I liked this episode more than I did last week's, but I'm bothered by Avon and McNulty acting out of character. When Bunk bails on Jimmy, you know he's gone too far. I don't like where McNulty's character is heading at all, and in retrospect think that he peaked at being 'good police' in Season 4. Avon? No way he so easily helps Marlo become the king without serious incentive. And 100 large to his sister ain't it...
Other than that, it was a good episode. I wonder what will come of Michael's questioning of Marlo's decision. I also like all the political stuff involving Carcetti, Davis, and Commissioner Burrell. I think the biggest thing I'm waiting for is for Omar to be tested. As great an anti-villain as he is, I wouldn't mind seeing him fall either.
Someone above said there was only 8 more episodes left. Is this a 10 episode season?

Who knows where this storyline with McNutty will go. I can't imagine it'll be successful given the fact that he changed the crime scene (most notably the position of the body) knowing that the "beat cop" was first on the scene and has to write on it in his report. Earlier in the ep though, at the bar, McNutty did say something to the effect of, "...there has to be some way to get them to turn on the faucet...".
Does anyone have any idea what Freamon was listening to on his stakeout? It sounded like a live recording and I'd love to have it.

Hopefully the greatest show in the history of television will finally get its due and win the Emmy award for Best Drama.
I am seriously getting tired of aweful shows like Grey's Anatomy and Boston Legal getting legitimacy and shows like Deadwood and The Wire getting ignored because networks have their lapdogs who vote for those shows.

If it didn't win an Emmy for season four then it's never going to win an Emmy. Honestly, I was holding out hopes last year for the Golden Globes because they have more limited voting, but it didn't even get a nomination there either.

First, great episode. The Wire proves yet again why it is so awesome. Bunk's reaction to Jimmy was so perfect....that is what separates good writers from bad ones. This yet another example of The Wire showing everything that was going on without it getting too long. I also really like where the fabricated story plot is going. Someone needs to speak out the total lack of integrity in the media today.
Second, The Wire doesn't win Emmys for a number of reasons. The cast isn't pretty. You have to watch a whole season to "get it". The subject matter is not a cookie cutter one. Visually, it isn't a stunning show (but if you look it for what it is try to portray it actually is). And of course only a few people know about it. However, that is not to say that shows like Grey's and Boston Legal are bad. Grey's does tend to get very heavy handed with things...and Boston Legal tends to show only one side of an issue, but they are both very entertaining. But the Emmy voters (who I believe are like the Family Guy writers as shown on South Park) can't decide what they want. Sure Lost won in season 1, but season 2 was better (my opinion of course). So did they go with the times or did they actually get it right? When you are trying to cater to the audience watching the awards, the real winners get thrown aside. It's a shame, but that is reality.

+ Bigwig editor: “If you leave everything in, soon you’ve got nothing.” And to the notion of explaining complicated stories and themes to readers: “Who wants to read that?” While it’s true that Simon has one or seven axes to grind with journalism and certain newspapers, you can’t say the guy is wrong. Everybody in this business has seen an editor like that. Or more. And remember, the whole point of Season 5, according to Simon, is that if everything the series illuminated in the first four seasons is true, then why hasn’t anyone noticed or fixed it. The onus, he says, falls on the press, which is where we find ourselves in Season 5.

Looks like Snoop has an Autobigraphy, I would think it could be interesting to read.

Let me just say...BARLOW IS BACK! His disappearance bothered me...he was in the first episode and seemed like he'd be a staple, but he never returned....until now.
Also, can't wait to see Omar whoop some ass.

Wow. This was a great episode. Far better than the premiere. Seeing Avon back brought a smile on my face.
I was concerned about the newspaper angle with the first episode, but after this one I firmly believe this will be better than the school plot from last year.
That drive by scene was classic Wire. "Fuck those West-Coast niggas".

Oh yeah, I liked the Six Flags stuff, mainly because I used to go to that one with my friends back in the day. Interesting that Michael didn't know where Fairfax was, guess that shows how much they are just a part of one city.

Loved all the stuff in the precinct this week. McNutty trying to get his idiot coworker to remember his murder. Bunk getting increasingly frustrated. I'm with Bunk though; I can't believe Lester is going with the plan. My favorite scene had to be the patrol guys catching Jimmy though.
I think this season is going to get bloody, especially with Omar coming back. There are times I like Chris and Snoop, but that's just not right. Given his reservations I wonder if Michael will survive the show.

Why does Prop Joe continue to school Marlo? He seems to setting himself to stabbed in the back or shot in the back by Marlo.
As for people acting out of character I don't know. Someone posted a link to blog about The Wire that pointed out that these characters have changed over the course of the series some gradually that we may not have noticed.
Watching this episode I wasn't too surprised that Lester went along with McNulty's plan. Lester to me just had that..."This just crazy enough to work." kind of look on his face.
One more thing I think its safe to say...IT"S ON NOW!!!!!
