I was in high school in the 80's and like the show. My daughter, who is in middle school now, loves it. We got it from the library.

I can't believe only one other post mentioned Wonder Years. Some of the stuff from F&G was borrowed/stolen directly from Wonder Years. Wonder Years deserves much more credit than F&G although I enjoy them both immensely. I was 10 when Wonder Years premiered on TV and 15 when it went off the air. I never watched F&G on TV but purchased it blind during DDD 20% off Christmas sale last year. These two geek series are clearly the best live action (non animated) ever. I hope Wonder Years seasons are released on dvd in the near future, although I'm not getting my hopes up as the music rights will be very difficult to obtain.

Oops, I must have misread the title. Nope, just checked, it still says Your Freaks & Geeks story.

In the Fall of 1999, Entertainment Weekly, TV Guide, and every media outlet that had someone assigned to report entertainment news, did a story previewing the new TV season.
They all said something like this:
There's a new show coming on NBC called FREAKS AND GEEKS. It's about teenagers and it's set in a high school, but it's not aimed at a teen audience. It's actually really smart and funny. It's great.
So, based on the unanimously positive endorsement from every television critic who had seen the show in advance, I watched the first episode, and they were right-- it was great.
Then, even though NBC treated the show like shit-- moving it around the schedule, taking it off the schedule, airing eps out of order or not at all-- I watched every episode.
Pretty fucking amazing story, huh?

Back when F&G originally aired, I heard a lot about how great it was, but I just never got around to catching it. Fast-forward to last year when the DVDs were released. I blind-bought the set and loved it so much that before I even finished watching all of the series, I went and ordered the yearbook edition. It's now sitting on a shelf behind me! I also picked up the soundtrack and the first script book.
I wanted to catch Paul Feig during his book tour a couple of weeks ago, but I had a film class that night. Too bad--it would've been nice to get him sign some of my F&G stuff.

Yep.
I read those promos and watched it from the beginning. Then when it was on Fox I taped all of them in case it never made it onto DVD.
When it did I had to have the yearbook edition and didn't care what it cost.
I went to school the same time as the show was set so it really brought back memories. Great soundtrack too.
I also floated a bit between the social classes. I was the #1 lefty pitcher so I could slightly be considered a jock but I had friends in all groups.
This show is easily in my top five (or less) of all time. Undeclared is also worth checking out.

I've been a rabid F&G fan since the debut episode first aired on NBC. I'm actually mentioned a few times in the audio commentary. In 2001, I bought the complete Norseman mascot (head, helmet, sword, shield, full body costume w/ boots) and Sam's Parisian Night suit from Dreamworks Studio. Producer Gabe Sachs got in contact with me, and long story short, I ended up selling it to him. As a bonus, Gabe also sent me some rare items that were only made available to a select few F&G insiders, including a F&G Yearbook and autographed 'reserve parking' sign used on location shoots.

I actually didn't like the show at first. I thought it was too low key, derivative of The Wonder Years, and the humor kind of flat. I even stopped watching after a few episodes. After giving it another try, it started to grow on me, and before long I was a complete fan and totally in love with the characters. I don't think the show's warmth has been duplicated since it went off the air. And I found Sam's mom extremely sexy.

I always thought she was cute in some sort of way although I'm not sure she was sexy to me. Maybe you got excited with her Halloween outfit.
She has always reminded me of one of Mrs. Pusser's best friends.

I actually watched the show when it was originally airing, though I did miss a couple of episodes.
A couple of years later, some network, I forget which, re-aired all the eps, inlcuding the ones NBC did not air, and I taped it all then.
Didn't get around to getting the DVD's until this past Christmas, when someone finally got it for me as a present. Very glad they did!

I watched all the episodes when they aired on NBC and The Family Network. I bought the Yearbook Edition for $127.50 when it came out and it still stands proudly on my entertainment center. Even though it only ran for 18 episodes, I consider it one of the 10 best shows in the history of television.

My entire family watched it when it first came on and we were all hooked. I watched the first 6 or 7 before I had other commitments that stopped me from watching weekly, then it was gone.

A friend of mine kept telling me I should watch it and I kept putting it off judging it by it's title. I knew absolutely nothing about the show. My friend checked it out from the library and gave it to me. I ended up watching the entire series in 2 sittings.

