Xbox dvd playback question

Not sure if this belongs here, but I will ask anyway. I read that when you first install the DVD playback kit, the region of the first dvd you play is locked in as the only region your xbox will play...

Huh?

I have an apex 660 and the HKL disc of Jackie Chan's Police Story, which is anamorphic, and there are black bars on my NTSC tv. the image is stretched a little, but not distracting at all.

Cost isn't everything. I'm not worried about paying a few dollars more if I'm getting what I want quickly. Plus if I get a bad disc, I don't have to ship it all the way back to England and wait again...
