My TV isn't the worst of the lot (it's only 27", but it does have component and s-video inputs). And it is stereo. But I don't have a reciever or any speakers other than the ones in my TV to run sound through.

ok i am still at school so i dont know if you can count this but whatever. i have a borrowed 19" tv that is just one step above the tv's with the circular channel changer. a microsoft computer 3 pc speaker set that were 80 with a 50$ mail in rebate, which actually sound rather decent and a hitachi 6 head vcr. and get this no dvd player! i have some dvd's ~30 but i have to watch them at my parents house or my cousins or a laptop, which i borrow from my dad or cousin.

It doesn't matter if he has the Playstation 2, that is a Goldstar and you know that name means QUALITY!
I have one of those clock/radio/TV thingies, but mine has an integrated phone and is a QUASAR model
I also bypassed the internal amp and speaker and hooked up some Krell and Wilson components to it!

This reminds me of the days when I had just moved out of my parents house at the age of 18. I moved to Pittsburgh with my 19" KTV (Kentucky Fried TV) and a couple of beanbag chairs.
A week after I got there I talked my neighbor into letting me "borrow" their cable connection. 2 weeks after that the speaker in my TV broke. I was so depressed. I went to the dollar store down the street and the closest thing to speakers they had were a pair of $1.00 headphones so I wired those babies up internally and would sit on the beanbag about 2 1/2 feet from the screen to watch my free HBO movies. It was like heaven.
Things have improved since then....

till my new 27" arrives, I've been using an ancient GE 13" tv (a friend at work gave it to me for free) for my xbox gaming and tv needs. I watch all my dvds on a 15" (13.9 viewable) monitor that is aging rapidly -- getting more and more blurry and is insanely dark for certain dvds.
Still won't have any nice audio, but I think my current tv is mono, and my speakers with my computer are certainly smaller than what the new tv will have.

Wow, mine's actually kinda decent compared to some here, the only real weak spot in mine is the TV. It's a 25" with only coax input. I'm using an RF modulator to feed in the DVD, LD and VCR.
The bright spot is the Sony DAV S300 combination DVD/CD/tuner/receiver system with five cube speakers and subwoofer. Dolby Digital and DTS, and extra inputs for VCR and games.
LD is Pioneer CLD S201, only single sided and 2channel sound.
VCR is a fairly recent Sony HiFi.
I've got about 200 DVDs and 33 LDs.

This thread is great! A friend of mine was just given an apex player and asked me to hook it up. She had a 20 year old 27" mono console tv with just a coax connection and two vcr's already connected to it that were just about the same age as the tv. Hooked up the apex to the vcr (didn't even know you could do that) and got the hell out of there!

How could you possibly come to that conclusion? His setup doesn't even qualify to be a "home theatre setup." Jeff, you have been disqualified.
So have the rest of you.

I gotta chime in with mine.
Apex 20 in tv-bought at a grocery store, with rabbit ears to get a crappy broadcast picture
Samsung DVD-611-not bad
panasonic LX-h680 Ld player and a Nakamichi Demod, so I can say at least I own some high end audio equip;-)
Sherwood RD-7106-its ok, at least I have DD and DTS now
klh center and bookshelfs which are serving currently as my left and right channels
and to top it off...
a pair of speakers that my cousin bought from a guy crusing around parking lots here in Phoenix. He appears every once and a while, despite being featured on one of those investigative news segments damaging the speakers. My woofer on the left speaker doesnt work anymore, so now I stack books on them in the spare bedroom.
not the worst one here, but close. If we were to talk car stereo, I could have one with a setup I had a few years back. Had a nice Pioneer deck(dont remember the model, the first cassette with detacheble face), one old 70's psedo hi-fi speaker my dad got at rat shack or some place back in the day to listen to his eagles records and whatnot, and it was all wired to the dome light because my electrical system in my 85 Renault was shot. I had to drive everywhere with my dome light on to listen to music.
I think thats up there with the Bose guy!

My main system is moderately ok (total crap compared to what most people here have, but fine for me), but when I'm relegated to the 2nd system (about a fourth of the time, probably) I have a 20" almost 13 year old non-stereo Sears TV hooked up to an Apex DVD player ($50). I used to have it hooked up to a 13" TV, so that's actually an upgrade.
I do pick and choose what I watch on it, though, I have to admit.

I inherited a comfortable 30 year old queen size sofa/sleeper. The right side is worn out so we moved the tv a bit and are wearing out the left side. The sleeper part works fine and when unfolded it just clears the tv. It's great for slouching.
I'm using a Sansui 881 receiver ('70s) to drive a couple of 12" Pyle Driver bass speakers ('80s) and a 15" speaker of questionable heritage in an old Ampeg b-15n speaker cabinet ('60s). The Sansui has lost almost all of its little lights but it still functions, with a minor 60 cycle hum.
I raided the van for a pair of Realistic Solo-4 speakers for that sound that only Radio Shack gear has. I think the speakers inside are oval, but I would have to clear a path.
None of the timbres match, of course, but it's a small room with a 10' ceiling and I'm just using the stuff on hand.
I did harvest the speakers and grill from an old Motorola am/fm radio and phonograph combined in a single piece of furniture. Mom didn't like wires and Dad didn't like Mom and he blew out a midrange speaker or two just to show he could.
I'll add the Motorola speakers and horns as time permits.
