Lotta young marketing kids think they're onto something here. Wow that sucks.

Great, now you've spoiled the worst Super Bowl commercial for me.

I feel this is the complete opposite. This is lot of corporate bean counters, analytics experts and out of touch executives thinking they are being innovative and in touch with what the modern world wants. Similar to the people who brought us DIVX, the disposable EZDVDs, and Microsoft Songsmith

I'm actually passing on this, even with a free trial.

"It'll be like Vine or TikTok but with produced content and 10 minutes long!"

This whole thing reminds me of WIGS. Remember WIGS? Of course not.

I signed up for the 3 month free trial.

You have to enter your e-mail address in the main website and then go to your app store and pre-register for the app.

I have a casting app on my phone, which works pretty well, so when this does get released, I'll see about trying to cast the content to my TV.

they could always block that, sort of how the NFL does it with their mobile app

COVID-19 is the best thing that happened to this company. With everybody trapped at home, we'll be so desperate for ANY new content that some may even give this a try!

Me too. Without a TV app, I'm never going to use it.

The best (Twitter) comment I’ve read about Quibi:

“Shows I can take a dump to”

I saw that but considering it may take up to 3 years(!) for the T-Mobile/Sprint integration to be completed (I am a Sprint guy) it may be a long time before I can take advantage of this admittedly sweet offer.

To be fair, between Hulu/Netflix/Disney+ I am not lacking for content but if this gets offered to Sprint customers I will definitely sign up.

Looks like this is available now. I signed up for the free 90 days and then cancelled. It stays active for the 90 days still. I don’t see any way to cast it to my TV. I’ll maybe check out a few shows, but no way I’d subscribe to this regularly.

Did you sign up with iOS?

I got the notification as well. I also signed up for the 90 day trial. Looks like not everything is out yet. The Fugitive isn’t up. I see Sophie Turner’s show as well as Liam Hemsworth’s as the most notable dramas. I guess the rest will be out tomorrow.

I signed up for an Android notification and it’s not out on that yet.

re: Quibi Streaming service - RIP 4/6/20 - 12/1/20

Now available on Google Play store as well.

I skimmed around a little and watched the first episodes of a few different shows. 3 episodes have been posted for the shows I checked out.

Punk'd

Most Dangerous Game

Survive

The 1st episode of Punk'd was actually pretty funny.

Survive has Sophie Turner and looks like a YA suicide drama.

Most Dangerous Game had an interesting set up.

This is definitely formatted for only a mobile device. I have a casting app on Android phone and the app recognized it and disabled the video mirroring. So if you hate watching videos on your mobile devices, this is definitely not for you.

It does work on my iPad as well.

But this is definitely going to be a really tough sell to be get people to pay for it after be 90 days.

Is Reno 911 part of the initial batch? That’s the show that will get me to sign up.

I can't imagine anyone doing this subscription unless money wasn't an object to them. I suppose I will check out the 90 day trial - that's very generous. I assume it's so they can show investors "Look we have 3 million subscribers in our first month!" or something like that. Smoke & Mirrors. But in reality they should have made the service $2.99/mo or less to even have a chance. This price point is insane.

re: Quibi Streaming service - RIP 4/6/20 - 12/1/20

EW gave an early review of Quibi's content.

https://ew.com/tv/tv-reviews/quibi-s...id=31894275499

They gave 6 to watch and 4 to pass on.

And yeah they say at the current price point, it's not worth subscribing to. But for the free trial, why not?

They don't mention Flipped. I watched the first episode this morning with breakfast and it looks promising. Will Forte is always funny.

Not yet.

I only seen the first episodes but

The Punk’d revival was fun. Instead of a collection of segments with intros, it is just the segments only. I like this format better.

The Chrissy Teigen court show felt like it was missing a bit and was pretty quick in cutting the resolution. This format really kills the entertainment value of these kinds of shows.

Murder House Flip was the best concept of the ones I tried. My only gripe is that the full story is broken up over multiple episodes. Makes it hard to get attached to the (artificial) suspense from reality shows. I also don’t know if I want to continue to watch a program like this in this way. At least on YouTube, you can enjoy the entire episode without having to intervene and with YT Premium, no ads.

Also, there are ads before each episode.

I read that this is strictly for mobile devices only, so no casting on TVs or bigger screens. You can't play content on a laptop or desktop either.

May still snag that 90-day trial and then cancel, but I fucking hate watching content on my phone.

I’m gonna load it on my iPad so at least I have 9.7” of screen instead of my XR’s 6.1”. You also can not do any casting or Airplay whatsoever. Not even with Screen Mirroring to Apple TV.
