Not that you should have to buy the DVDs to see all eps, but if interested, it's only like $38 or something if you preorder it, for 7 discs.

I am going to go rent the DVD for Eps 12 and 13 as they are skipping them and going right to 14.
I never heard of such a thing.

I never saw Lost in it's initial run, and I tried watching the first season rebroadcast this summer. I found the show did not live anywhere near up to the hype. I gave up after about five or six episodes. The show had too much of a made-for-TV movie of the week production feel for one thing. The plot was interesting at first, and then quickly moved into typical soap-opera fare. The characters were derivative, and the twists were mostly predictable and uninteresting.
Now when I hear the show's hype I can't help but think of this exchange from "Mystery Men":
(They discuss The Sphinx (Lost)):
The Shoveller: Yeah, I've heard of this guy. He's a big crime-fighter down east.
Mr. Furious: What's his power?
The Blue Raja: Well, he's terribly mysterious.
Mr. Furious: That's his power, he's mysterious?
The Blue Raja: He's TERRIBLY mysterious, actually.

thought I'd post this..might be the first 'review' of the dvds for season 1 ...
from this weeks Home Media Retailing magazine. (Aug 7-13)
from this weeks Home Media Retailing magazine. (Aug 7-13)
It was pitched as “Cast Away: The Series.” Its writers mapped out six years of stories in 30 minutes. And almost every male actor who ended up on the show auditioned for the part of Sawyer.
Such are a few if the tidbits revealed in the extensive bonus features on the first-season set of “Lost,” about airplane-crash survivors living on a mysterious island. The 25 episodes are in widescreen and spread over the first six discs.
The pilot and other key episodes have commentary tracks from creative personnel and the actors central to the particular episode’s flashback story. The commentators divulge a lot of information while still taking a nostalgic look back at the show, pointing out how seeds for future storylines were planted early on. In some instances, they use a branching feature that lets them pause the program and show a clip of how a scene was made while they discuss it.
One of the running gags that pops up in the commentaries is the speaker offering to reveal key secrets, such as the nature of the monster that inhabits the island. They don’t spill the beans, although Jimmy Kimmel discovers he likes cookies in a funny segment from his late-night talk show, which is included on the seventh disc, “The Essential Lost.”
The work that went into creating the show and filming the pilot is detailed in “Departure,” which chronicles how a Star Wars t-shirt solidified a collaboration that would produced one of the most popular series of the past season, and how co-creator J.J. Abrams pulled it all together.
Other featurettes tell behind-the-scenes stories of particular episodes and explore the fan phenomenon that began before the show even aired.
The disc includes 15 deleted scenes and audition tapes for most of the regular cast. There are also a blooper reel and an amusing Q&A session the cast and writers conducted at the Director’s Guild.
Fans of Easter eggs will find a few hidden features, such as an alternate main title sequence.
The best part of the set, however, is being able to take another look at an Emmy-nominated show that has a good mix of drama, humor, and mystery, before its second season debuts Sept. 21.

So, not much talk about Lost lately...the DVD comes out next Tuesday.
Go to http://www.oceanicflight815.com/ and go to "Explore." The first two white dots at the bottom are neat, but nothing really new. But the third dot...if you click it, and keep clicking different dots to view different clips, eventually you come to a preview from the season premiere. It's only a minute, but it's a dandy, and may be a bit of a spoiler, though not really.
If you are really lazy, you can just go to www.lostlinks.net or click here for a Real Media file.

Two weeks until the season premiere...if anybody is interested and haven't seen them, there are 2 good short preview clips of the premiere, might contain spoilers. Go to http://www.lostlinks.net , and click on "The Hatch Sneak Peak" and "Man of Science Man of Faith Preview." Should be an interesting S2 by the looks of it.

What if the island serves as a place of purgatory for these individuals? People "die" when their time has been served and they can move on. Things found around the island (the tunnel, etc.) are there to test each of the "survivors". This is an idea that me and a friend of mine discussed and probably isnt the case, but I just thought I would throw it out there.

I guess the purgatory idea is toast. I just got into the show with the dvd release. I'm not patient enough to watch it week by week but I guess I'll have to learn to be for season 2. I dont think I can hold out for a season 2 release to watch the show. I just hope all of these events are explained reasonably and not a big mish-mash of crazy, inconceivable and implausible happenings. I sure hope this Nano-Tech stuff is not the case. I heard so much about this crap while I was I debated in high school almost 15 years ago and it still hasn't come to fruition as so many debaters claimed it would in the "near" future.

.Anyways, dsa_shea, the show is indeed addicting. See my post (#168) about some previews for S2 if interested. Also, www.oceanicflight815.com and www.oceanic-air.com have some neat stuff worth your while, if you haven't already seen them.
