The only good part of this ep was the continued interaction between Lois and Clark. The rest of the story was really blah...
Anyhow, back to Lois - great bit of casting there, imo.
Anyone else annoyed that they didn't actually kill off Chloe at the end of last season. Lionel Luthor needs to be out of jail - he gives the show an added dynamic that it desperately needs.

I didn't think this was a bad as it looked like it was going to be.
I feel so bad for Chloe, I always thought she was much hotter than Lana, but now Lois is smokin', she's screwed in that department.
From next week's previews...
I always hoped the series would end with Clark knocking her up, her getting a suntan, and the baby kicking right through her stomach,
I guess that could still happen...

Chloe is the best darn actress on TV. I know it is ridiculous to say that with so many serious dramas out there. But it is very clear, she knows how to work the camera. The last scene was very well done. Just the repeat shots of Clark and Lois, smiling and laughing. Then switch to Chloe smiling. Then back to Clark and Lois. Back to Chloe. It's then she realizes there is something more ... It was like you were watching her heart break.

I never watched this show before this season... is it just me or are the stories rather weak with fantastic eye candy? Hell, the show could be Lois walking around kicking people around and calling them bitches and I'd still sit there like a lobotomized monkey.

I thought this episode was rather good...I think the WB lowers expecations each week by the horrible promos that are put together. I wish they'd explore the relationship between Clark and Jonathan more - the scenes between Welling and Schnieder are often the best parts of each episode. But I realize the show to some degree has to focus on the high school relationships to keep their 18 - 30 demographic audience tuning in.
I do agree that Allison Mack is the best of the young female actresses on this show...although saying she's the best actress on TV is a stretch.

I was thinking the same thing, maybe he's her agent?
Anyway, lame episode but I'm all for refocusing on the day-to-day high school life aspects of the show as opposed to the damn caves. Anyone notice that, no caves this week? No one went down there with a flashlight, or to have some quiet time, nada. Thank god.

Ok Ok I overstated it a bit .... I did say "I know it is ridiculous to say that with so many serious dramas out there."
I just think that some of the best moments of the show have involved Chloe. The writers give her some of the best lines. The director and writers obviously knows she can deliver the few emotional moments the show offers.
We know Welling & Kruek can barely act. But Clark is just the stoic character that everyone bounces the good lines off of. The weak link is Lana.
Now Lois has the potential to add to the show. She seems to be able to work the camera and deliver lines.
Keep Chloe and get rid of Lana.

Smallville isn't the "fifth network" powerhouse it used to be.
"America's Next Top Model," 3.6/6, showed improvement over last week and gave UPN fifth place, beating The WB's "Smallville" by a few tenths.

I liked this episode. Almost didn't watch it cos of that godawful promo (and Lost looks intruiging now that the pilot got me hooked and I'm now conflicted
). yeah, the FOTW was lame (when aren't they?) but she really wasn't the focus. Just an excuse to get from point A to point B with Lois (as a reporter) and adding to the Lois/Clark dynamic.
Chloe was
and Lois was
!
Lana was  and so was Abbie.
Not a great episode (no Lionel
) but a darned good one. And, yes, Lois kicking the doc while casually calling her a bitch gave me a warm tingling feeling. But then, Erica Durance has been doing that for me since the first pic I saw of her as Lois. The fact that she's totally nailed the character makes her even hotter.
I'm glad to see Clark growing a spine (took him three seasons but it finally happened - guess fourth time is the charm in his case) but.... can Johnathan get any more bipolar? First he hates all Luthors. Then he bonds with Lex (when Lex moved into the farm for a while and worked off his stay as a farm hand) to then immediately go back to not trusting him and practically despising him. Then, last episode, he tells Clark to cut Lex a break only to then turn around in this episode and once again give his obligatory anti-Lex comments. The man is insane.
And gimme more Michael Ironside dammit! Since he joined the cast, will we be seeing Dana Delany anytime soon?
Isn't Lex supposed to be extremely sick cos of his being poisoned? He looked way to healthy. Did his super health (it was previously established that his exposure to Kryptonite transformed him into Perfect Health Man) just kick into overdrive?
My only other gripe was that last moment while Chloe looked at Clark and Lois. I get the funny feeling that we'll be seeing whiney Chloe (the one that should have stayed dead) again.
I hope I'm wrong.

