It would have been great if they released it on UHD. I’ll pick up the blu of this.

Wouldn't surprise me if there's a UHD stream/download at some point. A Metric rep replied in the PledgeMusic comments that the Blu-ray release will be more widely available after this campaign, so something on VOD or one of the streaming services will presumably follow as well. That same rep said that there will be no other audio sales, though, so no CD, no iTunes/downloads/etc. I guess they really want to push the visual aspect. (Their live DVD from a while back only had an EP for digital download rather than the entire show.)

Because I'm weird, I'd have loved to see a CD/UHD BD package: somethin' for the car and somethin' for the home theater. I get that UHD BD is way too niche for something like this, but since concerts usually flood new formats, it's a little odd to me to see so few live shows on these shiny new discs.

I really like the band, but they lose alot in their live performances. Definitely a band that benefits from studio layering.

Why So Blu?

I love the band but that BD at $25 on Pledge Music is a bit too high and I'm sure it will include tax and shipping. I will wait until it's released on Amazon. Now if they take it back and say that this is an exclusive then I'll bite the bullet.

I wonder/hope they can have this mixed in Atmos as well. And I don’t know of any UHD live music discs. I’d love to pick some up. Atmos has so very few as it is.

There's also a Sammi Cheng concert disc only available overseas. AFAIK, that's it.

Yeah, the downloads are available in 2160p and 1080p, and even if you pledged for the Blu-ray, you can still get the 4K download. Won't be as high quality as a UHD BD would be, but that still could be pretty nice.

No word on audio yet, though.

I’ll drop money for that combo, mostly for the 4K copy. I really hope at the very least it’s 5.1.

That shouldn't be a problem. IIRC, their DVD from a little over a decade ago was 5.1.

They posted shots of the final packaging to PledgeMusic. For audio, it just says "Surround", so it's still anyone's guess right now.

Intriguingly, it's in scope. I guess I never got around to watching the trailer and didn't realize that till now.

Yeah, I doubt they’ll have it in Atmos. At any rate, I’ll fins out since I did order the blu/4K download. They’re actually showing this at a Drafthouse on April 4th in town. Looks like some cities will get a showing of it.

What does 4K download mean? What is the mechanism to play it on a 4K set?

I got the link last week to download both blu and 4K versions. I'm downloading it now. There's 4 versions, so to speak:

• Dreams So Real - 1080p Download with Stereo, 8.17 GB
• Dreams So Real - 1080p Download with Surround Sound, 11.5 GB
• Dreams So Real - 4k Download with Surround Sound, 24.4 GB
• Dreams So Real - 4k Download with Stereo Sound, 24.3GB

I'd like to think the stereo surround will be Atmos, but I'm guessing standard 5.1, with the stereo being only 2.0.

Oh, neat. When I first got the email, the only download was 1080p/stereo. I didn't know that they added the other versions.

Kinda nuts that there's a multi-gig difference in 1080p between stereo and surround, but the two 4K versions are pretty much the same size. Hopefully the video encode didn't take a hit in the process.

Metric will be the opening act on the Smashing Pumpkins tour. Emily posted it on her instagram earlier.

There haven't been any updates on Dreams So Real's PledgeMusic page, but they posted a photo of some signed Blu-ray sleeves on the movie's Facebook page with a "shipping soon!" note, so maybe we'll finally have these in our hands before too much longer.

I haven't watched the download in full just because I'd rather see it on Blu-ray first, and also because I'm too lazy to find a thumb drive and figure out how to watch it on my TV.
