You know, I have always been DD's biggest defender. I have turned on countless friends and co-workers to the site and their sale (one owns his own DVD rental store so spends thousands there). I've always said that good prices and free shipping was worth the wait.

Now I'm not so sure. I don't care if it is free shipping. For the size of my orders many places offer free media mail shipping. Free shipping does not down grade the postal service bellow it's slowest pace (i.e. media mail). I would understand if they had slow shipping because in order to cut costs they used a smaller warehouse force or because a massive sale (like this one) clogged up the works. That I would get. I just hate the fact that I get an email letting me know that my DVDs "shipped today" and yet it takes 3-4 weeks for it to arrive. There is no way even media mail should take half that long.

Basically, DD, don't lie to me. It did not ship "today". Send me an email when it actually ships not when you put my order in your shipping department’s massive queue.

I know I'm going to get the standard, "If you don't like it, don't shop there" replies here. That's bullshit, though. I'm a paying customer and I have the right to complain.

I've always thought that, but there's really no way to prove it, since ya can't track it, however media mail shipping has been a bit slower than usual lately, but DD media mail shipping is unusually slow. I don't think DD is the only one, but when stuff "ships" from DD, (my opinion) it means your credit card is charged, they've picked your stuff, put it in a box, put the label on it and it's sitting on a skid waiting to be picked up. But that doesn't mean it's picked up *that day* - I think it sits (however long) until it's the cheapest (X number of skids, whatever it is). I think Amazon is the same way with free shipping, however they "delay" shipping it (I think 5 days) but you ultimately receive the email on the day it goes out (not sure exactly how it works /w Amazon - I've been a prime member for Amazon for over two years, so I don't remember how long free shipping works(, unlike DD where you receive the email it goes out and it may not actually leave for a few days.

Man, I hear ya. I placed two orders on June 10th. One with SecondSpin.com (3 items) and the other with DDD.com (2 items). I used the occasional 20% off + free standard shipping code at SecondSpin and (of course) DDD has their 20% off sale going on. I recieved my SecondSpin shipment exactly 7 days after placing the order. DDD? Well, I still haven't gotten it. Some might use the cheap prices, 20% and the fact that DDD's stock is NEW and not USED, but that should have nothing to do with the shipping. In fact, i'd say SecondSpin went above and beyond because, besides the free shipping, this might've been a glitch and not something "official" like DDD's sale.

I don't know, man..

I know it sounds like a cop out, but the truth is that the most effective way of getting a company to change is by not giving them your business.

A lot of people here complain about DD, but yet the sale threads usually reveal quite a few haters still ordering. That's not going to change DD's ways.

Could media-mail shipping be taking longer because of high fuel prices?

It would make a lot of sense for them to reconfigure their routes and procedures in order to minimize fuel consumption; especially for their cheapest rates. Which would most likely mean that they're letting packages sit at hubs until they can fill up trucks, using different -- and possibly slower -- routes to get from point A to point B, and running fewer trucks.

I don't think so. I just shipped something Media Mail and it only took 3 or 4 days to get to the East Coast from Iowa. DD definitely sits on the shipments before they go out.

I had two orders during the B1G1 sale they had before this sale. They were both shipped out on different days and they both got here the second day of the estimated arrival dates.

The next week I place an order on the first day of the sale and it was supposed to show up during the end of last week but I'm still waiting.

Don't they know who I am?

I gave up on them after I was repeatedly lied to and nearly had $50 stolen from me.

Did you post the story somewhere? Sounds interesting. I'm intrigued.

Got my stuff finally. I still plan on doing business with them. It's not like there's a business out there that hasn't ever made anyone unhappy or pissed off or made mistakes. Businesses are run by people too. Except for Microsoft of course.

It does appear the USPS is changing their practices a bit. I didn't get my packages and then I got a note saying I had two packages at the post office. Maybe they are trying to make peopel go pick things up rather than drive it over to them?

That was the first time this ever happened for packages I didn't have to sign for (which I did not on these)

I guess the flooding is messing with the shipping

We do apologize for any delays, as we were notified from the USPS that many post offices are closed and re-routing deliveries. This is due to the Midwest flooding and the surrounding areas. Many of the transportation routes have been affected as well. Our facility is located in IL, just outside of Chicago, and is an affected area as well.

I started a thread about it, but I don't think I ever posted the continuation. The brief outline:

Ordered something from them
Did not ship as promised, tried to cancel, they refused, told me item would ship on X date
Item did not ship on X date
Disputed with credit card company
Item arrived
Dispute canceled because item arrived
Sent item back marked "return to sender" as per their instructions
Waited for refund
Waited some more for refund
Called and demanded refund, promised refund
Did not get refund
Called again for refund, told that they could not issue refund without proof that item was sent back
Finally got refund after I accused them of stealing from me

Liar! I saw you with a hooker a few nights ago.

On Topic: While I haven't completely given up on DD, this will be the first 20% sale for me where I didn't place any orders. I'm still waiting on one title I ordered from the B1G1 sale over a month ago.

Maybe I'm just getting old and cranky, but I find that saving a few bucks generally isn't worth the hassle anymore, when it comes to DD.

I'm not one of those instant gratification guys. If I can get it cheaper at DDD I'm willing to wait for it.

Ordered something on Friday. Got my shipment today after paying for 2-day shipping. It was delayed a bit longer than usual but I also usually put in my order the first day or two of the sale.

I too have stopped ordering from them, even during these 20percent off sales.

Just not worth the hassle and month long wait for product.

I would much rather pay a few extra bucks for a dvd and have it arrive in a timely manner.

My philosophy about ordering from DeepDiscount is the same as it has been for years and years: It's worth the wait to save some money. They've always shipped slowly to California, and it doesn't really bother me. Actually, the shipping during this sale has been a little faster than in the past.

Ive been waiting for a package I ordered on June 10 they said it was shipped out on the 12th and was suppose to be here no later than the 26th or they would send a replacement called today to get replacement and was told I have to wait 10 more days for a replacement. I order to more dvds that was mailed on the 18th. I have never waited this long when ordering from them they should put on the site that its going to take alot more time to get packages to us. Otherwise I wouldnt even placed my orders. I just hope if they ever show up they are fine and not damaged. DVD buyers beware.

I placed an order with DD on the first day of their 20% sale.
One week later, I placed an order with DVDPlanet's 20% sale.
The DVDPlanet order arrived today.
I'm still waiting for my DD order.

And you can pay a few extra bucks, have it arrive in a timely manner and still get a good deal out of it.

Free shipping isn't mandatory.
