Is The Gift a movie that needs lossless? Been years since I’ve seen it, but it didn’t strike me as a title that would need lossless to enjoy it.

Siskel & Ebert turned me on to the film on their show. Here's Roger's review :

I watched some but am not sure if this five-day event is a sale or a guided tour through Vudu services.

It needs a proper 5.1 at the very least. Even the fucking DVD has it. I hate when streaming services do this but as Alan Smithee pointed it out -- that is was has been furnished by the studios. It's lame. I have the VUDU copy of Hedwig and the Angry Inch in stereo, when the DVD has the full 5.1.

If I'd have waited I could have used that 20% off coupon along with my $5 credit and buying 2 $2.99 movies would have been free instead of $0.98... LoL....

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

I used the 20% off code on seasons 1-5 of Babylon 5 (I won't call it "complete" because it doesn't have the movies etc.), which was already on sale, so $40 + tax.

I received the $5 off code for the first day, but nothing yet for the D2D or the "watch a free movie" offers.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

I ended up using the 20% for a season of Parts Unknown (Anthony Bourdain) to get it down to $7 which is where I wished all the seasons were at. On the $2.99 end, I snagged 4, Psych the Movie (since I don't have cable), He Never Died, Committed, and Beowulf. More than I probably should spend (also bought S1 of the Missing too)...but they only do something this nice once a year pretty much.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

Got Dice Season 1 for $5 since it still isn't on disc, and House of D for $3. That one's only 2-channel on Vudu but 5.1 on FandangoNow.

Fun fact: Map of the Human Heart was the last Scope movie to be released on laserdisc only in pan and scan format.

I picked up Super Mansion (a funny spoof of superheroes by the Robot Chicken staff) with the 20% off code.

Thoughts on how it looks? I'm so on the fence as I have the DVD's.

I did get the two additional codes, for 10 and 15% off. Both expire on 1/21/18. Because I rarely buy new releases, I'll try to use these in their year-end sale.

I just compared it with the flipper DVD I have of The Gathering and The Beginning because that was convenient. Both are SD fuzzy, but to my eye, the DVD looks a little better upscaled on PS3. This particular DVD is 4:3 while the Vudu is 16:9, but I believe the full-season DVD is 16:9.

So maybe not the ideal purchase, but I've been meaning to watch this for years (have started season 1 a couple times), and the convenience may help make it finally happen.

Thanks for the info...yes, make time for the show...it's one of the more rewarding shows as it goes on.

Me too, heck if I know what I'm going to use it for though. I guess we have a little bit of time, I think I saw 1/21 as the end date.

Yep, both 10 and 15% codes had 1/21/18 dates. I went ahead and spent them on bundles: 15% off the 14-film Hitchcock, and 10% off Rodgers and Hammerstein (my copy of Sound of Music--a single, not the deluxe box--is not D2D for whatever reason). I also did the two for $9.99 deal on When Harry Met Sally... and Definitely Maybe.

I know the rewards are there if I get through the first season. If I do and then want to explore the movies, those get interesting for digital purchases. I didn't see them at all on Vudu, and Xbox has them as "episodes" of a movie collection for $1.99, or you can purchase Legend of the Rangers as a "movie" for $14.99.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

Sweet, finally picked up S4 of Strike Back. $11.99 isn't terrible since nobody here was selling the code.
Anyone watch Quarry? How is it?

Quarry is no Banshee, but I thought it was worth watching.

Quarry is great, but a bummer that it got canceled after just 1 season.

Re: The VUDU Thread - News, Bargains & UV Codes

So Vudu has an interesting sale on Buffy The Vampire Slayer Complete Series for $29.99 today:
https://www.vudu.com/movies/?CID=Ema...content/907940

It's in SD, but interestingly it's also 8 Seasons. It's the complete seasons 1-7 of the live-action series, but then it includes "season 8" as a motion-comic version of issues 1-19 of the comic that takes place after the end of the show. None of the original actors came back to voice the characters for the motion comic. Also, the motion-comic is only 12 minutes per episode/issue.

Yeah, the HD version has a lot of issues with it. It's only been shown on cable TV so far, although I think Netflix for a while had SD 16:9 versions, which had their own issues. There's a Facebook page dedicated to documenting all the issues with the HD version:
