they really need to dig up an epic villian that superboy fought in the comics for the big bad for this season
We don't want too many FOTW but one big cool villian other than the luthors

They really can't bring up a Villians without breaking the whole no tights/no flight rule since they would know they are fighting clark and not superman.
What they should do is bring in the legion of superheros. That would really fuck things up.

I'm glad you all think covering a topic once should be enough for a show, especially if it has a 7 year run.
And I bet anybody on this thread that if I go back through it and write down everybody who said "we've already done this football thing - stupid", I'll see them pop up later tonight or tomorrow on this weeks thread even though it has football as a central theme....
Also, I'm not sure where all of this "big bad" stuff is coming from. Smallville most certainly is not Buffy or Angel. I don't think I would ever say there has been a big bad. Closest thing may be Jor-El. Sure, they have overarching storylines, but I wouldn't say big bad.

Dude - you don't have to defend this show every day. There is plenty of stupid shit just about every episode. We like to make fun of it and bitch about it. Get over it. Relax. Drink a cold beer. Watch more Eddie and Fiona.

I was pissed at your post until I got to Eddie and Fiona.
Believe me, I know this show is not the greatest thing since sliced bread. It's just that somehow in this day and age (of umpteen million shows on tv) that if a show is not as good as the top 10 then it just plain sucks. It gets very frustrating to continually hear people knock on shows and keep watching them even though they know they are in for more of the same. Sure the kryptonite solutions and explanations are overused, but don't you think the writers would have come up with something else by now if they were going to?

The thing about Smallville is it's a show about SUPERMAN, and so, much like the upcoming movie, it has a built-in audience. I would bet 7 out of 10 people here would NOT be watching Smallville if it had no Superman connection - for example, if it was just about some kid from another planet with special powers.
Also, I think people get frustrated with Smallville because, considering it's a show about Superman featuring 2 actors who can believably pull off their characters, the show should/could be a LOT better. Most shows that go off the rails get forgotten or ignored, but going off the rails on a Superman show merits complaining.

Yep. It is the same deal with Enterprise as a show in the Star Trek Universe.

I have been catching up on Smallville because I've been Tivo-ing Lost and That 70's Show instead so I'm sure some of this has been discussed before.
I like Lana with Teague. They seem to be pretty healthy with one another and she has been frustrated with Clark for so long I'm glad to see her in something a little more normal. I have a feeling they might do something evil with him though, especially in light of the info from his introduction to Lex.
And I LOVE Lois. I'm just sorry she probably won't be around for much longer. I realize it was in last week's episode but I like that she knows how to defend herself and that it isn't always about Clark saving her. They toyed with this with Lana a few seasons ago but it went nowhere. I also like that she calls Clark on his shit.
I don't miss Pete.
I agree that Chloe should be the next to know Clark's secret. Part of the appeal of Buffy the Vampire Slayer to me was that her friends were in on it too. They were all in it together. Whereas Smallville is about Clark dealing with everything and hiding it all from his friends. It definitely affects the feel of the show.
