Re: Metric

I love Metric. Found out about them a few months ago on Rdio. I'll have to check out the Fantasies album - they don't have that one on Rdio, so this is the first I even heard about it. I see it has free streaming from Amazon with Prime.

Re: Metric

This is their most popularly known song from Fantasies, but I personally love the whole album.

Re: Metric

Another cool thing I find about the band is that they have a shitload of official music videos covering their entire catalog. In this day and age - the music video isn't as popular as it used to be, and even bands with bigger budgets don't put them out as much anymore - Metric continues to crank them out consistently, though.

Re: Metric

There's a great Fantasies outtake called "Black Sheep" that was used on the Scott Pilgrim soundtrack, too. In the movie, the song is performed by Brie Larson, who based her stage appearance in the film on Emily Haines, but the soundtrack uses the original song.

Re: Metric

^ Yeah, there's a posted video from their live performance at Comic Con for it. I think it's the same version:

Re: Metric

I like listening to them, but it's hard for me to watch their videos/performances, as their singer looks exactly like an ex-girlfriend that I'm still in love with, who left me for another dude...

Ha, no kidding. I wish I had an ex girlfriend who looked like Emily Haines.

Re: Metric

Okay, now that would hurt. Sorry about that, I hated having that feeling when I went through that with an ex.

If you were such a great boyfriend then why did she leave you? You probably got complacent and turned into a doormat or a bore and she lost respect for you and left. It happens.

And she looked Emily Haines? You should have worked your hardest in order to keep her. Oh well.

Okay.
Honestly, she found someone she could better manipulate. At least I didn't have to bail her out of jail after getting two DUI within one month of leaving me.

It's not about that. I've dated girls as good looking and better before and since. After a while, that stops meaning much.

Sorry, didn't mean to turn this into a relationship thread...

Re: Metric

My introduction to Metric was "Gimme Sympathy". It was a freebie song from Amazon & I kind of liked it, but I really liked "Gold Guns Girls". I ended up getting "Fantasies" and "Synthetica" when it came out. Not a band I go all out crazy for, but they have some songs I really like.

I do like "Black Sheep" a lot. Both versions (Metric & movie version)

I like this. I'm going to have to look more of their stuff up.

Re: Metric

Since others are recommending stuff, I strongly suggest y'all check out the obvious "related" choices of Stars and specifically Amy Millan's solo albums.

But also, just because I started listening to this band yesterday, and I absolutely adore this girl's voice, check out del bel, also from Toronto.

and my favourite song... (I don't think there's a video, so I'll try a Spotify embed...)

Re: Metric

I spun their Old Underground album yesterday and it was really good! My favorite track was Dead Disco.

I can't believe it's been almost 12 years since that album came out. Dead Disco and Combat Baby still get lots of radio play here.

Here, too. Both of those tracks get played more than any of their newer stuff.

Re: Metric

It'll be neat to compare Grow Up and Blow Away with Synthetica, which is their current sound. I'm waiting for those two LP's to arrive.

I think I've listened to the track Synthetica about a dozen times tonight. Love that song.

New single released today. Not blown away, but it's solid.

I like it, and I think it's one of those songs I will like even more after some listens.

Thanks for posting that Osiris

Re: Metric

Not sure if this warrants a separate thread, but Metric announced their new album, Pagans in Vegas, coming September 18. Also released another new song, Cascades.