I don't own the set yet (I'll buy it on the next DDD 20 % off sale or if I find a deal before that), but I rented it a few months ago, and was hooked. Aside from The Wonder Years, I hadn't seen a show that so captured what it was like to be an insecure teenager, regarless of time period. And I really loved how they handled the storyline of Sam dating Cindy. It didn't end up as some great romance. Sam had put her on a pedestal, but once they got to know each other it turned out they weren't compatible.
It wasn't a goofy trifle of a show like Saved by the Bell, and it wasn't an "almost there" show like Boy Meets World. Nor was it just teenage melodrama. It was a relatable show that felt like it came out of the writers' experiences.
It aired while I was in high school, but I never watched it. I had vaguely heard of it though. Too bad, since I would have loved this show back then.

Could never watch it on TV because it was on a SATURDAY NIGHT! Why do they put sci fi and other shows that appeal to younger audiences on a saturday night...what the hell is wrong with these morons!!
I watched because I knew it was a good show, love the cast, saw franco in spiderman and said hell yeah this will rule, and sure enough, a wonder years for our generation...
also it was what high school was really like!

After reading years of praise for this show on this forum, I fired up Azerous a couple weeks ago and grabbed all 18 episodes. Just finished watching the finale yesterday, and I have to agree this is easily one of the best TV shows I've ever seen.
I really think each one of these episodes deserves their own discussion thread. I propose that everyone with access to this show start watching them again in order and start a thread for each one. There's so much to talk about and it's hard to find anyone outside forums like this that have ever even heard of the show.
One of my favorite moments of the series was when Bill and the cheerleader had their makeout session at the spin-the-bottle party. Neil outside of the door was classic.
I'm really crushed that I won't get to watch any more original episodes of this show. I actually cried at the end of the finale. A great finale it was too. After my senior year of high school, our valedictorian and a few other friends of mine jumped on Dead tour for a month. That was a fantastic way to wrap up the show. Brought back SO many memories. "Ripple" is one of the most beautiful songs ever.
Few people I noticed in this show that have gone on to much bigger roles:
1. Wallace from Veronica Mars was the student that Lindsay demolished in her short return to the Matheletes.
2. The younger brother math genius from Numb3rs was Neil's older brother that Lindsay went ga-ga for at the Schwieber's anual party.
3. Samaire Armstrong (Ari's original assistant on Entourage) is easily the best looking hippy chick in the history of television. I fell in love instantly.
RIP Freaks & Geeks.

You'd be suprised how many people have seen this show. Back when I smoked (all of two weeks ago) anytime tv came up in the smoking deck at work I'd bring up this show and I'd say 1/3 people had seen this show and loved it.

Watched all the eps of F&G, but have only gotten through about half of the bonus features so far. Interseting side notes for anyone else watching the DVD's ...
1) Don't forward chapter once the credits star to roll, fast foward through them, instead. They are set up in that crappy way where there's still a big chunk of story after them, and the next chapter actually begins a bit later in the show. I did this for the first disc before I realized I was missing parts of the story.
2) For some strange reason I've yet to figure out, with one of my DVD players (Panasonic DVD-S35) and the episode "Dead Dog And Gym Teachers" - when it gets to the end of the scene where Bill crashes during the go kart races, instead of going to the next scene in the episode, it starts playing the next epsiode. If I went back to before the scene ends, and chapter forward, then it will go to the proper next scene, but it plays pixilated and pausey for the first few minutes before righting itself.
It only does it during this episode, on this particular DVD player, but works fine on all my others - so I don't know why there's a glitch. Anyone else experience this?
I'm also halfway through Undeclared, and damn this show is brilliant and funny, too! There's lots of appearences from F&G cast members (some are even part of the regular cast, too), as well as many other cool guest stars.
A friend, who also recently got this set, and I were commenting on how ahead of it's time this show was. If it were airng now, and on a different network, I believe it would be a success. But, them's the breaks. I highly reccomend this show if you've never seen it, and it's well worth a blind buy, too. (which it was for me)

Does anyone here have the yearbook? If so, what have you done with your dvd's? I wish I could get a little F&G DVD box/case and just stick them on my shelf with my other dvd's. Because as it is now, I kind of forget I have the show because it's in a yearbook next to my real high school year book. And it's too big for the DVD shelf.
