That article is a long read, but it details how Netflix's lavish spending is probably biting them in the ass now.

I watched it. I thought I posted in the thread but I guess I didn't. I thought it was fine.

I’ve held onto Netflix since I signed up over ten years ago and it’s easily my least watched streaming service. I’m in the minority I know, but I’d prefer less of their made for TV movies. I’d rather watch older tv series and catalog titles.
I can’t even finish over half the Netflix original films I start.
I think once Ozark and Stranger Things are over, I’ll reassess my need for Netflix.

I just canceled my subscription. It has nothing to do with password sharing, as I don't do that. It had everything to do with there not being a whole lot my family was interested in. For reference, the only other streaming platform we have is Disney+. I think the last thing I truly enjoyed on Netflix was Teenage Bountyhunters, and that got canceled after the first season.

I'll sign up periodically if something new is added, but for the first time since like 2004, I'm not going to have netflix on a month to month basis.

I think I'm right behind you. It's easily my least watched streamer. I've been contemplating the move for a while, but seeing so many others also dropping is spurring me on to do it.

No reason to not cancel every few months and sign up for a month or two just to catch up.

Since I watch TV everyday, I try to watch Netflix at least once a day. That could be a quick 15 minutes of stand-up comedy, 1 hour documentary, or 2 hour movie.

I supplement the other TV time with Hulu Live or Disney+.

My point being, I try not to let a couple days go by of skipping Netflix.

Still worth it for me and I get the 4K subscription. But as the story about Stranger Things goes, 30 million per episode is ricockulous.

Yeah I wound up keeping mine for the time being, Russian Doll Season 2, and Stranger Things S4 and Umbrella Academy S3 around the corner made it worth it for now.

I'll re-assess once the password sharing complications come up.

Man I just want someone to adapt Bone and do a great job... as does Jeff Smith. It's such a great property, maybe someday.

Me too about catalog titles and older tv shows.

Even with an extended watchlist (which we never seem to use), we're likely to cancel once Stranger Things is over. I'll print out our watchlist to pdf so we still have it for any possible future time.

What would get us to stay is a single stream affordable HD or 4K plan. Why pay for dual or quad streams when we only use a single stream. The other thing could be an annual plan that further reduces the cost of that single stream.

Just too many other sources for content that we are using now to justify paying what we pay for Netflix as it's become our least used service.

I probably watch Hulu less than any other streamer, but I agree Netflix is now overpriced for what it offers. I do like a lot of the true-crime docs they come up with, but their original films and series are more miss than hit these days.

Never would have I ever guessed that we would see the day that people are now thinking that Netflix is now too expensive.

I know times have changed and the average joe doesn't have the time to sit and watch everything that Netflix puts out with other streamers and other things to do in the day. I think we're also seeing now that many are starting to become more frugal with their disposable income.

I do agree that the 4K UHD add-on cost is bullshit even though I do pay for it which makes my cost $19.99/month.

I'm surprised Netflix hasn't really changed their model of binge releasing their series. Most of the competition has moved to weekly episode drops. And it seems a natural way of sustaining interest. There is a big anticipation of something like Stranger Things or Ozark. Then we binge them in a weekend and forget completely about them. And complain that there's nothing to watch. As much as I like binging, there is something to be said about looking forward to next weeks episode and having time to digest the current one.

Agreed. Even a 3 at a time model like they did with Arcane would be better for them.

Seems it would be easier to produce just one episode at a time also, and adjust the further episodes depending on the reactions to the current ones.

Not sure if this is tongue in cheek but that sounds like a terrible idea. Maybe shoot a pilot and air it like Amazon was doing for a while but producing one episode at a time for a non reality show seems super expensive and would tick people off even more if it just shortened the time to get cancelled.

so if one episode was great and got great reactions, you think we should wait weeks or months for them to produce another episode? c'mon now, this can't be a serious post. And, that's coming from someone who is the king of ludicrous posts.

OK, I meant however they do shows that air weekly on TV. They don’t shoot an entire season at once, with all episodes completed when the first one airs, do they?
