I really thought this past season of The Wire would be the one that got it the recognition it deserves. What a joke, 24? CSI?
Same goes for Scrubs in comedy. I agree with whoever said they need to release some of the reserved spots that Everybody Loves Raymond has. It's not that great. I also would have liked to have seen Clancy Brown get a nod for Carnivale (brother justin).

i don't get it.

sure keifer and 24 are entertaining in a mind-numbing, nonsensical, leave ur brain at the door kinda way BUT how is it remotely possible that that show and its lead actor gets chosen over The Wire, The Shield, Deadwood and the lead actors of those shows?

Really dumb question, but what is the time frame for shows to be eligable? Because I'm lost on how or why "Six Feet Under" didn't make it.

Kind of sucks. Peter Krause did an amazing job last season and should have won in drama catetory.

Well he was nominated for his performance last season - in the 2003 awards.

Hopefully they'll find a way to get him one next year. I think he deserved it over Chiklis last year, but Chiklis deserved it over Gandolfini the year before that, so ... It's the constant "make-up" battle. If only the Academy didn't have its head up its ass and wouldn't wait until a year or two later (realizing how ignorant they've been about great TV shows) to nominate things. They always seem to be a year or two behind. Look at this year's nonsense. Remember when they nominated Season 7 of TNG for Best Drama? Way to be on top of things!

vice versa.

Gandolfini won last year, Chiklis the year before.

Woah ... the brain is failing me. Between FX's and HBO's wacky scheduling methods, it's hard to keep all this shit straight in my head. Perhaps I should remove my head from my ass.

You're probably right. I was just reading the latest nonsense in there before posting in this thread. There should be a warning when you click on it or something.

True.

On another note, I wish that the shows like that (all dramas on HBO, Nip/Tuck, and The Shield) could be shown like regular network television. Yet, on the other hand, I don't.

Question for those of you still following in the thread, what do you all think of Joan of Arcadia? Was very suprised to see it nominated as a best drama in its first season. I've only seen one episode, but the show sounds interesting. Not too much has been said about the show thus far, although a lot has been made of the drama categorey itself. Unlike West wing or CSI, however, Joan of Arcadia couldn't just sit on its reputation. So any opinions on it?

I think most will say JoA didn't deserve the nomination.

It started off pretty good, but about halfway through the season it got stale when they switched the focus from helping people to her personal life.

Here's my question:
Lead actors submit one episode for consideration, supporting actors submit two. Knowing what episodes are representing which actors might make handicapping a little easier (in theory anyway; when folks like Ray Romano or Tyne Daly win, it's more likely for a body of work than an individual performance, IMO). Does anyone know which episodes were submitted for the actors in the lead categories?

I'm guessing Long Term Parking is a given. But they would need another episode each.
I'm really curious about which episodes the Leads have picked. No info in the Emmy site. Anyone have any thoughts?

I haven't read the whole thread but how did Michael J. Fox NOT get a nomination for his role on Scrubs?

Conan O'Brien dumps all over both of their shows.

Yes, this season was better but then I enjoyed season 4 as well and wasn't disappointed once I saw 'Whitecaps'.

*I love Arrested Development, but Curb Your Enthusiasm is my favorite comedy of the past couple of years. Don't flame me. I really didn't want to choose anyone in the Lead Actress Drama category as I didn't liken any of them all that great this year.

Hopefully there will be a major sweep for HBO this year.

Not a bad list at all, conscience.
I think even you realize, however (based on your disclaimer) that Arrested Development is more deserving this year than CYE. I'm a huge fan of that show, but this season only really produced one standout episode (The Diamond Lane) and was far inferior to the prior seasons. Other than that, I'm ok with the list, though I (and certainly the voters) would have gone with Al Pachino over Mos Def, though both are deserving.
