He was hilarious.

Bill on the other hand said one of the stupidest things I've ever heard. The government shouldn't send out a building inspector for his new roof, because it's his roof and therefore his risk.

Kid Rock wants to broker a meeting between Maher and Trump, and Maher says he is willing to do it.

Yep, after watching Bill's "Book Report" about his visit with Trump last night...I am done with him. I will never watch him or his show ever again. Fuck Bill Maher.

But remember, as per Bill Maher himself, if you have a problem with Bill and Trump hanging out the problem is you 🙄😄

Larry David roasts Maher in the NYT, in the most hilarious way possible.

If he responds, he will say that comparing Trump to Hitler is exactly the attitude from the Left that he is criticizing by saying that both sides need to be willing to talk and listen to each other.

Jews are allowed to make fun of Hilter and Nazis. Mel Brooks, Jack Benny, Taika Waititi. It's kind of our thing.

I stopped watching Maher when he had Musk on his show two years ago. Where he jerked him off for 20 non-stop nauseating minutes telling him how great he was. But this!? Why are people still watching this asshole?

Everybody is allowed to make fun of Hitler, but Larry David didn't make fun of Hitler. He made fun of Bill Maher by using an exaggeration or even a provocation and that is how satire works. A comedian like Bill Maher should know that. David could have used Stalin or any other evil dictator, but he went for the big guns to make his point and that is not offensive in any way.

Maher just can't take a joke on his behalf and Piers Morgan is the right address for that, because he can't either.

I did not see the Piers Morgan interview, so IDK everything Maher said, but in what was quoted in that Variety story, Maher never said that he thought David was making fun of Hitler. Maher understands that David was making fun of him. That's why he references a rift in their friendship.

I think what David did with his satire is a criticism of Maher that goes beyond just mocking him or making him the butt of a joke, and Maher's reaction to being criticized like that by a friend is valid.

This is not me saying I agree with Maher but he feels betrayed, and that is justified on his part. It is also justified for liberals like David to feel Maher has betrayed them.

Re: Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO) - Series Discussion Thread

My point was just that David can mock with a Hitler analogy without being disrespectful to the victims of the Holocaust. I'm not sure it's fair game for everyone, but you can't call out a Jew for making Hitler jokes just like you can't call out a black comedian for making a slavery joke, while it's very different for white comedians. Nobody should understand that better than Bill Maher.

Maher's point was not that David using Hitler in a satirical piece diminished the Holocaust.

His point is that equating Trump and Hitler diminishes the depth and breadth of evil that Hitler foisted upon the world.

I have nothing but hatred for Donald Trump, but he hasn't (yet) stripped a minority group of their rights and started rounding them up for extermination.

Maher is saying that rhetoric that elevates Trump to the level of Hitler obscures how evil Hitler was. That's what he says in those Variety quotes.

But Maher criticizes the joke itself and brings in the victims of the Holocaust. That has nothing to do with the joke. It's a misguided attempt to discredit the joke as tasteless.

Re: Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO) - Series Discussion Thread

What exactly happens when you meet Trump? Does he have blackmail materials waiting? Or a mind control ray?

That's the only place my mind can ever go when rationalizing it.

I just don't get it.

His recent visit to have dinner with Trump was the last straw for me. I'm pretty much "done" with him now...

Like I said in my post, I am only reading what the Variety story says about this, and nowhere in that article does Maher criticize the joke, he criticizes the comparison.

Are you saying that David comparing Trump with Hitler is a joke? Because I don't think for one second that David thinks it is a joke.

If you can provide a quote from Maher where he criticizes the joke, please provide it.
