Terrible nominations
John Ritter for 8 Simple Rules? The wrong actors on Deadwood were nominated and nothing for The OC? What shows were the voters watching this past season.

The Academy is clearly on drugs. However, I can't say that I am surprised with these choices.
The West Wing fell off the cliff this year. However, I knew that they would receive 'lifetime achievement' nominations. I guarantee that one of the episodes submitted to Academy members was The Supremes, the only one that was up to the quality of previous seasons.
CSI? A fine show, but S4 was clearly inferior to the previous seasons. Plus it just it is just not up to the level of other dramas, particularly crime dramas.
No major nominations for Nip/Tuck nor The Shield? WTF!
Needless to say, I won't be watching this crappy awards show.

I don't have too much problem with the acting nominations, although Ritter is a ****ing joke, and they are a little heavy on The West Wing (can't complain too much as the acting hasn't suffered with the writing) and Sex and the City.
But the Outstanding Drama nominations are hysterical, not to mention completely predictable. I don't expect the average American to watch everything and have a balanced familiarity with the television landscape, but you'd thing these people that profess to care about TV would at least somewhat pay attention to what's on the air instead of just nominating the same old shit out of habit. Too damn funny.

So predictable that I half expected Law & Order to get nominated.

The funny thing is that when looking at full bodies of work, the top-3 would make my top-5 all-time list.

Why don't they just call this the HBO Awards?
It's sad to see that Angel didn't get a single nomination. I can't believe it didn't even get a technical nom.

God that list took me forever to get to the main nominations, Ugh. Why did they put them all in the middle of a long Word document with all the technical stuff in front and back?
I can't believe the crappy theme music from Monster House got nominated. We always joke about that Dave Matthews-lite singing about sheet-rock.

Not a single nomination for The Wire. Chris Bauer alone did the best work on a drama I've seen in a long time. Oh well. At least the Emmys recognized The Shield in the past couple of years.

A few random thoughts:
Seeing the full list...I can't believe they have categories for "Best Hairstying Comedy" and "Best Hairstyling Drama"!
Ian McShane was robbed!
The John Ritter nomination is both sad and silly. If they wanted to honor the guy, how 'bout just giving him a posthumous award? I think even Ritter himself would admit that 8 SIMPLE RULES was far from his best or funniest work.
Great...more Sex & The City and Frasier nominations taking away from the more-deserving. Well, at least the Academy will HAVE to nominate some other show in 2005!

DVD Talk Godfather & 2020 TOTY Winner
I don't know how I missed "Angels", but I've got to watch that one.
for Arrested Development, and for Jeffrey Tambor's acting nod. Absolutely my #1 hope is that it'll win best comedy (it deserves it, and both SaTC and CYE had down years; the other two network comedies nominated, yuck)
If The Sopranos is ever going to win best drama, this should be the year with West Wing down, the other nominees lightweights, Deadwood ignored and no 6FU eligable.
Glad to see both Alan Shore and Denny Crane up for their work in The Practice (disheartened to see Sharon Stone nominated for her vanity guest spot, though).
And to echo the perious posters' feelings about John Ritter : WTF????

When are they going to get off of The West Wing's dick? It's obvious that most of these noms are out of pure laziness and that's quite pathetic.
Same goes for WILL & GRACE, etc...
Even though ALIAS was sub-par this year for some people, I would love to see Victor Garber win. He deserves it, imo.
I can't believe that the cast from NIP/TUCK was ignored - that's ridiculous.
And Ian McShane was robbed.
to Robin Weigert and Brad Dourif though.
I'd like to see LaPaglia win Best Actor in a Drama - he was excellent this season.
Jeffrey Tambor
Maybe SCRUBS might get noticed next season since they will not be able to nominate the same old shit anymore. Dumb sonofabitches.
Maura Tierney is never going to be recognized for her exceptional work on E.R. I think I have finally accepted that fact.
And if anyone from 8 SIMPLE RULES... should have been nominated, it should have been James Garner w/ a Supporting Actor nod.

surprised to see some shows sweep certain catagories. no nip/tuck or the shield for any major awards? also that bull shit rule about having to have at least 6 episodes to be nominated really sucks for the office, since that show would have cleaned house. nice to see chappelles show get a few awards
