NOT ANYMORE IT ISN'T ...

I guess with the NEW and revised Quote Machine it is now a problem sending in duplicate discs as I received an email saying they will not honor from me any future quotes with duplicate titles from previous quotes. (Seems they could have revised their quote machine to reject them from the start if they had wanted to.)

I do hope they honor the discs I have already sent in with quotes before their email today that have not yet been processed for store credit.

I really do not understand, if they are currently buying a certain title, why should it matter how many they buy from any individual who has that title in mint condition to trade for store credit?

We limit to one per person because it enables us to limit exposure. It would be unusual for a person to buy and open multiple copies of the same title I would think. I am sorry if you feel this is unfair.

We will be modifying the engine to reject multiple quantities from the same person in the near future.

Until you make that modification, I would think that DVD Planet would need to honor any quotes submitted and accepted via the quote machine's confimation emails. What is unfair is for DVD Planet's Quote Machine to accept a quote, ask that it be sent in to DVD Planet within 30 days, and then possibly decide to reject it after one has already spent the postage cost to mail the DVDs in good faith in exchange for store credit.

Also, it is not unusual for one to buy a DVD for a price that one can trade in for a few extra dollars in store credit.

Thank you for responding, but the policy needs to be clearly stated on the DVD Planet's web site, and the quote machine needs to be programmed to reject multiple titles in multiple quotes - that's where the problem is.

I do hope the quotes I have already sent in, and are awaiting processing, will be honored, as they were submitted to the quote machine and postmarked with delivery confirmation well before the DVD Planet email of today. A response to this would be appreciated.

Do remember that the folks @ DVD Planet WILL put your discs through a very intensive examination. One hairline mark that resembles anything like a scratch will be rejected... or so they claim that to be the reason.

I'm a pretty avid collector and keep my dvds in top notch condition. I've sent some via the qoute machine and quite a few were rejected. DVDs are were never watched, some had tiny marks from loose shipping, slight print that easily came off, etc...

Sometimes I think they should call it "new disc quote machine". They forget that these are used discs. Now, I'm sure they get trashed dvds as well, but near-perfect dvds deserves a better evaluation.

I have not had tmy's experiance at all. I've sold several hundred dollars worth of DVDs to DVDPlanet, and the only ones that they've rejected had easily noticable scratches.

I, too, keep my discs in excellent condition, stored in a closed cabinet, etc. I just traded 20 or so movies and 6 were rejected - one of which was a gift that I had never even watched! They had those movies for over 7 days and I wouldn't be surprised if something happened while one of their employees were handling them. This is the last time I trade with dvdplanet.

I had two rejected which had never been handled or watched by me. Kind of disappointing. If they just don't want the titles, then don't put them in the QuoteMachine.

I've had some well-kept discs rejected as well, but I think it's a fine trade-off for knowing that any used discs purchased from DVD Planet will be in flawless condition.

Besides, I just sell whatever DVDs they reject to other websites with less stringent inspections.

I just sent in a batch of discs on Monday. I had generated a Quote last week and lost it. So I generated another quote with added titles, but also the same ones from the lost quote and shipped it with the discs. Will the titles on the original quote be rejected as a "double-dip" eventhough I never sent them in with the first generated quote?

they reject them because they don't want any more of that movie. I've sent in batches with pristine dvds and some with hairline scratches, the ones with the scratches they took yet some of the pristine ones they didn't. Mission Impossible being one, I'm guessing they already had a big enough stock of them. But hey at least they send them back if they are rejected.

I can assure you they don't just take pristine copies though. A few of my past dvdplanet used dvd orders came looking like complete garbage, for the most part the dvds are all in excellent condition but I have had a few where scratches were everywhere, there was still used sticker residue from a blockbuster on the case. One dvd someone even threw in a slim dvd case so all the artwork was ruined because it got folded and scrunched up, plus the disc was all scratched.

They are always willing to fix the problem when something like that arises though.

But it's the principal of the matter to me -- if it was accepted by the quote machine and you send in a pristine copy, they should hold up their end of the agreement. I send my DVDs by Priority Mail to them (I'm in Hawaii and media mail may not make the 30-day time constraint). It costs me about $9.00 to send in a flat-rate box, which is expensive enough without having anything rejected.

