I don't notice them much on Prime. Their Freevee stuff is awful about it though.

Watched Sicario, which is Prime, and that had 1 minute of ads to start but the movie itself had zero ad breaks (which I guess is unusual since the ads are supposed to be 2 minutes an hour or similar).

Watched Grown-ups, which is Freevee, and that had 0 minutes of ads to start, but had a total of 7 (!!) 2 - 3 minute ad breaks.

That said, they need to keep ads to the beginning of shows/movies and leave them uninterrupted for Prime users, cuz the interruptions are bullshit.

Doesn't look like it's going anywhere anytime soon:

Overall ad revenue rose 24% in 2023 compared with 2022, he noted, reaching $47 billion and the growth was “primarily driven by our sponsored ads.” Amazon has added Sponsored TV to the mix, giving advertisers a self-service option that will inject their messages into more than 30 streaming services, including Amazon’s Freevee and Twitch.

I'm curious what their numbers look like a year from now. It's probably a brilliant move because most people won't quit just over ads in videos but we don't know because the general thought is they lock you in for a year (even though they apparently allowed you to get out of it if you asked after this change)

Plus, the fact that most people who buy Prime do it purely for the advantages on purchases, not to access their streaming offerings.

Re: The Amazon Prime Streaming Thread

The ads follow the eyeballs. Linear TV viewing continues to crash and the ads and ad dollars have to go somewhere. Avoiding ads on streaming is only going to get harder and more expensive.

Re: The Amazon Prime Streaming Thread

I've been watching Columbo on Prime and the commercials have not been bad. I used to watch it on Peacock, but the damn Burger King commercials started to creep their way in. Hopefully the coast remains clear on Amazon.

I haven't watched any more today, but I finished ep 5 last night and no ads to that point.

Maybe that was a limited time thing? Hope not.

The truth of the matter is Amazon is purposely weeding out consumers who may not be as profitable for their business model.

Does anyone know how to permanently turn off Alexa notifications? I turn it off every other day. It magically goes back to on.

Is it a repeating notification and you're only turning it off every day?

Check the alexa app and cancel it there. Or say "alexa what are my notifications" to see a list and cancel any repeating ones.

Also there is a thread about the Amazon Alexa. This is about the streaming service.
To be fair, the device is actually called an Amazon Echo, and nobody calls it that.

These ads are a PITA.

Watching Outer Range, and there are ads at the beginning, as well as 2 ad breaks during the show.

FU Amazon.

I came here to post the same thing. Watching my first show on Amazon in a while (also Outer Range) and the ads are a nuisance. Of course there's a convenient button placed on the app to upgrade to ad-free for $3/mo.

Re: The Amazon Prime Streaming Thread

Have they changed the ad quantity? I don't use Prime Video a lot, but I've only ever had commercials before a program. Not at all during. Last thing I watched on there was Fallout.

I'm sure it's more than just changing it per show, they probably change it per person as well... they have so much info on you which is what makes their ad network a potential goldmine for them.

Oddly, I watched Death Proof on Freevee last night and there wasn’t a single ad.
