One of my friends asked someone there where they could get Song of the South and they were told to download it!
It was released legitimately on analog formats in Japan and the U.K.

I've had a couple conversations about Song Of The South, and they always start up when someone hears Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah. They try to place the song and think it's from Mary Poppins. A lot of people can sing the song, but they've never heard of Song Of The South.

I remember seeing it a few times as a kid in the early 70's. I saw it again years later on VHS while living overseas. I also remember music videos or short cartoons of it playing on TV, like the Disney Channel or Wonderful World of Disney.

I saw it as a kid and actually watched it again year before last. My parents live in the town Harris was born in, and the museum had copies of the DVD so they bought a copy a while back. I have no idea if they were bootleg or "special dispensation" or what, but we watched it on a visit. The animation was fun and the stories were entertaining, but yeah, the whole way the story was framed was very cringe-y to say the least.

Is SotS the only thing that Br'er Rabbit, Bear, and Fox are in? It's the one with the tar baby, right? If so I saw it a lot as a kid, I think I had a few books, maybe even those audio books with them in it.

I think remember seeing it as a kid. A bootleg ad was recently prominently featured here on dvdtalk, so I just saw it again. I’m just an old white guy, but I don’t see why they can’t release it with the standard disclaimers they use on other older cartoons with racist caricatures.

I assume they don't put it on there because they don't want to recognize it and they don't want rights groups making a big deal and forcing them to pull it down anyway.

Are there other cartoons on there with racist caricatures on that level, though? (I'll say this, they certainly don't make it easy to find crap on this service)

Well, it's not just the racist caricatures like the Crows in Dumbo (though those are pretty bad.) I think it's also the, pardon the choice of words, whitewashing of how slaves were treated on the plantations, both Uncle Remus and the others. Through most of the movie you might think Uncle Remus is a kindly campy counselor taking care of the kids in the daytime. They even call him Uncle.
Yes, the Tar Baby is one of the Br'er Rabbit stories, I think it's in the movie.
I'd be fine with putting it up with a disclaimer, but I'll admit my opinion on this matters much less than other people's who (justifiably) perceive the presentation differently.

I saw Song of the South in theaters but possibly not since then. If not for “Zipadeedoodah,” it might have vanished from memory by now.
I watched Treasure of Matucumbe the other day. All I remember from seeing in the theaters as a kid was the opening song, but I’d noticed it in DMR and always wondered about it. Glad I didn’t spend money on it, as it was a pretty mediocre kids adventure. Perfect title for streaming and satisfying my curiosity instead of paying money.
Also watched the 1960 Swiss Family Robinson, which is still pretty good light entertainment.

With all the theatrical postponements, I wonder if they'll give up on New Mutants and send it straight to Disney+.

I'd have to think that eventually some studio film is going to end up being moved to streaming if things continue like this for a prolonged period of time. Kind of like with the James Bond movie, it just takes one "big" player to finally make a move and others will follow suit.

I think their next expedited release will be Onward, it fell like a brick at the box office (-70% this weekend)
