The scope and breadth of these two shows are very different.

I religiously watch both shows and have seen every episode of for the past two seasons.

Compared to L&O:SVU, W/oAT is right inline with it. Both shows have interesting lead characters, with a little personal drama as well as solid stories of their cases. Where L&O divides its time between the police work and the court case, W/oAT has the entire hour to track down leads, piece together clues and bring a conclusion to the case (and the best part is, not all of the endings are happy ones).

If the only way you can watch W/oAT is by purchasing the DVDs, I'd say do it. For a show in its first season to gain the popularity it did and steal viewership from ER, that's got to be some street cred right there.

My advice:

It's a great show, but I would save my money and just rent it. I don't think it is something you will watch over and over - like SCRUBS.

It is definitely worth a purchase. It is a great series, far better than CSI or any of its clones, IMO. As mentioned, it is very similar to L&O in certain ways (you only learn personal details of the main characters in certain episodes and you basically have to piece them together to figure anything out).

I mentioned this is a seperate thread that I started months ago, but it is one of (if not the) best shows that incorporates music into the story. It really does a fantastic job in capturing the mood and tone with its song choices, and it really adds to the atmosphere.
