But that whole bit was stupid. In fact, I think Paul Ryan should be embraced by Democrats, as he's a "team player" and not there to stonewall everything like the Republicans have been doing for the past seven years.
I think it was more that he couldn't even applaud when Obama said positive things that anyone should agree with. As he pointed out, even Nancy Pelosi applauded for many of the things GW Bush said.

The partisan petulance seems childish.

I dunno. I thought he was sitting there and not drawing attention to himself. Biden's face reminded me of my cocker spaniel (or Steve Carrel's face on the 40 Year Old Virgin poster). I can put myself in his shoes, and it's be really awkward to sit there the whole time in-camera and not look stupid.

I don't think Paul Ryan has a resting douchebag face. I guess it's up to the viewer. It's like the "smug Obama" image that was posted everywhere for the past seven years. You know, the one where the photographer caught Obama blinking. So smug!!!

Re: Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO) - Series Discussion Thread

I dunno, I thought Biden was way more outta line than Ryan...

Biden Urges Paul Ryan To Check Out Nude Scene From ‘Porky’s’ On Phone
‘Get A Load Of This’

WASHINGTON—Leaning toward the Speaker of the House during the State of the Union address and holding up the device, Vice President Joe Biden reportedly urged Paul Ryan to check out the nude shower scene from Porky’s on his smartphone Tuesday. “Hey Paul, you gotta get a load of this,” said Biden, who gestured for the GOP congressman to take a good look at the video clip from the 1981 sex comedy, the audio of which, sources confirmed, could be faintly heard beneath the sound of the president’s address. “Can you believe the rack on that one? That is a grade-A set of hooters right there. You can even see some bush. Man, they sure don’t make locker room scenes like this anymore.” At press time, Biden reportedly offered a bottle of Lubriderm to Ryan before proceeding to pump a large quantity of the lotion into his own palm.

Re: Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO) - Series Discussion Thread

1/29/16 Episode

I guess anyone can have a bad day, but Bill's solo guest at the top of the show was "Doctor" Samir Chachoua, an Australian doctor who appeared on Dr. Oz saying he "cured" Charlie Sheen of HIV with goat's milk. Supposedly, doc was so confident in his treatment he injected himself with Charlie Sheen's blood. Charlie Sheen subsequently came to his senses and went back on antiretrovirals, but that doesn't stop Bill Maher from giving this quack a platform. Very disappointing. I really hope no one is adversely affected by this.

Rather than get into a blow by blow, I'll just link to Gawker's article on the subject.

Ew, Gawker, gross... Do you have another, more reputable site, that makes a similar case against the Doctor's "cure"?

I won't know what you personally find reputable, so I'd suggest you Google his name and pick based on your own personal criteria. There are plenty to choose from. I have no reason to disagree with what was written on Gawker, especially because most of it is easily verifiable via other sources. It does look like many/most write-ups are on the "gossip" side of things (deadline, people, etc.), but that's about the level of attention this sensationalistic wonder "cure" deserves. I suspect hard news sites won't cover it much unless people start dying from it. I really hope that doesn't happen.

That was straight up quackery, and I'm also surprised Maher gave him airtime.

Although he redeemed himself at the end of the show by showing a clip of Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death

I like Bill Maher, but his anti-science bent has been on display for years.

It's not that simple. He's constantly getting on republicans for being anti-science. In his own mind, I'd say he's pro-science, but somewhat anti-establishment. He has a healthy skepticism of drug companies as he thinks they are out only for profit and not health. I get that. But this was way too far, IMO. In fact, I'd call it irresponsible.

I'm a big fan of Bill Maher, but I would say this statement is spot on.

Yeah, I don't get PJ O'Rourke. He's not funny or insightful.

PJ O'Rourke has been embarrassed by the GOP for the last 10 years or so, but he can't come out and say it. And yeah, he's never been funny or particularly astute.

Bummer I was looking forward to Moore being on tonight. Hopefully he gets better and can reschedule for later in the season.

I disagree with him a lot, and he's kind of an ass, but I enjoy his appearances on Maher's show. Always a must-see for me. Haven't watched the show from tonight yet.

His last appearance was just a pure embarrassment. He thinks he has to make every comment funny, but he hasn't been funny since leaving National Lampoon magazine.

You ought to post the article in the politics forum.

Anyway, good article but not "blistering" by any means. I guess, unless you don't know Bill Maher.

My favorite quote from the article:

"Republicans hate government, but they want to be in it. Right away, that's not a good formula for success. They love, love, love America — it's the greatest country in the world and I will kill anyone who dares say different! — except when a Democrat is in office, and then it's an unlivable shithole."

So true.
