Re: "Scanners II: The New Order" Reviews/Discussion - 2013 Horror Challenge: Day 21

A fairly good sequel, though I still prefer the original. It's cool to see David Hewlett from Stargate Atlantis in an earlier role. The only thing earlier I have seen him in was the Friday the 13th...

Re: "Vampires in Havana" Reviews/Discussion - 2013 Horror Challenge: Day 20

An interesting look at how something that can better the masses is fought over by corporate factions, only to be foiled when the knowledge is given to everyone for free. Take that you greedy...

Re: "John Dies at the End" Reviews/Discussion - 2013 Horror Challenge: Day 19

Out of all the cool stuff going on in the movie, my favorite part was seeing Angus Scrimm again.

Re: "Return of the Living Dead III" Reviews/Discussion - 2013 Horror Challenge: Day 1

Having never seen it before either, although I love the first one, I thought the same thing about the cover art and the demonic connection. Probably why I never watched it.

With all the comedy...

Re: "The Caller" Reviews/Discussion - 2013 Horror Challenge: Day 17

He's just going to go all Cujo on her thinking, "I'm fracking starving, AND you put daddy IN THE WALL!"

Re: "Jack Frost" Reviews/Discussion - 2013 Horror Challenge: Day 16

This is like a mash up of Child's Play and Friday the 13th The Series. Shannon Elizabeth in an early role is fun until she gets "iced". Sorry, couldn't help it.

Re: "Let's Scare Jessica to Death" Reviews/Discussion - 2013 Horror Challenge: Day 15

The movie opens with a Last House on the Left or I Spit on Your Grave innocent type opening common in the early '70s. It has a slow, steady burn that begins to make the viewer doubt, like Jessica,...

Re: "ParaNorman" Reviews/Discussion - 2013 Horror Challenge: Day 14

Some of the character design is kinda quirky, but the story more than makes up for that. There is just the right amount of sugar coating on the deep moral satire to please the viewers of all ages.

Re: "Trilogy of Terror" Reviews/Discussion - 2013 Horror Challenge: Day 13

A watered down TV forerunner of Creepshow, the last segment of which would have made an excellent episode of The Night Stalker, and may or may not have influenced bits Child's Play, Puppetmaster,...

Re: "Severance" Reviews/Discussion - 2013 Horror Challenge: Day 12

I forgot to mention the, "A cow with gold fillings?" joke earlier. Too funny.

Re: "Severance" Reviews/Discussion - 2013 Horror Challenge: Day 12

That was funny. I also liked when the decapitated guy smiled when he realized he was right, and the truly dark OH CRAP moment when the rocket readjusted and locked on the airliner.

Re: "Severance" Reviews/Discussion - 2013 Horror Challenge: Day 12

Severance has some really redeemable moments that are countered by some really absurd plot mechanics. How they ended up at "the lodge", or how they are in a spot suddenly full of clearly visible...

Re: "Killer Tongue" Reviews/Discussion - 2013 Horror Challenge: Day 11

I just kept skipping all the software it wanted to add and then just played it on the site like YouTube. I haven't had any issues yet by just installing the player software.

Re: "Killer Tongue" Reviews/Discussion - 2013 Horror Challenge: Day 11

I actually had that one and took it off! Tongue did have that early, weird Peter Jackson vibe working.

Bagdad Cafe kept coming to mind visually during some of the exterior scenes for some reason....

Re: "Killer Tongue" Reviews/Discussion - 2013 Horror Challenge: Day 11

The recipe for this one is:
1 part Earth Girls are Easy, 2 parts Army of Darkness, 1 part To Wong Foo, 3 parts Lexx, 2 parts Peewee's Playhouse, 1 part Meet the Feebles, and maybe a pinch of...

Re: "Eyes of Fire" Reviews/Discussion - 2013 Horror Challenge: Day 10

http://stagevu.com/video/ykbtbhymqxpu

This seems to have a little better resolution.

The story would make a good campfire tale at night, and may or may not have influenced some of the book "The...

Re: "Shakma" Reviews/Discussion - 2013 Horror Challenge: Day 9

Re: "The Black Sleep" Reviews/Discussion - 2013 Horror Challenge: Day 7

Sherlock Holmes and Dracula's Howling Plan 9 for the Wolf Man. Back to back subset selections with a "living legends" cast. Watching the actors play their characters was more interesting than the...

Re: "The Lords of Salem" Reviews/Discussion - 2013 Horror Challenge: Day 6

Rosemary's Baby meets The Shining with some of that "don't try to make since of what you just saw" from Lost Highway or the end of 2001. I loved her apartment and all the other homages throughout...

Re: "The Town That Dreaded Sundown" Reviews/Discussion - 2013 Horror Challenge: Day 5

Gee Wally, why don't you just read me the whole screenplay while I enjoy the pretty moving pictures!

This had to have been influenced by Texas Chainsaw, but clearly was an influence on Friday...

Re: "American Mary" Reviews/Discussion - 2013 Horror Challenge: Day 4

Now if that wasn't a Rob Zombie directed movie of an adapted screenplay by David Cronenberg of a Clive Barker novel, I don't know what is.

Re: "The Reef" Reviews/Discussion - 2013 Horror Challenge: Day 3

I liked a lot of the underwater photography, but I have seen Jaws WAY too many times to get much else out of this one. Now if the movie just had sharks with frickin' laser beams, I might have been...

Re: "Don't Go to Sleep" Reviews/Discussion - 2013 Horror Challenge: Day 2

You know, just for a moment there at the end I thought they were wheeling Valerie Harper off to her padded room, pinning the whole thing on her and letting Mary off the hook. That would have been a...
