Another vote for U-Turn here. I customized it with all the top specs, and preamp, and it was around $500. I'm extremely satisfied.

The Plus comes with an acrylic platter and Ortofon Red cartridge. The only additional add-on you need is the cue lever. Get a Schiit Mani as a preamp and you're set for under $500.

Re: The VINYL Thread!
I bought my first pieces of Vinyl yesterday. I was at an Antique store with my wife and was going through the LPs when lo and behold I found this:

It's my favorite Neil Young album and one of the rarest on LP since it was out of print since the early 80s. The sleeve was a little damaged but the record itself is excellent and for $6 bucks too. Listening to the title track with that analog sound was cool.
I also picked up Neil's Decade for $15 bucks. I might become a Vinyl convert if I keep finding cool stuff like this.

I got a B&N email the other day and they now carry the Orbit players. The white one I saw said it was on sale for $309.

Re: The VINYL Thread!
That's the same price as on U-Turn's website, but there may be coupons you could use to get it cheaper at B&N. And that is the model you should get if you want to start getting into vinyl but don't want to spend $1K or more just on the TT.

Just put in a preorder over at Amazon for the Deadpool soundtrack - they have a version that is SIGNED by Junkie XL - great score and the auto is a pretty sweet bonus (enough to make me import it from the US for $5 more than it'd sell here). http://www.amazon.com/Deadpool-Origi...deadpool+vinyl

There's currently a kickstarter for a Night of the Comet vinyl soundtrack reissue. For those interested in such things.

Just got a shipping confirmation from WaxWork Records on the "Krampus" score. It's about fucking time. Only 3 months late! I'm sure it's going to look and sound awesome though.

Re: The VINYL Thread!
There are quite a few RSD albums I want.
Top of the list: Phish Hoist

Any of these would be great.
Deerhoof - Offend Maggie
Mac Demarco - Another One Demos
Jay Farrar - Sepastopol
Feelies - Uncovered
Son Volt - Live At The Bottom Line
Regina Spektor - Soviet Kitsch
Matthew Sweet - Goodfriend (Another Take On "Girlfriend")

I rescued this from 18 years of abandoned storage today -- a 1983 Linn Sondek LP12:

This baby needs some refurbishment; I'm bringing it up to a Sondek guru up in Port St. Lucie next weekend, but man oh man is this thing a beauty. I'm almost entirely sure that cartridge hasn't been changed since 1983 either, but we'll see. Very excited by this (free!) find

Re: The VINYL Thread!
So, I'm finally upgrading from this (
, I know.)

Even though my wife likes it (I bought it for her years ago as a way to play records, despite owning an older, much nicer, Panasonic turntable that eventually died on me.)
I'm getting a Uturn Orbit w/ built-in preamp delivered this week:

Hooking it up to two KEF iQ10's I wasn't using elsewhere:

Powered by this budget Monoprice Hybrid Amp:

I've been playing with the amp and speakers all weekend, mostly to break-in the tubes before my turntable arrives. The amp is a "hybrid" so it only uses the tubes for the preamp phase (whatever that means... I'm still learning and I've only just begun), so the true audiophiles can scoff at it if they want; I don't mind. I swapped out the Chinese tubes with some NOS American-made ones, and I'm starting to go down this rabbit hole of actually hearing the differences between tubes now.
One thing that surprised me is that the Chinese tubes warmed up really fast; I could play audio within seconds. But the American tubes are taking much longer to warm up. Like, 10-15 minutes before I get full volume from them, and even then, they're not nearly as loud as the Chinese ones are. I hear it takes weeks to fully break them in.

I just have a Pro-ject turntable plugged into a Cambridge Audio phono stage plugged into my home theater receiver (Denon).
I have 2000 albums but I'm not an audiophile.

Just scored me a copy of that Taxi Driver vinyl - there's actually two versions of it. There's that try-color version and then they have a "yellow cab version."
