Exactly the kind of thing CAV laserdiscs were made for.

Kinda like plastic. Yes, you can see it on the internet if you Google it, but there's always the chance of such a picture being fake- if you see it in the movie then you know it's the real deal.

I generally don't pause or back up movies when watching them but I make exceptions when it's something that makes me go "Whoa, did I really just see that?" My TV can store still frames also, so I've captured a number of noteworthy shots such as that.

If Criterion were still what they used to be, they'd develop a better step-by-step frame system for The Criterion Channel, but that's been quite disappointing overall- not even support for 5.1 sound.
