OK, I have to admit I am a huge Jim Rome fanboy, but I dont think he will work. A caller tried to bring it up on his radio show friday, and Rome totaly avoided it, but not in the good way of avoding it. I think he's getting because maybe of a connection with Kilborn (were at ESPN together, although Rome wasnt on Sportcenter) or maybe his boy Jay Mohr set him up. I seem to go with Mohr as a more likely reason, especially since Last Comic Standing was a big hit this summer.

Did you read my entire post?

Letterman isn't testing Rome out for the position. He and the people at CBS are mixing it up for fun. They did the same thing with hosts like Elvis Costello (who did a bang up job) and Luke Wilson (who blew) who guest hosted for Dave.

They found that audiences like having different guest hosts and people you wouldn't think of doing that kind of gig.

Jim Rome has ZERO chance of getting the LATE LATE SHOW. He's an interesting "personality" and I'm not surprised they're letting him host for 1 night. He won't be back until he's a guest.

Jay Mohr and Craig Kilborn aren't having any influence on who Letterman and Moonves are using and as all powerful as Les is, he won't be making this decision. Letterman will. Unless Moonves absolutely can't stand who Letterman and his producers pick, he'll only be a small part of this decision. CBS has already said publicly that Letterman has nothing in his contract that allows him to pick his own successor, so, unless Moonves promises the Letterman gig to the new host, he can always fire the person after Dave leaves anyway.
