Re: Star Trek: Picard (Paramount+) -- News, rumors, etc.

At least Goyer has some great genre scripts under his belt. Batman Begins, Dark Knight, Blade, Blade 2, Dark City, Man of Steel. Goldsman doesn't have a thing at that level.

Re: Star Trek: Picard (Paramount+) -- News, rumors, etc.

At this point I might prefer Ken Jeong

Re: Star Trek: Picard (Paramount+) -- News, rumors, etc.

Imagine Brett Ratner directing a mismatched-ethnic-buddy comedy from an Akiva Goldsman screenplay, starring Ken Jeong and Millie Bobby Brown.

Re: Star Trek: Picard (Paramount+) -- News, rumors, etc.

Maybe he's a better showrunner than a writer/plotter  then again if Titans is anything to go by...

Also, some people are just so much better suited for television than movies. Danny Cannon,...

Re: Star Trek: Picard (Paramount+) -- News, rumors, etc.

He DOES? Are these people insane?

Goldsman got lucky with one Oscar but his entire career always has been a paradigm of mediocrity, and that's putting it as nicely as possible.

Now out of...

Re: Eric Carmen dead at 74

Art != Artist

As much as you can call Make Me Lose Control art.

You scratch hard enough, you're going to find something irredeemably awful about anyone. Except Curtis "Booger" Armstrong.

Re: The Holdovers (2023, D: Payne) S: Giamatti

Absolutely loved Dolemite. Didn't even realize she was in that movie. Now I have to go back and watch it.

Re: The Holdovers (2023, D: Payne) S: Giamatti

Great movie. Fantastic piece of filmmaking. Other than the conceit of creating a movie that looked and felt straight out of 1971, there were no big gimmicks to be found here. No big melodramatic...

I don't know why but I always thought he was a Brit for some reason.

"Go All The Way" is a power pop classic but I gotta tell yas, being 16 and getting to second base with a cute redhead you got...

re: Dune: Messiah -- news, rumors, etc. DUN3 "Dishes are Dune, man."

Move the Dune series to MAX (not just the Bene Gesserit show). The first season can be Dune Messiah since it will pretty much be the only season with the film cast anyhow (except Momoa). Then you can...

Re: Vote for your favorite Best Picture nominee (2024 Oscars)

I'm determined to watch every nominee before the Oscars.

Current ranking:

The Zone of Interest
Poor Things
Oppenheimer
American Fiction

I have to finish watching Maestro, but I wasn't...

Re: Did Anyone Ask for a Remake of "Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead"?

To be fair, no one asked for the original either. All nostalgia aside, it's a serious POS.

Re: The Zone of Interest (2023, W/D: Jonathan Glazer) S: Hüller, Friedel

Magnificent. And awful. Best movie of 2023 (that I've seen thus far). Glazer made a masterpiece.

Re: American Fiction (2023, D: Cord Jefferson) S: Jeffrey Wright

Agreed with Jason Bovberg up there. Solid 7 out of 10, satire was spot-on but the family drama elements were hit-and-miss.

Also: Sterling K. Brown was very good in his role, but it was HARDLY...

"For Want of a Nail", indeed.

Re: Bob Marley: One Love (2024, D: Reinaldo Marcus Green) S: Kingsley Ben-Adir, Lashana Lynch

Looks like utterly sanitized mythmaking instead of an actual biographical history.

Without getting too deep into this and yes, name-dropping, but I grew up in Miami in the 1980s, and I casually...

Re: The end of the DCEU (2013-2023) -- What were your favorite movies?

I'm sorry but that cover is almost everything awful about 90s comics. Just needs big guns n pouches.

Re: Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow

The Crown at least gave you two seasons. And the adult Martell woman looked younger than the girl.

Re: Gary Graham, Alien Nation, Star Trek Voyager & Enterprise, dead at 73

RIP to a good actor. I enjoyed watching him in his various projects.

Alien Nation was such a great show. Fox did itself and the show's fans a HUGE disservice canceling it after only one season....

Re: Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow

Michael Keaton was a very well known actor by the time he was cast as Batman, having headlined multiple films and starred in several hit movies (and a few flops), such as:

Night Shift
Mr. Mom
