But come on, Dave Mordal's bit about being the President was totally out of left field and totally original. Who knows if he's been arrested before! It was funny none the less and had me in tears.

After Jay announced Dat Phan had won, and by a 70% to 30% margin, I was in tears again, but for a different reason.

I sure hope we get to see Dave again, before the end of the series

He has been. Held up a gas station when he was 17 or so. He mentioned this on the first week or two of the show.

His stuff last night wasn't as good as his "why don't we have a machine that makes sandbags" riff from a few weeks back but it's still loads funnier than "I'm Asain, laugh at me" that Dat trotted out there.

Yeah I remember that, but you have to wonder if it is true or if it's part of the act. If he e-mails me back (which I doubt), I will ask him if that is true or not.

I felt that a couple of the cast-members totally blew a major chance to lock themselves into the final six. Once they all agreed to slam it to P., any one or two of them could have voted for another. Not enough votes to skew the outcome, but (since P. could only challenge a person who voted for him) enough to ensure that these two survive. Rich and Dave could have teamed up and voted for each other and been sure to survive the final (not really) cut. They could still pull something like this when they all gang up on Geoff. Rich and Ralph could still pull something like this, since they both are pretty unlikely to earn immunity.

Speaking of immunity, shouldn't the challenges have something to do with them being funny?!? How was a scavenger hunt indicative of this?

PS. Dave's set was his weakest yet and P.'s was his best.

The whole group were such jerks to P., that I'm glad he survived. Everybody but Geoff acted like a bunch of high-school elitist a**holes. P. became my choice to survive just by default.

They showed Dave's mugshot on the show where he got chosen so it is true.

As much as I like Mordall, let's be realistic. His set was off. I laughed some and enjoyed it, but there were a lot of tired jokes in there; plus he pulled a Seinfeld and repeated one joke with a slight word rearrangement to milk a pity laugh. Mordall's infinitely funnier than Dat, but he wasn't on his game. Dat's routine is funny for about 15 seconds, and then is a tiresome bore, and I'd have no interest in ever seeing him again, but he was good enough to make it a toss-up. I would have voted for Mordall, but his set wasn't good enough to crucify those who chose Dat. And frankly, neither of them was anywhere near as funny as Rob was last week. Mordall wasn't robbed ... he simply dropped the ball. That said, I really hope to see him perform sometime. I love his humor.

Now see, comedy is subjective. Maybe it's Mordall's style and his delivery, but much of what he says makes me laugh. On the other hand, Rob's standup kind of leaves me staring at the screen. And believe me, I love off the wall humor, but a semi-colon is just a semi-colon. It just doesn't make me laugh.

But at least we can agree on Dat!

A semi-colon in and of itself sure isn't funny, but I love the comparison of how a colon is antagonistic and confrontational, yet a semi-colon is friendly welcoming -- "go ahead ... just keep writing ... I'm not gonna stop you ... no one knows what I do anyway." Inspired stuff. But, yeah ... comedy is certainly subjective.

My only issue with Mordall's performance this time was that it came across pretty formulaic. It reminded me of Cory's performance a few episodes back: fairly funny, but typical stand-up material. I thought he was much stronger during the prelims and when he took down the wannabe cowboy.

Of course, if they're editing these performances as much as we expect, who really knows. Mordall could have given the exact same routine both times, but they edited in the best parts the first time and the average parts this time. Given that they're packing one week of content into less than 20 minutes of show, who knows how they're manipulating us with editing.

In any case, on the whole, this show has proven to be very entertaining.

Yes I believe that since they have placed 1st in the ratings every week, during their time slot, that this show will come back next summer. I sure hope it does.

I'm really starting to like summer television. There have been some really good reality television shows on during the summer the last couple of years, TAR, Mole and others that I cannot remember at 2:15 in the morning (damn this bad back and siatic nerve and the shooting pain in my leg that keeps waking me up). And the nice thing is, is that there isn't too much to watch during the summer, not like during the regular season. And I never watch repeats of programs.

Finally! Something that Dat Phan does better than Dave Mordal! You should read some of the posts in his message board. Those people are brutal against Dat Phan.

Hey it's not his fault that the f*ing audience doesn't know comedy when it sees and hears it!

As I said in an earlier post, I hate it when Asian comics rely on doing the whole Asian voice stereotype to make everyone laugh. It's cheap (but apparently effective to the masses).

Might as well have him dress up with thick glasses and big front teeth [MockAsianAccent] "White people have round eyes, but what you don't know is that Asian's have naturally round eyes too. They're only slanted around white people because we get so suspicious of them" [/MockAsianAccent] Har har har.

I'd like to see a black, asian, fat, etc. comic who doesn't rely on the fact that he/she is black, asian, fat, etc. to get laughs. And if we can't get that, then I'd like to see a FatBlackAsian comic. At least then it would be something I've never seen before.

Others have said the comics are given ten minutes. I would find it extremely boring if the comics did the same routine each time - let alone recycle the same jokes. You can say they edit out the recycled parts but that would be lame. I would hope that there is somewhere in the contact clause of the competition a stipulation that you must do a new routine each time.

Maybe that's why they only show 3 minutes, that way if they're challenged again, they can show a different 3 minutes of their routine...

well atleast I'm holding out hope that dat loses. from his website:

"Dat Phan still lives under a desk. He can't afford a bed. He can afford this website because I help him with it. He pays me $20.00 a week"

So hopefully that means the guy loses.

Well, from the early casting episodes you can tell they were put on 85% because of their stand up and 15% because of their character. I find it funny that once they got into the house everyone realized Dat was an anti-stand up guy, that is, stand ups are genreally very self depricating people and stay within the same circles always making jokes to one another. Dats calculated routine, complete lack of spontaneous wit, and forced nice guy attitude completely rails in the face of an average stand ups personality. Makes for great viewing.

But Dat stinks. Sure, they all fall into a stereotype- the fat guy, the black guy, the East coast guy, the white mom, the black woman, the alternative comic, and thier routines no doubt reflect that, Dat doesnt show any range. At least John Leguizamo does several hispanic characters plus other races convincingly. Dave was my kind of comedian, a dry wit, and while his personality/jokes played off the under class, rural middle America guy, he told jokes outside that box and was sharp. Dat on the other hand stinks at being funny as a person or on stage. He stinks, stinks, stinks, and I hope he reads this post and makes note of it.

'A dry wit' is the perfect description for Dave and that's why I like him!

My assumption is that they'd edit together the best three minutes that watchers of the show haven't already seen (if possible). They would only be doing themselves a disfavor is the edited a set to make somebody look bad. My wife and I only watch for the comedy bits and would tune out if we knew that the funny bits were being removed from the losing comic.

I agree. From what I saw, Dat was much funnier than Geoff. I loved the whole urinal bit. "Shake it off." I was pleased to see Dat pull out something a bit different than what he used last time.

Next week should be interesting. I hope Ralphie has his ass handed to him. His whole "I'm the big dog" attitude has gotten quite stale with me. Tess' "look at how cute I am" attitude isn't much more endearing.

At this point, I'm pulling for either Rich Voss or, surprisingly since I didn't really care for him before, Dat Phan.

Yeah, gotta give the kid credit. It was a very funny set. I wonder how much overlap there was and if he was actually funnier than we saw last week, but they edited down to keep from doubling up jokes on the TV audience.

The guys I liked the most -- Dave and Rob -- are gone, so I don't really care who wins from the rest of the group. I just hope the show remains funny.

Dat did indeed deserve this week. Geoff should have realized one of the common comedy killers.. rape. When he did the "No means No" spill I'm sure he lost some fans.

I really wish Dave was still around.