Back at the end of July I got a quote from secondspin when they had their brief 20% bonus offer. I held up shipping them off because I was holding out some modest hope that DVDPlanet's old quotes might still be in effect after they reactivated the quote machine. So as soon as I saw what the new quotes were, I sent off my box to secondspin because their quote was good for 45 days (from order placed to postmark date).
Yesterday I got an e-mail that all 28 titles I sent were accepted although for some reason 3 of those prices were reduced by a total of $2.80. They took a bunch of somewhat common titles that DVDP no longer would issue a quote on, authorized repayment for media mail charges without being asked to...and it was payment in check. I doubt that I'll be using DVDP to sell to in the future which is too bad as I buy a lot there.

Exactly. I spent money to ship those dvds. If they didn't want them because they have too many, the shouldn't even allow you to quote them.

I agree, I shipped Priority Mail and I expected them to hold to their quote like they have in my previous dealings with them.

I wonder if they specifically accept less than perfect used copies of titles they no longer have available in new stock. I've noticed a few titles that I was considering earlier were only available in used condition.
It definitely doesn't seem right to issue a quote and then not honor it because they may have received copies in the interim.

Here's a new question in regards to the new 'one dvd per household' rule. I recently had a few dvds rejected that I have 2 copies of. If I send my other copy to dvdplanet, and it is in good enough condition to meet their criteria, will they take it, or does my rejected dvd count as my 'one dvd per household'?

Mark, you may be the only one that can help answer this.

Was your copy pristine and without visible scratches? If the quality was not the issue then it appears as though they are now rejecting discs after a certain small number have been accepted and not honoring quotes once that level of inventory has been reached.
The DVDPlanet people will have the final word.

While, I agree with you on principle that if the quote machine allows you to add the title and it is in acceptable condition it should be accepted (I too ship Priority Mail), legally speaking DVDPlanet is doing nothing wrong. Technically, the Quote Machine price-listing is a solicitation of an offer and the prices are the prices they will likely pay. In other words, when you send in your discs you are offering to sell them to DVDPlanet at the prices on the Quote Machine list. This is annoying because with shipping, we are paying to make an offer to DVDPlanet that they can/sometimes reject. While they do ship them back to you if rejected, I assume they use media mail, which if you used it also would seem to negate the economic inequity of the offer/rejection, but when you use Priority Mail it seems less fair (although if part of the order is accepted it would be in your benefit to avg. the cost of shipping over the ammount of discs to find out if you actually "lost" anything on shipping). I suppose equity would be maintained if we all shipped our discs to them via media mail, but hey, who wants to wait that long to receive credit? We all have dvd's to buy

I can't stand Media Mail. I shipped my first three quotes via Priority Mail only because DVD Planet only offered a PO Box. A few months ago Mark provided a street address and so I shipped my discs via FedEx Ground which is very close in pricing to Media Mail. Once you are over two or three pounds, FedEx Ground is cheaper than Priority Mail (unless you use the flat rate box). With built in tracking, cheap insurance, and free online accounts I have been very pleased with FedEx Ground.

It appears to me that DVDPlanet has revised their policy on used discs since the "quote machine" returned. Prior to that it sounds as if they honored their quotes as long as condition terms were met. Now it looks as if they have advanced inventory software that will reject everything once they have reached an unknown "comfort level" that is based on previous sales figures for that title. Guess it makes economic sense to me but I also can see that the results fail to meet individual expectations.

What's the general time frame for this process anyway? I simultaneously sent packages full of pristine quality DVDs (many still new/wrapped) to both DVDPlanet and Wherehouse.com on September 3rd via media mail. On 9/18 Wherehouse sent a confirmation that all DVDs were accepted, shipping costs have been refunded, and my Paypal account was credited the very next day. I've yet to hear a peep from DVDPlanet.

I don't like how new releases aren't listed often in the new QM. I have a couple I know they would probably take (Commando DC and Beyond the Gates), but these and a ton of other new releases aren't in the system.
