Re: Metric
I know it's only two songs, but my expectations are lowering for the new album. I loved the mix between electronic and rock that Fantasies and Synthetica had. These songs have no rock elements, pretty much all electronic.

They've already gone totally away from how far off they started. Have you never heard Grow Up And Blow Away?

That being said, I will still be getting the new album.

Just spun the new album and it's terrific. Granted, if you're a fan of the indie rock stuff this has more electronica in there. Since I love electronica it's all good for me. I was surprised, in hindsight, that they played a ton of the new material at the Imagine Dragons show I saw them at 2 months ago. Of course, those outside of a few songs, had less electronica embedded to the live tracks, but still.

Re: Metric
I might be the odd man out who didn't care for Synthetica. Waiting for Pagans in Vegas to show up in the mail, but from the reviews floating around, I'm not as optimistic as I'd like.
The next album is coming really soon -- they basically recorded a double album but decided to release them separately -- and there are no electronic elements at all. Wondering if that might veer too far towards the other end of the spectrum.

On first listen, I was pretty disappointed in it, but it is starting to grow on me now.

I think you're right, this is synthy to the point of being inaccessible almost. And I love me some straight up synth pop and lots of electronica, so it's not like the genre isn't to my taste.

Re: Metric
I think the live versions of these songs have that added "oomph" of guitars during their live shows as opposed to the mix. Jimmy Shaw is a fantastic guitar player and really shred on some of the more synth tracks live, which surprised me as to the mix of this album. Granted, I'm not complaining. Fuck, i want to see them live again!

I feel pretty much the same. The album has grown on me some, but overall, I still consider it a disappointment. It's not that I think the music is bad, per se, it's more that I just don't care as much for it in comparison to all their previous work. In that regard, this one ranks at the very bottom for me.

Re: Metric
It's one of my favorite albums of the year. "For Kicks" is the most fun I've had listening to a single song all year. It's so infectiously addicting.
This record is clearly influenced by Depeche Mode and New Order. Growing up in the 80's, it appeals to me.
