Okay, I didn't see a Lost DVD thread and I didn't want to start one so I'll post this here. The DVD box set (coming 6Sept05) will have some new unaired flashback material and deleted scenes as seen in these ads from Video Business:

Probably at Deep Discount DVD for around 35% off ($38.89)

http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com/redir...fier=BVD039661

They might up their discount to 40% off closer to the street date.

Free shipping as always of course.

This was probably mentioned before, but the Lost site on ABC.com has a diary that's kind of interesting to read through. http://abc.go.com/primetime/lost/diary.html

"White Rabbit"
Jack is near delirious from lack of sleep and struggles to overcome the haunting events that brought him to Australia and, subsequently, to the island. Meanwhile, Boone gets caught in a treacherous riptide, the pregnant Claire's health takes a bad turn, and a thief may have stolen the last bottles of water.

Rainy day today, nothing going on, so I rewatched some past episodes. Something that I hadn't really given much attention to before...the idea of good and evil, white and black.

Locke tells Walt there are two sides, light and dark.

In Claire's dream, Locke has one black stone eye, one white.

Sawyer's glasses - one side is white, one black.

In one of the books Sawyer is reading - "Watership Down" - there is a character named General Woundwort, who has one black eye and one white eye.

The other book Sawyer is reading - "A Wrinkle in Time" - is about a family who goes searching for their father who, oddly enough, disappeared during an experiment he was working on for the government. The subject of the experiment? Fifth-dimension time travel.

And what happened to Jack's dad? He wasn't in the coffin...so where did he end up?

damn, not the coffin talk again...

was he ever even in the coffin in the first place? Is he a ghost? did the body fall out in the air?

personally, i think it was the former (as did many others), that he wasn't in the coffin to begin with; that his body was never put on the plane. The coffin was on just so they could have the funeral anyway. but others thought that was dumb. hopefully we'l find out.

"House of the Rising Sun"
Walt and the others are shocked when Michael is brutally beaten, but only the non-English-speaking Jin and Sun know the truth behind the attack. Meanwhile Kate, Jack, Sawyer and Sayid argue about where the survivors should camp — on the beach, where they're more likely to be seen, or in a remote inland valley where fresh water abounds; and Locke discovers Charlie's secret.

Ahh, but now it is a catch 22 now that there are bigger questions. It was the talk of the thread at the time, but if they give us the answer now, then the talk will be, "who cares" that is insignificant. They better show what is in the hatch in the first episode next season or I'm not watching.

With tonight's airing of "House of the Rising Sun," they have yet to skip an episode. I wonder if this will continue, and if so, they'll have to start doubling up some weeks.

i think it'll be explained as we get an answer to one of the bigger questions, possibly in an explanation of the "monster" or the whispers in the jungle..

Here's my theory (I'll spoilerize it just in case), and I think it explains quite a few things. Others may have already discussed this possibility, but I haven't seen it mentioned yet.

Spoiler:
I first started considering this theory when I saw the preview for next season. It says "they are not the survivors they think they are". I started wondering, what if this island IS some sort of lab experiment. BUT, it takes place sometime far into the future where we have the ability to clone people and simulate memory.

So, these people that we're watching, actually never survived the crash. What the experimenters did was they took the dead passengers' DNA and created clones of them with the same memories and placed them back on the island to see what they would do. Why? I don't know. Perhaps these people were important for some event of human history sometime in the future. Maybe it's just the first mass cloning experiment to see how accurately they are cloned.

I kinda like this theory because it explains a number of things. How Locke got his legs back (the clone never suffered the original injury leading to his paralysis). Why Jack's father was not in the coffin despite him remembering him being loaded (because Jack's father was not replicated).

I think things like the numbers that Hurley uses are crossover memories from something else - like maybe the ID number for their experiment, and so the numbers appear in everyone's memory (seat #'s, kate's bounty amount, lottery numbers, etc) in some form or another.

I kind of like that idea, but it just seems too "out there" for a network TV show with a mainstream audience like this.

Plausable theory, except for the fact that J.J. Abrams has said numerous times that the people on the island actually did survive the plane crash; that they're not dead. Of course he could just be lying to throw us off... OR it could be a kind of double talk, meaning that the people on the island are clones and THEY actually survived or something like that.

I would LOVE to see a commentary on every episode, but I know it will never happen. I hope JJ throws in a couple commentaries.

Just thinking, have they ever said what put Locke into a wheelchair yet?

Not yet. Which is another reason I can't wait for season 2. I'd assume that's one plotline they'll be addressing very early on in the season. The way the beginning of season one centered mostly on Jack and Kate I'm thinking (hoping?) season two's start will concentrate on Locke and Walt.

How many of us wouldn't have followed Locke around like Boone did? I know I would.

Good theory but as aktick said, I'll be shocked if a mainstream network will allow the producers to go this route.

How long has ABC been running the Oceanic-Air.com commercial? I caught it for the first time during Dancing with the Stars the other night.

Some additional thoughts:

Spoiler:
It also explains why someone took Claire's baby (baby mind/memory was not manipulated since it was still in Claire's womb at the time of the crash) and how Claire inexplicably escaped with the baby and shows up with just a few scratches, but with amnesia and confusion (mind/memory manipulation). Jack's father appearing could have been a flashback - an aftereffect of memory manipulation - since Kate did not see his father even though, she was in the same vicinity as Jack. The whispering heard by Sayid could either be the scientists, or it could be a hallucination (again, explainable as an after effect of mind/memory manipulation).

Some other thoughts regarding the why of this particular group of people: I'm wondering if maybe there was a crash just like this in the past, there were survivors and they did something or accomplished something that no one in the future was able to replicate or explain. So scientists in the future recreated the same conditions to see what would happen or how they did whatever they did.

Orrrr...maybe this group of people CHOSE to go on this flight with the knowledge that it would crash. Bear with me here. They ALL seem to be running from something, right? What if they decided they wanted a chance to start over, so they agreed to be killed so that they could be cloned with a chance to start over in world where everyone who knew them would think they were dead. This is a theme that constantly comes up in the show - the clean slate.
