It's Greek to Me

I knew someone here had read the book.

I can only remember a "little physics," hence my name. If I were to write, cursively, a lower case "a" it would look exactly like the alpha in the diagram,...

The Road to Reality

My sisters have been buying me pop science books and the math is accelerating. This last book, The Road to Reality, by Roger Penrose, is a thousand page tome with a fair amount of mathematical...

Toshiba's 57HLX82 LCoS display

I've searched for all of the combinations here already. Has anyone seen the 57hlx82 or any other LCoS displays? Thanks.

Are you talking about the Fellowship of the Rings?

I didn't see the theatrical presentation of the Fellowship of the Rings, so I would probably prefer the lengthier version. I did a price search and found a Special Edition, Director's Cut, and a...

for what it's worth

The local small guy has some a couple video rooms, both with a variety of displays, and the screens without scan lines became instant winners. I found myself getting very close to a big black RPTV...

heads up

It's just a warning. The model XV-FA900BK shares the same manual and probably the same circuits with the same disclaimer.

Are compatibility disclaimers common?

I don't read new owner's manuals very often, so I don't know if it is common or just JVC as usual.

who's drooling?

The more redundancy the better.

I already have my television set up as well as can be expected, which means that I found it necessary to back off on brightness, picture, color and sharpness,...

antiques

I inherited a comfortable 30 year old queen size sofa/sleeper. The right side is worn out so we moved the tv a bit and are wearing out the left side. The sleeper part works fine and when unfolded it...

JVC's XV-FA902SL disclaimer

The full page ad in Sound&Vision said "Just Very Cool," saving "Sexy" for the bottom. The sexiest thing about it is the ad itself.

It's another crappie remote. JVC's machines become more complex...

it should have looked fabulous

Again, it's in the top 5% of junk transfers. Maybe the producers wanted to hide some wrinkles.

McCartney's "back in the u.s." dvd is video appalling

Pardon the pun. This dvd features video at its worst.

hardened weapons grade micro poly cord mercury treated military issue

I use 12 gauge wire and I wrap the ends really really snug, to keep the oxygen out. Damn oxygen, always wanting to merge with whatever comes over the fence.

I don't believe they are working on commisions...

I don't believe they are working on commisions these days, but they all have implants that give them nasty shocks when a manager thinks their warranty quotas are below par.

should I boil it?

These old dead remotes that I have spoken of are for old JVC svhs VCRs, as far back as the 6700 models. I have one remote that works fine and another one shaped in the approximate size of a VHS tape...

Ben and Jerry's remote dip

I fell asleep last night and two remotes were in the path of a pint of melting chocolate fudge brownie ice cream. They were totally covered with the stuff.

Way back when, a friend of mine had left...

Imax's dvd transfers can be all fog, but this title has great video. It comes with DD and dts and a catalog of titles that might be of interest to people that are off the beaten path.

I used an...

Still Crazy

Some of you folks have been all over and under the "anamorphic buzz" before and can remember the confusion that six-pack felt when he/she had a choice of a Disney "Widescreen" title or a "16x9...

Huh? Did I phrase it poorly?

No, I wasn't disagreeing with you, just expanding a bit. "Enhanced for Widescreen" would have been a better choice. Di$ney, for one, got away with tacking "Widescreen" onto all of the substandard...
