TVGO: Why was the episode featuring guest star Ethan Hawke — originally slated to air after the Super Bowl — delayed until Feb. 2?
Abrams: It's an incredibly strong episode, but the story didn't address some of the things that the episode following the Super Bowl needed to address. Basically, we wanted to feature all of our characters in a way that would allow a mass audience of new viewers who had never seen the show before to really get a taste of who is who and what the show is about in a larger sense.
TVGO: So, it won't affect continuity?
Abrams: No. We never would have done it if it would have been a bizarre reverse thing. We made the choice early enough so that creatively, it fit perfectly.

And I'm sorry to keep nit-picking (because I really did like the show)... but was Sydney crashing the airplane in what looked to be a residential area (there were houses in the background after Sydney hopped out of the plane)... or at least near a residential area... the best way to handle things? It was cool as hell, but geez. I guess it's one way to erase any evidence that she was on the flight.

Holy Mary Mother of God! I cannot believe this episode! Simply amazing.
(too bad I had to wait until after ABC and the local sports show post-Super Bowl programs - an extra damn hour, but it was worth the wait.

I was wondering
Could someone please re-acquaint me w/ K-directorate, please? Is that who Irina (Syd's mom) and Sark worked for? I only saw a few eps last season and I am pretty sure I have only missed one or two this year, but I can't remember what the K-directorate is for certain. Thank You.

Enjoyed it quite a bit. But for someone watching for the first time it was really not that easy to follow. I still think ABC should and could rerun all the episodes on ABC Family.
Jennifer Garner is hot but she also has a presence that makes it more than just waiting for the next shot of her undressing. But I'm still looking foward to the next time she does.
Some of you seem kind of harsh to people who are just tuning it for the first time and maybe don't get it yet. That doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
Bottom line is with all the ads from the Super Bowl, I felt the need to finally sit down and try to watch the show and it was well worth it. I think that ABC probably brought a whole lot of new viewers to the show tonight. Whether people stay or not, you never know. If Star Search can whoop Ed, I can't figure what people are thinking anymore.

They were also after the Rambaldii artifacts last season and they had Anna Espinoza, who was played by Gina Torres from Firefly, who was their version of Syd.
Whatever I missed I'm sure someone will fill in

Man, I knew the episode was gonna be big, but that last bit COMPLETELY threw me off. And I agree, I think Irina has a big part in it. JJ seems to like doing this - dropping a character for a few months so that you forget about him/her, and then reintroduce them in a signifcant role that you would've never imagined them in because you hadn't seen them in so long.

- the ups and downs of Sydney & Vaughn's relationship (still, that kiss was ridiculous)
- Sark's rivalry and now alliance with Sloane
- Sloane's conflicts with the Alliance and how tonight's events looked to be a definite resolution to them
- Sydney and Dixon's relationship
- Sydney's relationship to Danny Hecht, Will, and Francie
and I could probably keep on going. To them, tonight's episode was a chick walking around in lingerie, that dude from Titanic/Sleepless in Seattle (fixed!) getting tortured, and standard SWAT-going-gangbusters-into-an-office-building fare that concluded with that lingerie chick swapping spit with one of her CIA buddies.

Good episode but you can tell they were over explaining things for the people that hadnt watched it and was it me or did they change the music during the show. It sounded like cheesy spy movie music.
Good last scene with Francie. Hmmm.
Maybe she might actually have something to do on the show now>?

I don't agree with it, but I guess I can understand it. To people who are emotionally invested in the characters of the show and the show itself, tonight's episode was huge. But people who are turning in for the first time have no idea about

But, I don't know if it's just an emotional investment. I think it's the lack of respect that these networks have for the fans that are watching. [I mean, really now...when are they going to fix the way the Nielsens work?] And then to casually dismiss a show's "low ratings" as being the result of having to do "hard work" [which I suppose shall furthermore be known as the "Hammer Defense"] is ridiculous. How hard could it be to go to a site like the one ten41 listed and read a synopsis of past eps? Granted, they might not pick up every little nuance...but it's more than ABC is willing to invest during valuable "Bachelorette/Celebrity Mole" air time.

So now what? People jump on tonite...
What happens in the future when references to the past are made? Will we be getting another "Very Special Lingerie Episode" of Alias? [with Nametags

Yeah, the kiss was really cheesy. In fact, much of the episode was pretty cheesy. I loved the plot developments, but the execution just lacked the delicate style that we're treated to each week. I hope that's just a side effect of trying to pack a lot into one episode and retain new viewers at the same time and that we'll be back to normal next week.

That's seems to be a form of television show snobbery. "It's mine and not yours." I highly doubt that ABC or any other show or network thinks after a year or so (or even 2 or 3) that potential new viewers are only going to go and read episode recaps to capture the emotional connection they've missed in past episodes.
I've only followed one show from day one that has been a huge hit over the past decade and that was the X-Files. I never had a problem with the show re-explaining itself or making an effort to "soften" itself to bring in new viewers as the X-Files did for the movie.
If the "loyal" viewers of the show were the only interest of the writers, producers, and the network than the X-Files would never have grown after season 1, season 2 at most. And seasons 3 and 4 were probably the best and highest rated. So I think it was ended up being good for the loyal viewer, the new viewer, and the network.
I am not trying to act like I have any idea of what was different about this episode from ones past or mean any disrespect to those who do know more or felt this episode was too gratuitous in exploiting Jennifer Garner's appearance or making relationships more palatable for the new viewers. But it seems like a minor inconvenience if it helps the show grow a larger core audience who, likely, will grow to be as fond of the charcters as you are.
I think the "hot chick" was just an actress that had been on Felicity to everyone else before the show aired. To the new viewers who might have tuned in to see the girl in the lingerie, after enjoying, understanding, and catching up (which will require reading recaps, watching future episodes, and learning from people who have been with the show from the start), she'll be the same complex Sydney (who just happens to look wonderful in various states of undress) as she is to you.

Actually, ABC Family did have an Alias marathon last year. That's how I first got into the show. I originally didn't watch it int he beginning, but the marathon allowed me to catch up.
I agree, though, it probably is time for another one.
I didn't mind the kiss, but could have done without the earlier cheesy dialogue from Vaughan. Everty time he tries and talk to Syd about his feelings, he sounds as if he is reading from a greeting card. There was an earlier scene this season thatwas also cheesy.
I had been wanting Syd to tell Dixon the truth about SD-6 for so long that it seemed somehow anti-climactic the way she finally did.
SD-6 is normally so tight on security, how was Dixon able to just send that email all nonchalantly? I guess Rutger Hauer was too busy torturing Jack to notice they were about to get raided.
I really liked the ending with Francie.
