No, you're right - it doesn't support 4GB SDHC cards, and 4GB non-SDHC are pretty rare and require a workaround for the Wii to use.

I've got an older Toshiba 65", and the screen is completely filled, without any gaps on the sides. Maybe your TV aspect ratio is off? Did you tell the Wii that you have a 16x9 display?