Pretty good episode. Of course the Krypt/tuck crap was annoying in the promos.
First I must say:
Lois

Lana still
Abby
Chloe is looking real good

Ok now for the epi.
I agree with another poster about Michael Ironside. I would love to see more of his character, instead of him popping in and out here and there. He is a 4 star General.
The whole kryptonite thing and its 1001 uses (as mentioned above) gets tiresom. Pete using it as NOS in his car, facelifts, poison, some kind of afrodegiak(sp) in Thirst, hell why don't they just put out a soft drink with it.
The Jason Teague character is a little too much, I found it a little too easy for him to get a job at Lana's school. I did like the scene between him and Clark in the locker room, Jason knowing that he "stole" Lana away, so he is kinda making up for it "signing" his permission slip for football, kinda cool.
I absolutely LOVED the scene with Lex standing in the doorway of Lana's hospital room and hearing Jason telling Lana what he means to him. Great snene between him and Jason. Telling him that "Lana deserves the best...I hope your it" I love Michael Rosenbaum. I think its a little odd that Lex is very protective of Lana, I am not sure its for Clarks sake or maybe his. Loved the scene though. More Lex.
I would like to see an episode or 2 solely dedicated to Lex. Such an interesting character too! Like the episode in the first season in the night club. MORE LEX!
I am getting a little tired of Lana always ending up in a hospital bed, how mant times can this girl do this? Ugggh.
I think it will be interesting that Martha will be managing the Talon, though, I guess they need to do something with her character. Should be cool.
I love Lois. Her and Clarks chemistry are great, I love the scenes she is in, keep her for the WHOLE season damn it!
I was a little sad at the end when Chloe was looking at Clark, looking at Lois and seeing there is a definite attraction, poor Chloe.
Chloe baby call me ok, it will be ok, I won't hurt you like Clark has, I love you baby
The whole evil milf and her daughter Abby was so so. Ehh.
Lois in that skimpy outfit after getting off the table HOLY CRAP!! Very hot.
Like the shower scene with abby too, HOT!
Overall 7/10

I started watching this show maybe the 3rd to last show of season 2..I really never paid attention and didn't know what the show was..the title 'Smallville' didn't really draw me in. But I did find out it was about Superman and even though super hero/comic book type things are usually a big turnoff the idea sounded pretty unique and interesting for a TV show so I checked it out..and liked it. Then after season 2, I bought the season 1 DVD set..liked the pilot, then it all pretty much sucked. And I've noticed I really like the first couple and last couple of episodes of a season, then they get past the interesting stuff created during those few episodes and it all goes back to stupid pointless stuff like kryptonite plastic surgery(hard to watch for me)..too bad, it seems like every week last year and now after this episode I can't decide if I want to keep watching, but there's usually enough to keep me going..and now I like Lois..not just because she's hot but she's the only thing interesting to watch..well, Chloe is, I just can't stand girls like her.

"And I've noticed I really like the first couple and last couple of episodes of a season ..."
It is the difference between episodic and serial television. When Smallville is strongest is when they tie multiple shows together with a central theme. The "Freak of the Week" is just episodic television at its worst. I really dislike it when one episode could be exchanged with any other episode.

I know many hate "best ofs" but... Once they release all the full season box sets on DVD...
I want a Smallville: The Mythology box set with just the continuing-story-arc episodes that matter. Maybe 5 episodes per season, 20-25 total?
I'd buy that IN A HEARTBEAT but not a full season full of stand-alone episodes like last night.

I really don't understand it. Everybody keeps complaining "Too much caves. I hate caves. Don't these kids ever go to school?"
Then, right when you get a core school episode, that deals with football, son defying father, apperances, acceptance, etc. you throw that all out the window and say "FOTW and HS, so dumb.".... Come on people. There's only so much of this complaining I can take.
Personally, I thought it was a really good episode. I saw the preview last week and though "Well, that looks retarded." I was pleasently surprised. In fact, I'm not even going to watch any more preivews and just watch the show. I think I'll be better off that way.
It was good how they gave Jason some more background - not just the football, but the heritage!!
Pleased with the continued Lana/Jason and Clark/Lois relationships. I can definitely do without Chloe pining over Clark - that ending camera work was too shifty - in more ways than one!
Terrific opening episodes so far. Sure some points could be improved on, but most shows are in the same category.
