I dont have LOTR EE ... am I missing out
I was one of the ones who bought the first release on DVD, so i really cant justify to my wife why I need the EE. Am I really missing out on anything great? I just keep reading about how everyone loves it and its so much better.
Advice would be appriciated.

It's well worth the cost. I can't see myself ever watching the regular cut of the movie now that I have the extended version. It makes the story and movie much much much better.

Just sell your current copy of the regular edition or give it to a friend. The EE is worth it. The movie is enhanced by the extra scenes and the you will spend hours and hours with the special features.

Yes, you are.
Superior version of the film, DTS and more extras than you'll have time to explore... LOTR EE is one of the best DVDs to date. Maybe THE best.

the theatrical cut is fine. I borrowed the EE, and was quite underwhelmed by the added scenes and having to get up and chance discs. I almost never watch extras, but thats just me.
3 hours of LOTR is quite enough for one sitting.

In my view you are not missing much. I saw all the extras and the extended scenes and have to say that they DO NOT ADD UP much to the plot...contrary to what everyone else says.
I am happy with the Theatrical Cut!!

Yeah I think its a fantastic addition to anyone's collection. I think thats its by far the best dvd in my collection in every category. I'm just hoping they do the same for Two Towers. I heard that Peter Jackson was gonna do an R rated version of the film but I don't know whether its true or not.

If you liked the movie enough to buy the first release, I'd have to say that yes, you're missing out. The EE is simply one of (if not the) best DVD editions ever.
The expanded cut of the film, the discs and discs of bonus material. It's all good... and well worth the extra $$. And, as an added treat, there is zero overlap between the edition you have and the new edition. The film and supplements are both different, so you can keep both and have a mega 6-disc set. (Or 7-disc set, if you get the EE box that comes with the National Geographic DVD!
)

I curious, for those that didn't like the EE have you read the book? It was criminal that they cut out those scenes.

I was in the same situation you are in. I just bought the EE 2 weeks ago(I still own the regular 2 disc edition, unsure if I'm giving it away or keeping it).
The EE is definitly much better. If you are a big fan of LOTR, than buy it. If you thought the movie was okay or somewhat good, than it may be too much money to upgrade.
I haven't even begun watching all the supplemental material(as with almost every single one of my disks), but can someone tell me if the EE has the trailers on it? I know the regular version does, but unsure where it might be on the EE(possibly disc 4?).
Thanks in advance.
