Re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - We're number 2, but we try harder

The late 90s/early 2000s was such a renaissance of new tech with everything from laptops, MP3 players, digital cameras, color printers that the general public just devoured everything in sight...

Re: Bonus material - Waste of time or do you like knowing more about the movie?

Even though I don't often look at all of the extras I'm glad they are included. The DVD/Blu-ray has always given viewers (and probably participants of the film) a sense of closure and completeness...

Re: 40th Anniversary of Alien - May 25

My first introduction to Alien was buying the bubble-gum cards in the candy aisle of the local convenience store when I was six.

Re: Movies with long sequences that feel like they could be part of a separate movie

The Friday the 13th remake had a pre-title sequence which ran for 23 minutes and had very little to do with the rest of the film.

Re: Spinal Tap 2 - in development. Reiner and the band returning.

In 2024 is there anything about an aging rock band that is really ripe for satire? Maybe have the band attempt to plan a low-budget tour using their inept ability to operate a cell phone? They book...

Re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - We're number 2, but we try harder

I suppose the license to use DTS HD Master and DOLBY TrueHD audio codecs is also an extra expense the DVD format didn't have to account for. Early WiFi-enabled Blu-ray players probably had to incur...

Re: R.I.P M. Emmet Walsh (1935-2024)

Roger Ebert once said “No movie featuring either Harry Dean Stanton or M. Emmet Walsh in a supporting role can be altogether bad."

Re: Alec Baldwin accidentally kills DP with prop gun, director shot as well

True but there are a lot of things which make insurance companies nervous such as blowing-up buildings, rolling-over cars, jumping six stories into an airbag, attaching explosive squibs under the...

Re: Alec Baldwin accidentally kills DP with prop gun, director shot as well

Are there instances where live ammunition is used on movie sets? What about scenes where characters are shooting empty beer bottles as target practice? A machine-gun shooting at an empty...

Re: Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire (2024, D: Kenan)

It's interesting movie theatres never really embraced selling movie memorabilia. In Canada during the late-1980s/early-1990s, the Famous Players chain had a "Famous Store" kiosk built into a few...

Re: Underage Drinking in Movies (and TV)

I'm sure the folks at Miller gave her a nice financial kick-back for that favour.

Re: Back to the Future Question-- Marty's memories

I agree this gets messy and it's best just to suspend disbelief and enjoy the emotional part of it rather than think too much about the technical side.

I always wondered what if George's new-found...

Re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - We're number 2, but we try harder

It would be interesting to know what license agreement existed between the studios and Netflix for content. The studios almost seemed to wave the white flag in the face of dwindling DVD sales and...

Re: Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F (2024, D: Molloy) S: Murphy -- Netflix

It's interesting to see the whole industry move to streaming where there's really no clear-cut definition of a hit film. With theatrical movies, success was measured by box office money, not numbers...

Re: Old show or movie you never watched when released but feel is too dated to enjoy

That's true, it is interesting from a historical perspective to see how the future was viewed but I still like "Sometime in the future..." because no matter when you watch it, it's always sometime in...

Re: Old show or movie you never watched when released but feel is too dated to enjoy

The lesson for futuristic movies is to never establish a specific date in the future. The only movie that could get away with that was Back to the Future II's version of 2015 because it was an...

Re: Ebay Rips Off Sellers Worse Than I Thought

With eBay, I guess it depends on what you're selling.

As mentioned, maybe more common items need the additional exposure to stand-out. In the case of rare collectibles I find the buyers who are...

Re: Ebay Rips Off Sellers Worse Than I Thought

Just curious if the "Advertising Fee" is an optional extra to increase exposure? If so, could the item have just as easily sold for $948.82 without that option?

Re: Here's a new one- DVD CASE rot!

Speaking of cheap plastics disintegrating, I had a pair of Bauer brand in-line skates with the plastic boots from the late 1990s which I put on about a year ago and they literally shattered when I...
