Re: What movie just doesn't click for you, even though it should?

The one thing that bothered me about the Godfather III was maybe the fact it took place in the late-1970s, which makes perfect sense chronologically given this sequel came out 19 years after the...

Re: What movie just doesn't click for you, even though it should?

In general I find hyper-kinetic rapid-fire delivery wears out its welcome for me a'la Robin Williams, Jim Carrey, Chris Tucker etc. These three actors are much more funny when they have a director...

Re: What's your thoughts on AI generated actors?

I can see AI being used seamlessly for the next "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" remake.

Re: What's your thoughts on AI generated actors?

Here's a futuristic masterstroke of genius; A movie theatre takes a percentage tally of every ethnic group sitting in the audience. Then utilizing on-the-fly CGI technology, it creates actors of...

Re: The "Perfect" movie ...what's yours?

You're right, this was unusual for the heavily armed muscle-bound action hero to have to out-wit and out-smart the bad guy instead of just the simplistic "blow'd 'em up real good!" ending.

Re: The "Perfect" movie ...what's yours?

I've always been on the fence with Quentin Tarantino in Pulp Fiction. If I saw the movie not knowing who Quentin Tarantino was, would his presence still seem awkward?

What other actor at the time...

Re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - We're number 2, but we try harder

I guess you could argue we spent at least that much time roaming up-and-down the aisles of Blockbuster Video.

Re: The survival and revival of video stores and physical media

The only justification of 4:3 full screen would be if the film (or TV show) was originally shown in that aspect ratio or you might want to watch the film in open matte which provides extra, if...

Re: Best Buy to furlough 51,000 hourly employees

The quickly evolving "available digitally" concept just doesn't leave much reason for people to go stores for cheaper software-type products. Since physical movies on disc were phased-out, what...

Re: Best Buy to furlough 51,000 hourly employees

The DVD-R discs have always been a cheap and more reliable method of storing data. A 32GB Sandisk USB stick is available at Best Buy right now for $14.49 (or $.452 per GB). A typical DVD-R...

Re: 10 year anniversary of 4K format launch

It's interesting to see the 4K UHD Blu-ray players never really came-down much in price compared to Blu-ray and DVD player prices.

On the Best Buy Canada website today, here's the cheapest version...

Re: Best Buy to furlough 51,000 hourly employees

I think there was a lot of industry pressure to drop physical media as it undermined the image that they were on the cutting edge of what's new. The recent renovations to Best Buy are quite nice,...

Re: Blu-ray and DVD sales - We're number 2, but we try harder

Just wait until the advertisers start having a greater influence on the content shown (a'la network TV) and we're back to where we started with "Edited For Television" versions of your favorite movie.

Re: How do tariffs affect ordering movies from other countries?

Just speculating but it may have had to do with the item being sent via UPS Courier who often charge a flat-rate brokerage fee of, say, $30 + whatever the tariff is. If the item was sent via Canada...

Re: Mickey Rourke hasn't really done a whole lot with his comeback.

Not related to Mickey Rourke (I don't know his personal situation) but I have sometimes wondered if this is the mindset of many ambitious high-achievers where making any alternate fallback plan is...

Re: How do tariffs affect ordering movies from other countries?

Yes and no. The example of "buy three and get one free" is simply an old advertising tactic of offering 25% off much like "No Tax!!" which really means 12% off - or whatever the sales tax rate is.

Re: How do tariffs affect ordering movies from other countries?

I have to wonder how much of our collective runaway retail inflation is at least partially tied to the free shipping model? It's nice to sit back and watch all of the goods arrive on your doorstep...

Re: How do tariffs affect ordering movies from other countries?

The seller may have pre-paid the tariffs before the package left Australia. That's the shrewd concept where any country exporting to the US must incur the extra expense of collecting the tariffs in...

Re: Multi TV set up?

I've seen this done at a few sports bars and restaurants where they get four 75" HDTVs, set them up in a "square" and achieve a 150" single-screen. It works well enough in that environment but I...
