The best part about Kim being in CTU is that hopefully all the "Kim in peril" stuff will at least tie into the main storyline and not be superfluous filler like it was in season 2. So maybe she'll be attacked by actual terrorists (like in season 1) and not cougars or dingoes or jackalopes....

Anyone else think that the one good thing about Kim (her cute hotness) is gone? To me, it looks like theyve tried to make her just hot, which actually isnt a good thing...the pics of her on the official site are bad.

I don't know about you, but I have no complaints about this pic.

Also, let's not forget that it's been two full years now since Season One.
Cuthbert was 18 then, she's 20 now. Big difference.

But if folks like the younger Elisha, hey, we can go even further back:

There are no big spoilers in the article below, but if you are looking to go into tonight's episode knowing absolutely nothing at all, well you probably shouldn't be in this thread in the first place. But the below article may contain some minor spoilers if you are completely in the dark.
'24' Revamps Plot Line for Third Season
NEW YORK — Probably this season's best returning series, "24," (search) is back with more! more! more! trouble for CTU's Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) (search), President Palmer (Dennis Haysbert) and, of course, the world's most annoying daughter, Kimberly Bauer (Elisha Cuthbert)
Not to give any big secrets away, but season three begins three years from where we last left off. Jack has been deep undercover and has developed some, er, health problems of his own.
I'd like to tell you what has happened to President Palmer who was infected with a deadly virus after a bad handshake last time we saw him, but alas, I can't. Jack and company are still dealing with terrorists, but not your run-of-the-mill Middle Eastern variety - more of the our-neighbors-to-the-south terrorists.
The bad guys have hired an American teenage "mule" to carry some white powder for them. It's not what you think -or at least it's not what I think I thought it was.
In fact, whatever the heck the powder is, this kid's got enough of it to do great harm to all of Los Angeles. Bauer, himself not in great shape, has to shape up or the world itself can be destroyed - and only an actor as fine as Sutherland can make you believe that one man can in fact save the world in 24 hours. And he's better this year - if possible.
As great, riveting, beautifully written and acted as "24" is, however, the producers and writers have given the one character that has continually stopped the action - troublesome Kim - a bigger role. And she's got a bunch of beautiful, young cohorts.
Yes, this year nearly everyone on "24" is twenty three. And gorgeous. And the series suffers for it. And Kim is now - get this!-working at CTU. She's managed to go from ditzy, always-in-trouble nanny to genius computer hacker. They must think that Cuthbert will be a draw for the coveted 18-to-34-year olds. But the coveted group in my house howled their disappointment at this new turn.
To make matters worse, she's dating her father's new agent/ right-hand guy, (James Badge Dale). That aside, if you're a "24" fan, get set to get riveted to your seat - while Bauer and his band fly by the seat of their pants.

It was a pretty obvious episode, but entertaining.
Off to a better start than Season 2 at least.

In the article I posted above they say Kim is surrounded by beautiful 23 year olds at CTU. Did anyone else see them? I must have blinked.
I was also expecting them to explain what happened to Palmer, I though he would be blind or crippled or have a cyborg skeleton or something. Did he just walk away from the deadly handshake from last year with no ill-effects?

Wow!
It's great to see this series hasn't lost its edge!
Was I the only one yelling "Don't Do it Jack!" at the screen in the last 15 seconds! That was a real shocker!
Love the edge Jack has to him this season and even like his new partner (though I thought I wouldn't going into the episode).
Can't wait 'til next week!

I thought it was a good first episode in general. Jack is completely cold, and he did a great job.
A couple things I didn't like-- kim working at CTU.. I agree with the Ben Stiller guy, the only reason she got the job was because of Jack (and because the show's producers didn't want to get rid of her.)
Also, why do they have to add a romantic angle to every character? Is bachelor life so bad?

OH
MY
WORD.
Great episode, cool plot, but W T H is Kimmy doing working at CTU?!? This is the craziest thing I've ever seen. From "I think I should go into the basement of this strange guy's cabin to be safe" to working on a terrorist threat and pulling hacker-type computer tricks. You've GOT to be kidding me... I love the show but man it's hard to see past the fact that we're supposed to believe that the only thing between a major terrorist act and the peoples' safety is a roomfull of twentysomethings... And as far as the believeability of TV's most famous ditz now being smart and effective against terrorism, it really strains all credulity...
