's sister. CBS was third with "60 Minutes," 5.4/8, which beat two episodes of "That '70s Show" on FOX. "America's Next Top Model" returned to UPN with a 3.4/5, beating The WB's "Smallville."

Claire better have that baby soon, she was 8 months or so when they crashed and they've been there over a month now. You'd think all the stress from everything would cause her to go into labor earlier rather than later.

The logical explanation could be that it's a distress signal with a location? The lat/long of 4 8' 15", 16 23' 42" is a location NE of Australia which could possibly be where they are. Maybe this metal object was inscribed with it's location and the people who placed it on the island ended up lost/stranded as well and tried to signal for help using what info they had of their location? Or it's a serial number of this metal object of which there may be many around the world and hope someone recognizes what secret project it is and hope someone would come to their rescue?
