We pick the show apart because it is so good and we expect so much from it. The fact that people care enough to discuss it to this length demonstrates the show's appeal, IMO.
ExACTly! I wouldn't be watching it if it weren't a great premise and I wouldn't continue if it wasn't led by an incredible actor giving an incredible performance from week to week. I think it is COMPLETELY valid to critique the shows you watch. It's the only way anybody that matters ever hears these things and the only way the bar gets raised for good televised programming. Besides, I wouldn't call it nitpicking. I could write an essay, and will if anybody needs it, on the obvious flaws they have developed in the story, this all besides the needless plot twists thrown in from week to week. Sorry, but this show, IMHO, has a track record for falling short in the second half. The writing is sloppy at best, predictible, unplausible and frustrating.

That being said, it is mindless entertainment and eye candy and I enjoy that during the week. Sadly, this show should be better than that and, worst of all, thinks that it is.

Even though we saw it coming with Mike betraying Palmer, I like this story line. The political manovouering has been great between Palmer, sherry, mike, Lynn, the Defense guy, Joint chiefs, etc. I'm glad Sherry has been out of it for so long. The dialogue between her and Palmer (and Lynn for that matter) is awful.
"I still love you David."
"I don't trust you, woman."
"Let me prove you can trust me"
"Well, OK.."

I think "killing" Lynn is(was) a mistake. It seems to be one of those "over the top" things that make all of us die hard fans roll our eyes a little bit.

I'm glad Jack's kidnappers didn't turn on the torturer and make him stop - that would have been over the top and an easy way out. Anyway, I'll stop rambling.

Here's what upset me about last nights episode. No it wasn't the only thing and yes it's obviously a plot contrivance but it made no sense:

Why did the recording with the real Cypress audio have a tracker on it? Lets think about this. Bad guy makes fake recording. Saves a copy of real recording incase other bad guys turn on him. He plants it into his own body so no one can find it. How would it ever get a tracker on it? Obviously the real bad guys new he had saved a copy and so they planted a tracker on it. First we have to assume that the copy was left where the bad guys could get it and put a tracker on it. Why wouldn't they just destroy it? Or plant a recording of last nights Yankee's game on it? It makes zero sense. I'm willing to overlook the problem that the whole recording was probably ruined when the doctor shocked the guy twice with the defibrilater but I can't overlook that.

next episode spoiler - Static

Spoiler:
Why does everyone keep refer to Lynn being killed off. I could have sworn that it was Carrie pushed off the balcony by Tony in next weeks episode, not Lynn.

Yes, we did.

The "naked men" part, at least. Not so much the torturing.

And whodathunk? - Kiefer, a little chunkmeister?

Woof.

I thought the episode was pretty good. I do not watch previews EVER and I don't sit around try to figure out what's going to happen next, so twists usually turn out to be actual twists for me. (As an aside, nice of my idiot co-worker to come in and say
Spoiler:
"And the previews make it look like Lynn dies in the next one!"
!@)(#*)!@# I just replied, "I DO NOT EVER WATCH THE PREVIEWS so I wouldn't know.")

It was cool how he was able to withstand the torture, 2 things came to mind. First, when they mentioned his daughter, I thought they would go after Kim. A father might be able to take pain, but the thought of them doing that or worse to his daughter might be an effective way to get Jack to talk. Also, I was reminded of an early episode of the Sopranos, where Paulie & Sil couldn't get the Jewish guy to relent. The advise they get from their Jewish buddy is to "make like a mohel" (i.e. go after the jewels). Worked like a charm.

I also don't get how the stereotypical rednecks saw that the guy was middle eastern in a truck at night. The guy's light skinned to begin with, but I guess they needed that angle one way or another.

me, i am just waiting for jack to recover and simply beat the living crap outta his torturers. kinda like the end of last year, at the dock when drazen said kim was dead and he just unloaded the gun into him. that was absolutely great. not a long drawn out 'hollywood' battle, just a quick ending with jack reallly pissed off.

I'd hate to sit next to anyone like this in a movie theatre or even want to see what they think a "good" show is. Just enjoy the show. "ugh"

All I could think when they killed Jack was, "someone get Kevin Bacon and Julia Roberts to revive him, STAT!"

By the way...

I think dparker just might be right. That was a second impression I got. The whole thing happened so damned fast.

Actually...either option is just plain going to suck, so...

Here's more on the FOX "Next Week promo.." controversy..i'm wondering...is Gail Berman related to RICK Berman..?

[from tvguide.com]
Spoiler:
FOURLORN: Fans of 24 -- including yours truly and TV Guide critic Matt Roush -- are fuming over an all-too-revealing promo Fox aired Wednesday teasing next week's episode. The clip showed a major character tumbling down a stairwell, apparently to his/her death. (We won't spoil it for those who were lucky enough to miss it.) For a show that prides itself on maintaining a veil of secrecy around its plotlines, the spoiler appeared to be a shocking gaffe. "24 is a series that zigs where other series zag," a network rep responds to TV Guide Online. "You can never be sure where the show is going to go, so watching every episode is critical to seeing how character plot points are actually resolved." Responds Roush: "This is acceptable only if said character doesn't actually fall down the stairwell." In other words, he/she better be dreaming! Ironically, the tell-all teaser aired just weeks after TV Guide Online personally pleaded with Fox entertainment president Gail Berman to stop giving so much away in the 24 promos. "We have definitely heard that before," she told us at the time. "We're going to try and be mindful of that. I'll take that to heart." And by taking that to heart, she apparently meant, "I'll continue to ruin the show for everyone!
Mwhahaha!"

Intellectually, I'm not too happy w/ FOX and their lame-brained promo for the next epsiode, but...anything that causes Matt Roush to get his panties in a bunch is by me.
